That thing is toast. Plan on suddenly losing all brake pressure. You can’t really hammer aluminum back and forth it gets crumbly and if it’s striped down in there you’re only grabbing threads at the weak opening. I could maybe tap it deeper but I don’t know if I could cut away enough to get a sealing surface. If you try to put that much aluminum weld on it, it will probably warp badly if it doesn’t melt in half. Designed obsolescence.

If anyone works cheaper in the karting industry let me know I’ve got some work for them. Why don’t you post a pic.

You guys don’t get it. You’re comparing this to leaving the air filter off on a dirt road or dumping an ounce of valve grinding compound in the case. Have you ever worked with 1200 or finer grit? I’m talking about an amount that would fit on the tip of a small screw driver for one track session. That’s almost parody compared to the slurry of metal particles floating around in oil first time out.

I’ve watched innovation slowly die in karting but I never thought people would vehemently oppose it. I guess the big innovation is coming up with an engine that you can’t innovate. Guess I won’t tell you how I get Devcon liquid steel on the cam lobes and how many laps it will last. Peace.

P.S. btw Bernie there’s been allot of guys that had nothing to say when they found out my BS ideas weren’t nothing but the truth. That’s one reason you have sealed engines and allot of rules to give people without ideas a chance.

That’s an example of something that works but with a decreased safety margin.

It depends on how much metal you have to work with. MCP has a caliper with brass inserts that hold the bleed screw see link. I would get one of those and install it in your caliper if there’s enough metal to do it. I believe you need a tap for 1/8th pipe thread.

Or you could drill and tap for the next bolt size and use a bolt with a copper washer. You have to get it square.

Or you can mail it to me.

TJ, I can tune at the shop because I always have too much rear weight, vertical CG, rear grip and snap over steer so I set every up to counter that problem. Big guys don’t belong in karts but it’s too much fun to stop.

How does raising or lowering the front ride height effect weight jacking? I can see where it effects weight balance by tilting the drivers weight.

The only thing you could do is go up in size and make a new plug. 12mm?

Do NOT use an O-ring under the plug. It is not designed for an O-ring and may not hold the pressure. You can’t tighten the plug down properly with an O-ring and it could vibrate loose. Anyone who is doing this is living on borrowed time.

But the manual says the opposite. I guess I’ll find out sooner or later, I just hate wrenching on stuff at the track.

Did you say lowering the spindle makes the tire press harder into the track? Do you mean raising the front gives you more caster which transfers more weight? Margay says transferring more weight gives you more rear grip = less front grip. Must be more than one thing in play.

Just got the bearings and they are very nice. An inner rubber seal with an outer steel shield as advertised.

The book http://www.amazon.com/Racing-Yamaha-Kt100-S-Engine-Genibrel/dp/093683451X is what got me started but, you can’t just rebuild the engine with simple hand tools. You need so much stuff that you’ll be in the rebuilding business by the time you’re done. I made allot of the tools myself but I have a machine shop. A 13 year old should have no problem doing a full blueprint if he knows basic shop safety and has experience working on lawn mowers and such but there is a big investment in tooling at the start.

I’ve seen karts set up with hand controls and stuff to keep legs in place for paraplegics but cerebral palsey I don’t know, a spasm at the wrong moment could be life threatening.

That little nub is a soft steel rivet that needs to be pulled out. If you just grind it off there’s a remote chance the rest of it could drop into the bearing. If you have a sharp pair of vise grips or a milling vise you can grab it and pull it out.

The size is molded into the seat. It’s on the inside at the bottom between the legs.

The trouble with rebuilding it for sale is finding someone that believes you did it. All the new parts are on the inside.

It’s $65 a day now? Unbelievable. What happened to the $35 for 4 hours that Scott got us? That was a reasonable deal.

I don’t know why everyone has to get the kart 3 foot off the ground. So you can work on it standing up? I’m thinking of a big skate board with a handle and a short stool to sit on while I work on it. I’ve moved karts around with a little red wagon before.

John here is the bracket you want for the RR caliper, no need to go to a 50mm axle and it’s cheaper.
