Walt GiffordParticipantWalt GiffordParticipantYou get advantage from alky by raising the compression and advancing the ignition timing.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantYou have 2 master cylinders on the kart now? Take one off and get a new brake rod to the other one.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantI don’t understand do you have a kart you want set up suggestions on or, do you want suggestions on which type of kart to buy?
If you have a large track with big turns and a slow kart it will be easier to be consistent than a short track with allot of turns and a powerful kart.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantIt depends on where your probe is. Just find the max egt then back off the needles depending on your budget but remember aluminum melts at 1300F.

Walt GiffordParticipantWe ran Sunoco 100 in Yamaha pipe all the time no problem.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantIf your tool fits the threads you can use it but, MCP has a reservoir so you don’t need a brake bleeding tool.
Without the tool: fill reservoir, press pedal, open bleed screw until pedal bottoms, close bleed screw, release pedal, repeat until all air is removed.
Remember air bubbles go up so, make the bleed screw the highest point in the system.
Make darn sure you know what brake fluid your system takes. Most MCP take DOT5 but I don’t know what they’ve got on the Margay.
Also put a new roll pin and cotter that holds the lever in the master cylinder if you want to live.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantThe one that’s bored out the most.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantYou just take the bowl screw off and take it out with a screw driver. The emulsion tube will fall out too. I made a shorty screw driver so I can do it on the kart. A 38 is a good jet to start with.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantI just use enamel spray can from Walmart.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantI’ve seen clutches put together wrong where the drive hub isn’t lined up with the lever support.
Going up and down a street is very hard on a clutch. 4 trips will burn the clutch almost from a standing start 8 times, not what it was designed for.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantRear width: 45.5-55 inches
LOL, that’s like a 10″ difference, anywhere in there would be good?
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantYou bleed it by removing the little screw between the brake line and the return spring. There’s one on each side of the rear caliper. For the front caliper you’re on your own until I get a better pic but it might be that big screw right on top.
Then you need a way to force or gravity feed brake fluid into the master cylinders. An old mustard bottle full of DOT3 works.
The linkage to the master cylinder is a bias adjuster, it’s going to be different from one side to the other and it will flop all over the place with all that air in the system.
Please make sure the bolts holding the calipers to the frame are high tensile strength and not stove bolts and why is there an elbow coming off the rear master cylinder and not a straight fitting?
Brakes look like early righetti ridolfi?

Walt GiffordParticipantOffer him $1800 for the Birel.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantThat’s a carburetion problem. You don’t see it too often but it happens in a certain series of turns/straights with some set ups. The track empties out the crank case and you open the throttle too fast and no fuel. Usually a long straight tight turn short straight another turn and when you get on it nothing.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantHave you checked your blood pressure lately?
Walt GiffordParticipantYou tune it like any other kart just use the CRG guide.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantWhat’s your budget? The thing about older karts is, parts for the brake system are hard or impossible to get so you might need to buy a new system. I would run the Yamaha first few times out in practice.
Gif
Walt GiffordParticipantBill you could be into an LO206 or clone kart used for under $1500 easy.
Walt GiffordParticipantWhen my steering feels heavy it means the back end is stuck. More caster frees up the rear. Yes, less caster will make it steer easier but you also want it to turn. Going to the top holes will give you more leverage and you’ll have to crank the wheel more for the same jacking effect.
Walt GiffordParticipantLOL successful contact, I think you’re part of the problem.
Walt GiffordParticipantHow wide is your rotor?
Walt GiffordParticipantYou can take the key out and clock the normal flywheel. Don’t forget to turn your piston around.
