Walt GiffordParticipant
No longer looking, thanks.
Walt GiffordParticipantThat’s the stuff! Thanks
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantWithout scales I’d guess the seat would want to be 1-1/2″ left of center at least.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantHave you tried 8 psi and mag wheels, do you have beadlocks?
Walt GiffordParticipantThat’s 1/2″ wide by 1/16th thick.
Walt GiffordParticipantWhat I do is keep reducing psi until the side walls feel mushy in the turns then come up a couple psi. Might not be the fastest but it’s the coolest.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantTry some toe in.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantBaruch, The bearings mentioned above are all 19mm wide. I have an 06 Margay with the wider cassettes. You might need 40x80x21 which is the extra wide bearing UC208-40. You also want rubber seals so you never have to clean and grease them. I just bought a set of 3 from the place at the link below and they are great quality and priced right. The little knub can be pulled out with pliers.
Measure the width of your cassettes before you buy.
Gif
P.S. if you stumble upon riekens racing selling bearings know this: They DO NOT take returns on any bearing under any conditions not even new in the unopened box. Also, the 40mm axle bearings I got from them you can see a big gap right through to the ball bearings. First time on the track they will start grinding dirt. Don’t get burned.
Walt GiffordParticipantNever been to that track but if it’s about a 1/2 mile I’d try the 85 first then put on an 83. If it’s 1/4 mile I’d try an 87. If you feel it stop pullin’ 3/4 down the longest straight it’s about right.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantIf the starter nut is still on how do you know the key is missing?
Walt GiffordParticipantI’ve bought allot of old KT100’s from various places and the main thing is carry a spare ignition coil with you.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantAll motor mount bolts.
Walt GiffordParticipantThe only reason you should go to a 50mm is if you can’t get a soft enough axle in 40mm. At the sticky euro tracks they were breaking/bending 40mm axles that were too soft so they went to 50mm. I’m 6’1″ 200 Lbs. and I run a medium 40mm on an old (06) Margay.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantWhat do you do if your hair is too short to ponytail and too long to hide in the helmet? A little might sneak out. Check the Margay pic on kartgirls.com
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantRequesting pics.
Walt GiffordParticipantThanks for the advise. Ribtec XLT. I’ve got the flat on the seat tilting up in the front and my nuts on the gas tank. I’m trying to get Margay to send me the parts to weld on an extended front porch. That’s something I haven’t tried yet. More total weight uhg. Although, I knew a guy who was at max weight but put more weight on the front. kart cornered better and got lower lap times with more weight.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantWhat about 6 inches, not talking lay down karts. That’s still got to be a good 2 foot from the axle.
Walt GiffordParticipantThanks TJ that’s the exact thing I’m doing already. I guess the trick is to get good at catching it before you over rotate. If only karts were a little bigger like 45″ wheel base 60″ rear track.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantIf it’s super hard tires then move towards a rain set up.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantPut a ruler on the bottom of the frame and measure up to the rear axle to make sure it’s straight with the frame.
Check the washers in the front spindle yokes to make sure they are the same front axle height left and right.
Do you have allot of clag (rubber) build up on the tires? scrape it off with a heat gun and putty knife.
Get a thin tape measure or a string and measure around the outside diameter of the tires left and right when they’re at the same psi. Should be within 1/8″.
Margay makes 3 different almuinum caster pills make sure you have 4 neutral pills, if not make sure they match in type and adjustment on left and right sides.
Put the kart on a flat surface, the steering wheel should be fairly centered.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantYou’ve got space for axle collars you just haven’t found it yet. Grub screws are for keeping the axle from spinning in the bearing and should only be snug with blue loctite.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantWiseco flex hone, says it’s safe for 2 strokes but you will need sand paper to put in the cross hatch. What does it do if it won’t even put in a cross hatch?
If you want to fit pistons to cylinders you need something like an Ammco 3950 small cylinder hone.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantFlex hone is the fastest way to ruin a 2 stroke cylinder I know of.
Port timing is usually measured in piston travel from TDC. I would get a WKA rule book and use those specs.
Ignition timing is mild, you could go to .085 no problem. Might help it run cooler.
I would jack up the head clearance to .035″ for a trouble free practice engine.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantIt’s a straight thread 10mm x ?. Probably 1.5mm, I’d have to check.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantIDK I couldn’t find it. I’ve got the hard copy that came with the kart. Might be able to get Margay to email it.
