Sorry to say we aren’t going to make it to MPH after all. Some things have come up so none of the Balduses will be there.

VALENTINO’S PIZZA on Saturday night, probably in that covered area where we were last year.

It will be BYOB (Bring your own beverage) this year.

Just looking back over this past weekend, and feeling grateful for being a part of KART MARRS and all of the great folks that pitched in to make this event a success.

First of all, the racers. What a great bunch! And each and every one of you are important because w/o you, the rest of us couldn’t race @ Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. Special thanks to the Brown bunch and all of the rest of the Texans that come and support us.

Taylor Everhart, for getting the scales from Garnett to Hallett, and Melvin Nelson for offering to take them from Hallett to MPH. Ted Hite, Bryan Norman and Chris Ragan for pitching in with pre-tech. Roger Hatcher, post-tech. And of course, Maysha, Brooke and Shelby for their invaluable services.

    Thanks all.

And isn’t it great news that the City of Garnett has allocated funds to a partial repaving of the park roads and they should be done prior to the KART MARRS’ August 13 & 14 event.  I’m sure Bryan will keep us informed about the progress of the repaving.

Thanks Bryan, Helen, Mike, Amber and everyone that was involved. See you in August if not before.

And the good news is:  Mike got the countdown clock running!  See you all there.

I hear the Boy Scouts will have the concession stand for us during the days, and are fixin’ chicken fajitas Saturday night.  Can’t wait. I think I will make a pitcher of margaritas to drink before we go up there.

I was confused why there was a video for Dominion, but it finally makes sense.

Wow, looks like a fun track.

FYI, I just ran some numbers.  I don’t have a dog in the hunt, but I was curious, and it had come up in a couple of conversations I was having. The only way I can come up w/ #s is to count qualifiers from mylaps. I assume there might be reasons why the actual final #s might be a little different.

Man Cup had 511 entries in 20 classes.

Dirt had 652 in 40 classes.

Both of those sound great to me.  Is that fewer than they had on the dirt last year?

Roadrace had around the same as last year, (maybe 5 more or less, either way, from what I heard.) although I didn’t try to make a count from race-monitor, and nobody knows when (or if) they will ever have that info on mylaps. (me being facetious).

KART MARRS has been very fortunate to have “our gal” Maysha doing all of the scoring for our events.  The first few years, she didn’t realize how important the mylaps were to us and sometimes she didn’t get them posted quite as soon as some of us would have liked (me), but now she does it really quickly.  However, and I have thought about this lately, she may not always be there, so I hope whoever might be scoring is trained to not consider the job done until results are sent to mylaps.

Race-monitor is really not possible for our events.  Some of our tracks barely have cellphone service.  It would be nice to have, but then people expect it and don’t understand when they don’t have it.

This has kind of gotten off the original topic and if there’s anything more posted on scoring other than NCM, how CES does it, who’s running for the WKA Board, etc. IMO another thread should be started.

UPDATE on mylaps:  Not happening.  Jeremy talked to the WKA office and “Everything was lost when they had computer problems!”

OK, I have NEWS re: mylaps for this event.  WKA says the scoring computer is in the repair shop.  They will let me know when they get it all taken care of.

I have spent untold time trying to locate the mylaps for this event to no avail.  I hope that if I am just missing them, or if they ever get posted, someone will post a link to them here.

    I’m done looking!

Another KART/MARRS’ event @ Lake Afton is in the books.

Thanks again to Kelly and the Read Family, and everyone else that had a hand in making it a great success.

Talk about weather; it could not have been any better!

While numbers were a little down, there was still really great racing.

Hope to see everyone at NCM Oct. 23-25 when KART/MARRS is included with the WKA VEGA/TS RACING ROAD RACING SERIES’ event.  (Apple Pie.)

I understand the Boy Scouts will be serving spaghetti Saturday night @ the clubhouse.  If you don’t have plans, their food is always tasty and reasonable.  I know that’s where we will be eating.

