Walt GiffordParticipant
Throw that brake system as far into the woods as you can.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantI had a Rotax once, so glad I sold it. Everything on that engine cost $500 or more. When I bought it it was legal. In the course of a year or so they came out with required changes/upgrades to the cylinder, the balance gears, the clutch, the airbox, the ignition system and some other things I can’t recall right now. It had almost zero resale value, finally found a parking lot racer and let it go for cheap. I’ve been racing kart for over 40 years, been through allot of stuff, now I run a $60 clone motor I got from Harbor Freight and loving it.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantHave you seen the class structure at Englishtown? There are options other than Tag$ or Rotax$. Pick up a good used kart with a KT100 for about $1500 and have a blast. Tires last forever on a 4 hole can kart.

Walt GiffordParticipantHi Wade, Do yourself a big favor and call Grandproducts and ask for Jimmy Schultz. (215) 244-1940
Tell him Walt Gifford sent you.

P.S. Unless you have a burning desire to run in the Rotax max challenge stay well away from rotax for so many reasons.
Walt GiffordParticipant
If anything I am setup a little on the RICH side.
I think you need to set up a little more on the rich side.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantWhatever happened to that 4 hole can that had the muffler extension on it?
Walt GiffordParticipantJust use some cheap brake cleaner from Walmart.
Walt GiffordParticipantThe trick to push starting is to always keep your weight on your feet and never on your hands. If you lean into it too much you’ll either get dropped on your face or tangled up and dragged.
They make a 5th wheel that goes behind your seat with a lever.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantYou need to get a gear ratio about 8.5 to 1 which is a 10th on the engine and a 85 on the axle. Chain should be the 219 size. The clutch should be an engine mounted clutch but the size and type would depend on the exhaust system you have. Although an old Horstman DXL 4 spring 3 disk will work on anything. Is it a small 4 hole can or a big long pipe?
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantOh I see, they changed the rule to accommodate what’s being manufactured.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipant
Walt have you ever had a motor not received by the customer?
Never had that happen but after reading this I’ll pay more attention to how much insurance I put on things. I don’t really send engines through the mail anyway but, I’m not in it for the money anymore.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantWhat is the wheel base? If it was a sit up enduro with a wheel base of 43″ all you need is the right clutch and gearing and a 50-55″ rear track. If it’s a lay down kart it’s not worth the conversion, you will have very little success on a sprint track.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantDO NOT take another engine as payment. Know your time limits for filing action. Good luck.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantCastrol Super Clean will melt castor residue no problem. Burned on castor needs to be hot tanked.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantSeat has to be in front of the back edge of the rear axle and 14″ from the ground min.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantI’ve never had a problem with DID DHA gold on gold chain.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantYou’re trading a high CG for too much rear weight. If only karts were a little bigger. Any 4 stroker laydown seat I ever tried stabbed me right in the middle of the back because the top curls in.
If you’re tall like me stay away from anything made by Lightening Light, their XL seat is a M at best. Thought they sent the wrong one but nope and they burned me both ways on shipping plus a restocking fee.
What some people call XL ain’t XL so get some measurements if you’re buying mail order (if you can find a karting vendor that can use a ruler).
Best you can hope for is to get your shoulders the same level as your knees. I’m using a Deep Seat 15.5EB tilted back a bit and it fits great Let me know if you find out something I don’t know.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantWow, he stopped in the worst possible spot. Why would you do something to put your actions under review?
Walt GiffordParticipantMargay’s a great kart. Animal drives off the left so check the position of the rear cross bar and 3rd bearing to make sure you’ve got chain clearance.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantIf it turns over too freely it might have a stuck ring so no ah compressiononi. If it’s definitely getting a nice blue spark you could try priming the spark plug hole with a cap full of fuel and see if it fires. If it fires and quits you might have a fuel feed problem.

There you go young fella, you want item #10 the red pads for an iron rotor or the green pads if you have an aluminum ceramic rotor.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantI’m 6’1″ and I drive a Coyote wide track LE3 but any kart is about the same. You might have to get an extended steering hub and tilt your steering shaft forward so you can get your seat forward and still have a little clearance between your legs and the steering wheel.
If karts were just 6″ longer and 3″ wider they would fit everybody.

Walt GiffordParticipantSomeone told me that nut is not meant to take a starter gun but you can use it in a pinch.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantNow that the contacts have no plating on them they will corrode sooner.
