Fill it with distilled water all the way up to the cap. Water additives are banded my many associates, so check first before using one.

Brett,
a spare exhauset matte for when you notice a drop off in engine performance. If it’s a new exhaust, you’ll have to drill out the rivets to remove the stinger and then replace them with nuts and bolts. I’d have a spare set of tie-rods and king pins plus a steering shaft. Maybe a spare nose if the group your son is racing in is very aggressive. You shouldn’t need a spare set of brake pads if the ones in the kart are good, but keep an eye on the for wear. And maybe a couple of extra nut and bolt for the floor pan.

Larry,
Mix 4 to 6 ounces of 2-cycle oil per gallon of gas. Check with the organizations you’ll will be racing with to see if they have a specific oil and ratio to use. We’ve run Motol and RecClean with no issues.

Hope you’re doing this with a chain on so you can slow the engine down with the brake. Try loosening the clamp holding the carb to the rubber boot and pull the carb. Check the boot for cracks. While the carb is off, find out the size of the main jet.
There are two adjustment screws on the carb, the throttle stop screw and the air screw. Turn them both of them gently in until they stop. Open the throttle stop screw (the top one) a half turn. Open the air screw (next to the fuel line) two turns.
Since you said your were no to karting; is there oil in the gear case and how many onces of oil are you mixing with a gallon of gas? And is there any chance you have a tach to hook up?
One last thought for now, is there a spring above the slid in the carb?

From the CES Pre-Tech Form for the 2015 Blackhawk Event, a helmet must meet one of these qualification:
M2005, SA2005, K98, K2005 or SFI 24.1, 31.1A, 31.2A, 31.1/2005, 41.1/2005, 41.2a or FIA 8860-2004 or Snell-FIA CMS/CMR2007 or ECE-22.05

It would appear that a 2005 rated helmet is legal in CES, but I would contact Dave to be sure.

Search the EKN Classis site and you’ll find a ton of posts. But I couldn’t find a clear winner between Tri-Flow and grease. So it’s mostly up to you. I’d go with Ric’s suggestion. If you’re using brake cleaner, remove the bearings from the cart to save the paint. My suggestion is to replace the bearings when they feel and sound bad. I probably threw out some good bearings over the years, but there was a peace of mind.

It would help you if you add addition information, such as, class, motor and your size. The same chassis would get different reviews depending if it had a Briggs, a Yamaha or a TaG on it. Or a bigger driver using a 32mm chassis with a shifter engine would be might say a chassis is fine, where as a lighter dirver with a Yamaha would not be pleased.

you might want to tip the kart on is side slightly when you oil the clutch. That’s good news that you’re a rookie. Ask a couple of other 2-cycle guys at the track about oiling and chain tension. I’ve never seen a rookie denied help.

You still might need a bendix as Tim mentioned. You could try to determin if it fails at one particular point on the flywheel, but doubt if you’ll find anything.

The bushing deterioration rate seems high in light of it being properly maintained. Two questions and please, do not take offense at the first one. Is the can of Tri-Flow being shaken befor use and are you using a third bearing support? As for causes, could your gears be out of alignment or the chain too tight.

you want a water temp sensor that screws into the cylinder head and an exhaust gas temperature sensor.
You are going to want to monitor the water so that is 140-150. The EGT to monitor if the exhaust starts to cool before the end of the longest straight. That temp will be somewhere around 1300.
For jetting you’ll should have some sort to jetting software and watch your plug and exhaust color.
CHT temp sensors are for air cooled engines.

IMO as the non-racing put crew, if the WKA is going to error; it needs to be on the side of safety. We were lucky enough to switch from sprint without having to put on front brakes. But it wasn’t long into RR that we had them put on. Maybe only once did the second brake system save my son. The cost was worth it.

I’d have no trouble with experienced r-racers with a single brake system provided that an adequate pre-race inspection was done. A mandatory mechanical log book on the brakes would be good, but don’t see that ever happening. Anyone ever had their rotor pulled and inspected in pre-tech? Probably no one. I’ve pulled rotors and found worn pins or bolts to the carrier or egg-shaped holes in the rotor. And that’s with front brakes.

As for newbies in r-racing, mandatory front brakes. It too easy for an aggressive new comer with no front brakes to chase an experienced driver with fronts way too deep into a corner. You know who’s going to lose in that scenario. Where an experienced RR-driver might be able to save his butt in a case a brake failure, a newbie with a single braking system is not going to have the experience save him/herself and the others around them.

Battery buying note. I’d stay away from buying a battery from a battery store or any low cost battery in general. They won’t stand up to use on a track. Have a couple that didn’t last a day. Go to Comet or Russell or other large kart part distributer. The more expensive battery will cost you less in the long run.
