Bump…. Bump…..
Chris ReinhardtParticipantHere’s your chance to get one of these amazing machines for 1/2 the price…
You don’t see used machines for sale often….
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantBump, still available….
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantThe same solo national champion won with a mod Honda PI and after with a mod Honda stock ignition a few years back.
Weight advantage goes to non PI ignition…
I don’t believe anybody has won anything in karting with a KX125… I would be willing to bet cash money, a “stock” Honda would eat that KX alive no matter where you put the timing…
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantPrice Drop…… $650 OBO, need it gone…
Chris ReinhardtParticipantFigured it out…. Thanks for all the help… :)
Chris ReinhardtParticipantOakland Valley, believe it or not was really bad at one point with the previous people that operated it, and that’s way up state!!!!
I ran bikes at Bridge Hampton, that’s the worse I ever saw… They had sound checks at tech, 50% red line with a sound meter, sound police around the track and you would get black flagged if you were too loud, fined even!!!! We used all kinds of spray cans and elbows on the stingers to get them quiet… On the grid, you heard “sound cops turn 10” so you knew where to roll off the throttle….
It’s one of those things, if you don’t play by the noise rules, you might loose the track…
Good Luck….
Chris ReinhardtParticipantIt’s been a while since I had to run an airbox…. From my recollection, there were no 4 hole boxes that were CIK homologated, either 3 holes of 23mm, or 2 holes of 29mm.
In the first post it sounded like Mr Davies gave you an option of plugging one of the holes? Maybe you should have duct taped one of the holes shut to see if that made the difference?
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantAviation fuel is another option….
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantGary, no offense taken… You’ve been karting for 3 years, I’ve been building these motors for 30 years!!!!
Read your PM…
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantThank you Mike, glad that’s settled once and for all!!!
Now if somebody can just tell us how measure the difference between a soft and hard axle, we’ll be all set!!!! :)
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantYou’ll find out quickly, you will have to tear it down, and you will most likely replace the jug and crank at least plus the main bearings, gaskets and seals…. You’ll be very quickly north of $500 in parts, and that’s if the cases are any good, the clutch basket, inner hub, and clutches aren’t wasted…
I love when people ask for advice and don’t take it… :)
Good Luck….
Chris ReinhardtParticipantBuilding a good Mod Honda is a science as McMahon has said… It’s lots of things and they all have to work together…
You can’t “bore” a nikasil cylinder without replating it, and it’s not legal in any kind of karting….
Case prep was a big part of it, porting the cases and cutting and welding the kick starter hump for a straight intake would probably make the biggest change, along with a good pipe and a stock 99 ignition advanced all the way, run a TM 125 piston, shim the cylinder up, and tighten the head up. That’s the way Banke had us run them until he came out with the programmable ignitions, albeit with RS125 pistons…
All that and the stock Honda guys will still be faster!!!! :)
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantDon’t waste your time building a “bike” motor, either buy a new kit or buy a used complete setup…
If you do a bike motor, you’ll need a 97 or back CR125 for the 6 speed, or use a newer donor and find a 6 speed on ebay and pray no gears are bad…
A decent ignition would be a 99 and up with the same year box, then you’ll need a carb setup and fuel system, pipe and pipe mount, motor mount, and J shifter….
It’s way cheaper to buy a used motor setup for a kart and bolt it on….
Good luck….
Chris ReinhardtParticipantMike, no it’s coded to use the optical pin, probably overkill… It will work with any MyChron system that uses that same optical receiver pinout.
I did a quick test today in the parking lot, and it seems to work well.
I did a couple of mods, I shortened the leads, and it’s now powered through the MyChron unit, so no external power is required. My next mod will be adding a Lipo battery to the box, so I don’t have to carry a dozen AAA’s to track all the time….
The M3 Gold having lat G sensor and wheel speed, along with the GPS beacon, will give you almost everything the M4 will with GPS except elevation and a nifty google map…
The M3 system was such a great system, simple and had all the data I need, the only real complaint I have after all these years is the batteries. The GPS beacon was a nice to have, so I don’t have to worry about having a beacon available…
Chris ReinhardtParticipantI guess the quote button has been disabled now????
Walt, the only issue I can think of with regards to a CRG chassis, is the frame rail spacing is different. Most Italian chassis are 32×92, CRG is 32×90….
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantIt can be used on any MyChron system I believe. My intention was to come up with a solution for the still very popular MyChron 3 system.
It’s been the topic of much debate, but I don’t believe the MyChron GPS05 has any type of accelerometers in it…
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantI got a response back today, if they get 20 people to sign up, they will create a session. I think that holds true for the membership also. Reading off the website, you can get a yearly membership for as little as $49 a year!!! The bike practice fee is as much as $180, don’t quote me, but I would guess that the karts would be inline with that…
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantScott, I have no idea of either right now, they wanted to know some numbers, then we can figure it out from there.
I will be in touch with them, be my guest and contact them also if you like.
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipant
Mal, Don’t take it personal. CR just loves an argument and you just can’t win as he has way more time on his hands to browse these forums than anyone else and he is willing to engage in endless rebuttals without much regard for factual accuracy or consistency of position (anything to win an argument). It’s a pity some people are here just to get their personal satisfaction of being an online forum bully instead of having an open-minded conversation and trying to help other people. -CB
I thought we were having a great discussion???? He started out talking about GP road racing at Phillip Island, then he switch to GP MX, said the moto engines were restricted because of power valves, then switch to exhaust pipe angle restricted them, talked about front suspensions??? I just don’t agree that turning the cylinder 180* and straightening the exhaust port, gives you 10hp on a 125, that’s A LOT of HP!!!!
It is what it is, unless somebody has one to run, it’s all bench racing….. Sorry if I offended you, relax and enjoy the banter…

That’s the most sense you’ve made so far…. Thank God!!!!
CR
Chris ReinhardtParticipantMike, what you need is an Axle, not a spindle… I have a crap load of 25mm axle stubs for the Cobalt, which are very similar to the Anderson style… If that helps at all…

Notice how pipe doesn’t hang below frame/engine/shock linkage ? Why is that you think ? Just so happens that way ? I know your pro moto but seriously come on man !
I trying to figure out WTF you’re talking about!!!
“Ok . simply put. No point building the fastest 125 pipe if you mash it on the ground or with the front wheel after your first big suspension hit is there ?”
I raced motocross for 10 years, I never bent or saw anybody bend a pipe from a front wheel hitting it????? Or from “mashing it on the ground”???? Bent in a crash, dented from roost, absolutely….
And what does any of this have to do with karts Mal????
Getting back to my point, 55hp “IF” and a big “IF” were possible in a 125 kart motor, it would great on a dyno, but try and drive it on a 1/2 mile sprint track….
April 28, 2014 at 5:22 am in reply to: OMG! 55Hp KZ motor with Fuel Injection and Fly by Wire! #26411Chris ReinhardtParticipantI don’t know why this is going in this direction, but I’ll set you straight… Pun Intended….
There was a little invention back in 70’s called a High Pipe, they haven’t mashed a pipe since…..
April 27, 2014 at 3:56 am in reply to: OMG! 55Hp KZ motor with Fuel Injection and Fly by Wire! #26373Chris ReinhardtParticipant
Chris,
I don’t know how many 125/250 gp bikes front ends are sorted to max out on a big set of doubles but i’d imagine it’s of no real concern . Anyone who knows how to build half decent 125mx pipe knows the front wheel distance with forks collapsed is the biggest limiting factor.
Mal, ????????????
