So what was the point of even making an outrageous conclusion about HPD’s commitment, if they’re not the only source for motors or parts?

Chris, the title of link I posted is “2013 Honda North American Motorsports Overview”. From that context, I interpret the release as being a statement of intent and commitment for ’13 and no further than that unless expressly stated. I’m not saying the end is nigh, they’ll probably (hopefully) do the same for ’14. Just making the point that this is the closest thing I have seen to a commitment from HPD, and its stands as being one year, each year.

Dude, stop drinking your race fuel!!!  Now you’re a clairvoyant?  As in 2012, HPD will again offer support programs for competitors.  Means it’s a year by year lease?  I read it as, same program as last year… You would really need to ask them to find out what their commitment is….

And again, Jim, Tom, HPD is NOT the only source for motors and parts, it is another source for them….

Chris, someone under contract from Honda assembles 125 cc shifter engines and calls them kart engines. When parts are gone engine is gone.

The Italian’s must do it differently, but I was under the impression that EVERY assembly is made up of parts, and when the parts are gone, so are the assemblies….   I guess the Italian’s crap them out as whole engines, interesting…. :)

It’s funny, the more you argue, the less sense you make….. :)

You can argue all you want about what’s a “real” kart motor and what isn’t.  Briggs powered karts probably out number all other karts in the universe 2:1 at least, I read somewhere the that the KT100 was a generator motor at first, it is what it is.  The bottom line is competition.  I would willing to bet that if Honda gets behind the CRF250’s, and they aren’t stupid crazy to maintain,  that when the CR125’s go by by, the 4 strokes will fill their shoes quite nicely, and they sound way cool!!!!

Tom, you still with the same old BS line!!!!  Honda does make a karting engine, it’s CR125 kit motor based on the  1999 CR125 motorcycle engine.   It’s approved, sanctioned, raced by every major karting organization in the country.  You’re just pissed because it has WAAAAAYYYY more numbers than ICC ever had in this country…..  And they have been making it since 1999.

Jimbo, where on the website did say anything about  “committing to do so on a year-by-year basis”?

Breath, then reread what I wrote….

Bernie, like I explained the first time, I went out to do some testing, there happen to be a race that day, I had to enter to practice.  I ran all the practice session, and the qualifier, put it on the pole, ahead of ALL the ICC’s running that day.   I had fun, I sorted some things out, yes it wasn’t a record setting lap, but it fast enough for a pole that day, I’ll take it.

And again, if I went out there to actually race, I would had a decent set of tires instead the billion heat cycle balling balls I had, and I would adjusted on the chassis instead of working on the motor…

Sprint race=Parking lot, get it?  I road race, you probably wouldn’t catch me on anything much less than about 1.2 miles….  but you never know, I’ve done 32 flat’s on the old OVRP, look that one up….

Maybe Alex will give you some lessons? :)

Hey Bernard,  next time I have a set of fresh tires, a chassis dialed in,  and I get brain damaged enough to want to race in a parking lot again, we can talk more.

In the mean time, you should find out what Alex did, you got SMOKED!!!!  :)

HPD is making the parts for the CR125 Stock Moto “kit” available and so far has been committing to do so on a year-by-year basis.

And you would know Honda’s commitment how???

Parts come through American Honda Parts Div.  HPD has a racer program for discounts and contingency…..  Just like what Tom does with the TM’s :) :) :)

Too funny! Ding, Ding….round two! Guess we missed Jimmys post? https://new.ekartingnews.com/forums/topic/stock-honda-is-better-than-kz/ Around here it’s tough to find anything other than a stock moto – but we see them, just not real popular. I don’t believe there is an issue with “OOP” CR125′s. Yea though – I guess the 1999 cr125 could be considered out of production in 2000. From what I understand, Honda retains all dies, molds, templates and such to continue to manufacture 99′ CR125 parts, and with HRC now actively participating in larger karting events – I seriously doubt availability of anything would be an issue – not anywhere in the near future anyway. I’ve blown up allot of stuff (only caused by mechanic issues – me) and never had an issue with acquiring proper replacements.

Actually, HRC has nothing to do with any 2 strokes anymore, I think you meant HPD…

It looks like they all cross to that 506 piston, the others must be NLA…

Usually, you order a “A” piston for a “A” cylinder, but the difference very minimal, actually .0003″ smaller on the “B” according to the manual… But there’s a .0003″ spread for each, so a small “A” piston, might be the same as a large “B” piston…

You can try ordering a 13110-KZ4-A40 and see what happens, you’ll probably get a 506…

I hear over there, they put whole tomatoes in the gearbox, after the race, they drain it and make a nice sauce with it :)……

Tom Barth wrote “The other side of the pond is where all the ‘secrets’ are.”

Hold the phone, you said there weren’t any secrets?  I quote: “all you need is to bring it up to homologation spec”.  I believe you also said they all run the same……

Why would they put a fill and a drain plug on a transmission that doesn’t require oil?  Why would they ship them with ATF inside, and why would you specify that they require ATF?  I guess maybe if there were a factory service manual, all this wouldn’t be such a mystery…..  Or as Robert wrote “Manuel”, that’s the guy back in Italy that has all this information….

OK, let it rip Tom, I have my boots on……

Robert, I agree with you, if Kenny said it, I would believe it, for a couple of reasons.  For starters the man had some gray matter, and most importantly, the information would have been FIRST HAND.  Ever seen a gear that came out of a gearbox with no oil in it?  It’s not pretty….

