We just had a race at Calspeed in Fontana Ca. last Saturday, I wish you were there, you would have had a blast
Next race is March 4th. Come on down and I’ll set up a Tony Kart or a Ricciardo Birel/ART for you, for a small fee. That way you’ll know what you like, we’ll wrench and coach for you. You just arrive and drive. Here’s the schedule

Are you ready to do a race? Or still learning how to drive?
PM me please, I will help you stop this madness, Lol.
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantElbow pads, a good set of karting gloves that cover your wrists ( try to get a good name brand) They are expensive for a reason, you’ll love them
A lot of people like the Freem, but Alpine, Sparco and other good names are real good.
You may not need chest protector, but you’ll be safer if you can get one.
You can consider knee padding but may be too bulky at the fuel tank area.
Just survive and don’t crash. Lol

FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantYes, and yes to both of your questions.
You do not want to get into a shifter kart yet, till you become really good in about 2 seasons at least.
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantfor now just walk inside any cycle gear store, try and buy what you like and fits good, but you may wanna upgrade in the future for an actual kart rated top quality helmet like Arai Much better quality but it’s several hundred dollars.
But there’s an old saying, I forgot how it goes? $2 dollar head, $2 dollar helmet?
All kidding aside, Lol. There are a few good inexpensive helmets you can use for karting and they are approved and rated for safety. And you can find them at Cycle gear anywhere from $100 to $600 bucks. Good luck to you.

FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantDude! Just buy any Fairly new LO206 kart and you’ll be happy with it, drive it for a season and re sell it if you want something better. You’ll be just fine. Just head out to the track and do a bunch of seat time, and practice, That’s all you really need for now, just to get your foot in the door. We all rotate to better quality karts/chassis gradually and eventually.
Just do it, you’ll love it, but just go out there and get it done!
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantYes
If it’s equipped with Yamaha KT100, HPV, KPV, Some Aime and may be others with adjustable high and low.
The beauty about the LO206 you want there is no tuning of the carb or clutch. You just concentrate in your driving.
X30 you don’t tune either, or Shifter Karts.

Thank you for your input, very good info.
I was just curious if anything else would work, like full synthetic Mobil 1 oil, but now I see the reason why the manufacturer only recommends Amsoil, and the reason why.
Thank you for your help, buddy.
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantWilliam.
Did you ever decide what kart and engine package you’re gonna go with? Or not yet?
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantWow! I thought everybody was nice enough to answer your question, and shared why and how it could affect the equipment, I honestly didn’t see anybody showing off. I thought they, we all try to help here, and along the way we do share stories.
I thought their input was pretty good and spot on.
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantWilliam, you are correct.
Your instructor wants you to utilize your body weight to the desired area you want the kart to bite, for your personal advantage, this doesn’t mean you have to slide side to side, just squeeze your body into a corner of the seat. Tilting your head and neck will also help.
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantWilliam, I’m a certified technician. Is this corolla equipped with automatic transmission, or manual ( stick shift )
That little car is capable of doing that every now and then, the only issue is that if you do it very very often that little transmission will give out, even if the trailer is a small one, I still wouldn’t recommend it for too long.
This may be an ok option for the time being, but eventually you will need a bigger pick up truck, van, or a combination of truck/van and enclosed trailer. My 2 cents. FastFreddy.
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantMan! I wish my kart would hook up like that! I have the same kart, but I’m 6.1″ and 210 lbs and my legs are shorter than my upper body, I’ve tried everything, seat position, high/low, closer to the axle, further from the axle, more tilted, etc, Higher air pressure on tires, you name it.
Rob looks really confy on that seat, and his arms are holding the steering wheel real nicely, looking really good all the way around. Is he closer to the front? or just my view? Please throw me a bone, so I can adjust mine better.
The older I get, the slower I am. At this point I’m just gonna change my name from FastFreddy to Slow old fart Freddy. Lol
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantGood!
Hope everything goes well.
I am not affiliated with him in any way, I just happened to see his ad. Good luck to you.
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantThere’s a guy selling one here, at the forum, I’m sure it can be shipped for less than $150 to $200 bucks. Just a thought
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantAlmost any top name chassis will do, but I would buy OTK (Tony Kart)
as they are easier to tune, and extremely competitive right out of the box, but I wouldn’t buy a Rotax engine package, almost all clubs I know are getting away from that engine. Most big events and classes do run X30 Tag.
Something to consider is your body size, how tall and heavy you are, before you buy a kart you may regret. A little more info about yourself would help us narrow it down.
Welcome to the sport! You’ll have a blast!
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantThat makes sense.
Check all the welds under the seat, cross bars, front and rear cross member, also check the ties welded between the frame rails at the engine side. You’d be surprised, even a small hairline fracture will do that.
May also be a good idea to put it on the table after you inspect for cracks.
FREDDY SANDOVALParticipantRob, not questioning your experience or lack of driving skills on other types of engine packages. But there is a difference with the 4 cycle thing, and it does take a while to get caught up with the fast guys, to the point it makes you question the chassis, driver, engine, carb, etc.
Did you just start 4 cycles?
Were you already fast with this kart/engine package at some point, and just recently started noticing you are slower now?
Please don’t be offended, but this will help narrow it down.
I’m still trying to figure it out myself, as this driving style is a bit more sensitive, and requires to minimize turning effort.
If you were already fast running with the front guys, and recently you’re losing speed, then yes, you may have an issue there, and you can ignore my questions. Hope this helps.
