We run the Animal on gas w/ spec oil (Amsoil) and pipe and 2 disc clutch. Started out w/ a spec clutch but they keep obsoleting them and parts become harder to find. We’re now running Greased Lightning, Bully and Cheetah 2 disc clutches.
Some of our racers have made pusher chassis and swear by them but there’s a difference of opinion on that.
    35 chain mandatory.
Some of our guys have spent nothing other than the initial expense of purchasing the engine but to be truly competitive in our class you must blue-print.
One fresh engine will run all year w/ regular valve maintenance.
Top speed on a long track is 85, no matter how hard you push on the throttle, and it’s down from there, but in a pack drafting it’s a blast and fast enough. All of the guys are older and wiser (?). You don’t have to go fast to have fun, but it is more fun to have someone your same speed.
At Hallett, which is pretty short and twisty w/ elevation changes, the 4 hole can Yamaha turned 1:36 and the Animals turned 1:42s and 1:43s and top speed was 77.

So what is RADIO.COM? Are you saying we will be on the radio, or there will be an announcer on the PA, or we will be able to tune a radio to that FM station and hear the announcements in our pits?

Wow! So that’s what new pavement will do! How about 198 entries. It looked like the old days. And the competition was absolutely fierce.
Thanks to all that participated, and to all that worked. Thanks to Kelly Read for making sure that everyone that wanted to be there had a place where they could race their equipment. And thanks to the Stephens Family for their huge expenditure in getting us this great racing surface.
Hope to see everyone at Lake Afton in 3 weeks (Sept. 6&7), and at the KART Enduro National Championships @ Heartland Park Topeka Oct. 3rd-5th. Our little family of KART MARRS racers will all be there.

Thanks again to Ron and Alice Anderegg and all of their “helpers” for another event @ Lake Garnett. We really appreciate your years of putting these events on and know that whether the turn-out was big or small, as this one was, you have the same amount of prep time involved.

Another ’14 KART MARRS’ event is history. Thanks to all of the MT Pockets’ folks that worked on it and Maysha and daughters, Roger, and anyone that I may have forgotten. We all know and appreciate that it wouldn’t happen without you guys.
And thanks to George and Michael for the great Bacardi Bus ride. It was a blast. The really good thing may be that Kelly hollered so much that he couldn’t talk the next day.

Once again Race Monitor made it almost as good as being there. Thanks for providing that.

Wanted to remind everyone that KART MARRS is again hosting the Saturday night BBQ and Awards’ presentation @ HPT. Plan on it!

Got reports on the two guys involved in accidents. One good, one not so good. Ted Hite just got back from the gym and isn’t using the crutches, so that’s the good. Matt Gorman has a broken rib after all so he will be mending for a while but will be @ MPH as support.

Just received this message from Connie Stephens of Hallett Motor Racing Circuit: “The karts are going to love the smoooooothness. Both bikes and cars are breaking track records.”
As for Tom’s post, I’m sure if you contact Kelly Read 316-218-3645 he will make sure you have a place to race that Rotax @ Hallett.
I know I’ve heard of other folks that are talking about bringing their karts back to life for the new surface.
Can’t wait to hear the chicken! It always gives me a chuckle. If you’ve never been @ Hallett @ 7:00 a.m. you may not know of what I speak.

Sure looks to me like you have everyone covered, Kelly. Thanks for the effort I know it has taken to put the schedule together.

Gilbert, Kelly asked me to reply to your post ’cause for some reason he can not reply on ekn presently. He said to tell you that the Jr. class is any sprint chassis w/ CIK bodywork, and YES, this class will be run @ the August Hallett event.
Also, he said if you had any other questions you can call him @ 316-218-3645.

101 degrees in Wichita on May 4th. Who would have ever believed it! I told everyone to bring shorts and they needed them. “The Man” (both of them) really delivered on the weather.
Turn-out was a little lighter than we would have liked to see but until things turn around economically we may have to get used to a few fewer entries.
As usual the Read bunch, Maysha, etc. did a great job of putting on this event so the rest of us could have fun. Thanks.

Just looked at the Weather Channel (Online, can’t get a decent idea of weather on TV anymore!) and it looks like you had better bring your shorts! It sounds like it will be HOT, which will sure be a welcome change from what we here in KC have experienced lately.

    See ya all!

Just got this quote from Hallett’s website: “So here it is. The track is done. The infield is done. SURPRISE!!! It looks great everywhere. There is some backfilling needed around the edges where the dropoff is drastic. Scott has a plan for that next week but it won’t get done today.”

This is truly great news, and if Brian Wilhelm says he’s coming in August, these improvements have already done what Mike Baldus was in hopes of, which is stir some interest up again.

    See you Brian.

“Is this a full, or partial re-paving?” Brian, from what Scott told Mike, their intention was to repave everything except the straight-away area just to the west of the pits (which didn’t need it), which would be over 80%.

In following this thread I have thought this really sounded like a fun day. Wish we here @ KART MARRS could take advantage of a facility and do it.
Robert, you are too much like The Man. We don’t allow him to make statements like “Chance of precip down to 10% with a wind out of the South at 14mph.” or ever use the “r” word, but it did take a long time for him to learn that one.
But what the heck, by 2:30 everyone had probably done all the testing they really needed and what better way to continue the camaraderie of karting than under someone’s EZ UP or in their trailer bench-racing in the rain.

Brad Johnson said: “Maybe I can roust up a few Texas guys to come along.”

That would be great. I did see on another post that I can’t find right now that a group of shifters from MI were planning on putting HPT on their calendars too. Don’t know if these were Stock Hondas or what, but regardless it would sure be great to see the shifters in force.

Two words describe this past weekend.  COLD  MISERABLE  Were the ones that stayed home the smart ones.  No way!  They missed a great weekend of racing w/ friends and enemies.  That’s still better than sitting on your butts in front of a tv.

Thanks to John Rawcliff for taking on the job of Race Director for the KART MARRS’ family, and of course the MT Pockets group that did pre-tech, Roger Hatcher for post-tech, and Maysha for all that she does, and now her girls who are continuing in her tradition of doing where it needs to be done.

    See everyone @ Lake Afton May 3rd & 4th.

Such a great experience being able to follow the racing from home. Between Race Monitor and Livestream, it was very neat! As I said after tracking the Daytona roadraces, it’s almost as good as being there, and I didn’t miss watching in the rain one bit.

David, I see a discrepancy in the CHonda class from what I’ve been told.  I’m not there so I don’t know, but I was told Kristi Thompson won.  Were there later problems? In trying to compare to see where the discrepancy is you even have names listed in the pre-final that didn’t practice or qualify? I would check w/ my guys but they must all be out preparing for practice.

    Keep on kartin’. llb

And did Cliff ever get his money’s worth out of that purchase. His first year I think he made every possible lap of practice. He really loved racing. It was so neat that he won on both days @ the 2013 season-opener @ MPH.

Just a nice guy! So sorry to hear this but he had been very sick for a long time. RIP
