My vote is go back to breadbox pods on the sides, allow low-density foam filler to prevent gravel/mud incursion, and use the skinny rear bumper and pedal-width front bumper with nassau panels allowed.

While we’re at it, lets get the total weight back down to around 330 and use sticky tires again so the chassis work like they were designed to and don’t blow our backs out putting them on stands…

Oh, and run NorDams for the premiere class….

Oooops, sorry — I was in dream land for a while there. But I still stand by skinny bumpers and breadboxes.

Scott — appreciate a PM for a prince on a KT-100, can be bare (no carby or pipe)… I’m looking for cheap price point instead of max performance…non-fresh but run-able ok. thanks. ~Ted

LOL @ Riley — no worries — they were “free” From the specs I read, basically 30hp…. What about throwing a DD2 cylinder on there, or a Polini 154 or whatever it is?

Joey, I appreciate your response, but we must be talking about two different engines — mine are reeds?

The engines I have seem to be the same as featured on the 1988 Aprilia Tuareg.

Are you coming north for any races this year? I’m between CMP, MMX, and VIR and if you were able to bring it along for a race, I’d buy it..

Seems to be a 2000. Also, if you need YZ info, Noah Stark in Pittsburgh, of Noah Stark Engine Works (NSEW) can probably help you out. Good luck… ~Ted

^^x2. you saved me the trouble of typing essentially the same thing…

Paul’s observations were made on high-hp dirt oval winged sprint cars, which may not be analogous to sprint kart racing.

I’d go see what the fast sprint kart racers are doing if I wanted to be a fast sprint kart racer…

in reply to: Cordless Impacts for wheel nuts & tightening tq? #27119

Nearly every dirt oval karter I’ve ever seen uses a battery impact only for tightening and loosening their tires, on 1/4″ and occasionally 5/16″ studs.

I use a Ryobi Li-Ion 18v cordless impact / hex drive with 3/8″ adapter, for both my oval and sprint karts and have never had an issue. I also use NON-SERRATED flange nuts on my aluminum rims to prevent gouging, etc.

Never had an issue with wheel loss except for the one tony mag wheel I forgot to hand tighten before I had the cordless, and ruined on initial use….doh!

TaG as it was originally conceived — a leisure / fun class for old farts and casual enthusiasts, with no national points or series other than informal get-togethers IS STILL a great idea.

IMO, what TaG has morphed into is an impossible situation (re: equality) that lines the pockets of manufacturers while leaving the importers and racers at their whim. Even Rotax doesn’t have the rules stability it used to, and spares are another tier higher in expense…

I still haven’t heard any explanation on the rationale for switching from the former importer alignments — just ethereal interviews about the “potential for the future.” I don’t wish the new guys ill, but it’s hard to trust orgs that aren’t direct, open, and forthcoming.

On a side note, it’d be cool if they reintroduced the greyhound logo.

I have a NEW set of Dunlop wets on American 5″ douglas rims… let me know if you’re interested. I’d take $175 shipped. You don’t mention widths, but I think mine are 4.5’s and 6s but I’ll check tomorrow.

Thanks, Dennis…. I’m going to look through my spares to see if the clutch cover assembly is in there…. It’s going to be tough for me to tell what the spares for the 2 “free” 125’s I got are and what’s for the 257. I will try to post pics here.

It’d be easier on the gearbox if I can find a way to reinstall the clutch! :) Thanks for the tips…. keep ’em coming. ~Ted