First of all for the Baldus Racing Team, I just want to give a huge THANKS to Ron and Alice Anderegg for their years of dedication on behalf of the Garnett Kart Club hosting the Garnett kart races.  I have tried to remember how many years, and the best I can come up with is 40 +.  Ron swears this one was his last.  They deserve a break.

And also to Greg Gwin.  If you don’t know who that is he’s one of those behind the scene guys that make Garnett happen, he’s the guy “sitting” at the entrance to the chicane with the yellow flag; the one making the decision if you passed too late and needed to be black-flagged.  That guy! Thanks Greg.

And of course thanks to all of the corner workers and the people that keep putting the hay back every time we knock it out of the way, and the other tireless workers (Amber, this includes you too).

The good news:  Both Garnett races this year were better than last year’s.  Baby steps.  Let’s all keep working on that.

And also, TaG Cadet Jace Park is doing fine.  That’s how it is when you are a tough kid.  His ankle is probably already healing.

Nearly forgot:  Can you believe the gorgeous weather?  For August 23rd in KS, it was unbelievable.  Ron said he would have made a fortune if he had been selling it!

We’re all looking forward to next year @ Garnett.  Will keep you posted.

Another KART Enduro National Championships is history.  Thanks so much to the Read Family, Roger, Jackie, anyone else that helped out w/ the event and awards’ ceremony and feed.  And thanks especially to girl-everything, Maysha (and her girls), for always having a pleasant attitude regardless of how things are going from their perspective.

Saw a lot of people having a really good time and really enjoying the KART/MARRS’ road racing experience.

And thank the Lord for not torching us with what might have been “normal” Hallett, OK  July/August’ temperatures, especially on Sunday.  That respite was a pleasant surprise, even to the meteorologists.

BUMMER that Scott, Bennie, and Joshua Schrimpf’s trailer took an unexpected trip about 15 miles from the track and came to an abrupt stop.  Trailer is probably done for, karts are probably OK but Bennie’s scooter is probably not fixable.  Not a good way to end the weekend.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the person starting the kart.  I’ve seen people with long hair hanging over the chain while starting someone’s engine and know that to be a hazard too.

I know of at least two people that have gotten their hair caught in the axle of a laydown before the balaclava rule came in.  It wasn’t pretty.

Unfortunately I believe the orgs have gotten kind of complacent about it since there hasn’t been an accident lately.

Thanks to all that worked so hard to put this event on.  With the large turnout, some last minute changes had to be made, but it was all handled perfectly.

    I see mylaps are posted.

And now on to Motorsports Park Hastings.  See you there.

Thanks again to the Garnett Kart Club and Ron Anderegg (and crew) for giving us another terrific weekend of racing @ Lake Garnett.

Entry numbers weren’t great but thanks to everyone’s efforts all races were run on dry tracks.  And with the weather in the area, that was no small accomplishment.

No red flags or even use of the ambulance.

Shifter races were once again fantastic! They sure put on a show.

And a FYI:  Because Maysha had such a difficult time dealing with the scoring loop and the moisture, times may not be 100% accurate when listed in mylaps.  She had to input much of it by hand.

    See everyone @ Hallett June 5 & 6.

Thanks to Kelly and the whole bunch that worked to put this event on.  I got a video from the Wednesday night before showing the workout of putting out the haybales, track prep, etc.  Thanks to all that helped with that too.  Boy Scouts chicken fajitas Saturday night were great.

Gosh, Mike & I are tired!  Don’t know whether it’s the work at the track, or that little puppy?  It will take a day or two to recuperate.

Ace, “Mike Baldus says” we have run CKI, Emmick and Margay w/ 4 1/2″ front wheels and 4.50 tires. If you go to a 2 1/2″ in 2″ out front wheel, you can take each wheel in 1/2″. Douglas makes that wheel, and he thinks there are others that make it also.