Considering the person that posted it, lashed out to somebody else about posting hearsay, then did exactly the same thing, doesn’t really bode well…

As far as information in a manual, if you are a decent engine builder, that’s a really good place to start with regards to how far to want to set your tolerances.  Some of the best engine builders I’ve ever met, were machinists.  They measure everything, and know what to do with + or – tolerances.  There’s nothing stopping a person from measuring everything in a motor and coming up with your own set of tolerances,  if you don’t mind breaking some eggs to make an omelet….  and Italian eggs aren’t cheap…….

Karting is very safe as is. Full leathers would be the only addition you could make that would help and we would actually be going back to standard of years ago. Problem is the sport is already so expensive that no average individual could afford to buy real leathers now days. The option is open to anyone at any time though. Heavy and hot leather is great in a crash but not drafting at Hallet in July. ;-) Other than what the driver has on this discussion is basically done due to the fact that all sprint kart chassis changes, safety mods and rules come from Europe and filter across. We got nothing to do with it. I agree with Greg on this one, shifter karting is pretty darn safe even in a wreck. Anyone here ever gone over the high side on a crotch rocket? To me that looks like a nightmare yet they keep gathering runners.

    Cough, cough…..

But I agree, I came from bike racing, and when I think about going back, all my scares start to itch!!!!

I was just about done with MX when the vintage craze hit in the early 90’s.  When the demand started with parts for the old Elsinores, 73/74 vintage, Honda responded with creating replacement parts, even the original aluminum fuel tanks!!!!  With HPD involved,, they know what’s going on, if there’s a demand, they will still make parts….

I figure about the time Honda decides to pull the plug 99 CR125 kits, 2 strokes would have been abolished from the planet,  welcome in CRF250!!!!

Good news guys! Just got an email from KZ karter in Norway. His son runs a KZ10B. They rented a engine from a well know tuner for a big race. He checked out the set up and found that he (tuner) doesn’t run any oil in gearbox!!! But I’m sure they must process gears or treat with a special lube prior to event.

    And you believed him?

And how do the bearings get lubricated?

Where’s the tolerance for all the moving parts????????  I’ll give you a hint… There ain’t none!!!  I don’t believe ANY of the KZ manufactures print that information…..  Shhhhh it’s a secret…… I guess all the little pictures are the same thing? :)

Assembly reference is not why it’s pitiful that the KZ’s don’t have a manual, although, that would be a pretty good reason on it’s own.  Again, for the 50th time, it all the specifications and clearances that are completely hearsay, that’s the issue.

Talk all the BS you want, post whatever numbers, specs, drawings, pictures, whatever, unless the factory prints something, it’s all hearsay, it’s also different depending on who you talk to.  That’s point I was making when you made a comment about somebody else posting info about a KZ, we beat it to death, I’m done….

Seals, are another concern.  I got cheap ones in the US that had steel shields, that burned up pretty quick.  The best ones I ever had were whatever Russell installed from the factory on the Anderson.   They had nice rubber seals, and seemed to last forever.

I went with a complete 40mm setup on the Cobalt chassis, sooooo much easier to source everything….

Tom, that’s awesome!!!  Like I said, to spend that kind of money on the the top of the food chain, and rely on word of mouth, or somebody’s “experience” for information is not only hearsay, it’s pretty damn pitiful.  Before I even buy a motor, I research the FACTORY documentation…  I would expect that kind of treatment from a Chinese manufacturer, but from the Italian’s, I would expect better…

Chris, Yes, stick to Honda…”way more fun”. the KZ would soil your undies. http://greenflag.net/gfk_products/tut_intro.php This way more manual than Honda offers. And it will work for most KZ’s

So Tom, you’re not the factory right?  So anything posted that’s not directly from the factory is hearsay…  Maybe it’s right, but how does somebody verify it?

Good to see somebody put something together, the factory is pitiful for not creating a service manual.  Hardly a service manual though, but better than nothing…  Now maybe I can tell people where to go!!!!

Soil my undies?  Only after I see an invoice for KZ a rebuild!!! :)

Do yourself a favor, find out the rating of all of your equipment at full power.

ie, water pump 3.0 amps, Mychron 800, mah, etc.  That will determine what size battery you need.  In the above example you have a total of 3.8 amps draw, meaning at full power a 3.8 amp battery would last one hour.  I would use a 4 amp battery, all the races I run are about 30 minutes, that gives me another 30 minutes reserve.

Also, they make Lipo batteries that are the correct voltage rating..  Not cheap, but check out Ballistic Batteries…

Ken Shilling posted: I’ve heard the ATF is a little too thin and doesn’t have enough or the right kind of high pressure lubricants to withstand the transmission and clutch. Ken please don’t post information that is hearsay. The automatic transmission is way, way harder on oil. That’s why ATF was developed. ATF is called out for the TM Moto too and it has a wet clutch.

    <hr />

The funny thing is, everything KZ is hearsay because there isn’t a reference manual!!!! :)

ATF is above everything else, a hydraulic fluid.  It obviously has lubricating qualities, but there’s probably better choices out there, even for the TM….

BTW Honda manual says:  Change the fluid at least,  every 3 races or 7.5 hrs
