William MartinParticipant
The 5 gallon buckets for paint make pretty good storage containers for tires. Be sure to use the ones with the O-ring sealed lid. Keeping air & sunlight away from the rubber does a lot for longevity. One front & one rear tire per bucket…

William MartinParticipantDid you replace the foam with new foam? It is in there for a reason, you know. Without the foam, there is nothing to stop the fuel sloshing around in the bowl, and you may see fuel coming out the vents under cornering g’s or bumps on the track.
William MartinParticipantSounds like you need to find “normal” 40mm wheels, what you have sounds like some CRG thing. At any rate, the wheel registers on the center hole, not the bolt holes, so it will not be happy even if you had the adjustment range you want. Running out of true is as bad as out of balance…only maybe worse!

William MartinParticipantafter that amount of time with no usage, it would be wise to completely disassemble and clean your brake parts. Look carefully for any sign of pitting and/or corrosion of brake cylinders & pistons, both master and slave units. If you make it past this with no trouble found, replace ALL the rubber parts in the entire brake system, they will likely be hardened from lack of use, and may not seal completely. Flush the brake lines with new fluid BEFORE you put it all back together!
Good luck,

William MartinParticipantYour kart is in heat? Is that where baby karts come from? :-)
William MartinParticipantWalt, good source. Here’s another one, I have used these for a number of years…the same set!

William MartinParticipantSince you sound confident about welding Al, how about cutting end tanks off a salvage radiator & welding onto your new core. Size of scrap radiator would have to be your guide to buying the right core size…could be a little awkward. Or just bend up an Al sheet metal box for top & bottom. There is no magic shape as far as I can tell!
William MartinParticipantWhat’s that little ‘tit’ sticking out of the outer surface about? See:

That looks like it would ruin it for a self aligning housing, but I do see it is claimed to be “self-aligning”. A puzzle…

William MartinParticipantJohn,
That MBA caliper is pretty good quality. I had one of those on an MBA chassis at one time. It’s not Chinese… :-)
Bill
William MartinParticipant85mm mounting hole spacing is pretty common for euro calipers. You should have no trouble finding that settup.
William MartinParticipantFor a first ever kart, you sure jumped into the deep end of the pool! It would be a real good idea to find some experienced tuning help “before” you go out on track with this, lest you have a really expensive “oops” moment. ICC’s are wonderful to drive, but they are EXPENSIVE to fix… I don’t recommend tuning by email. Get this thing sorted out properly & have patience, it takes a while to figure these out to the point where it is fun.
William MartinParticipantNice work! A step up in quality, and nice to see some nationally recognizable names as sponsors/advertizers.
William MartinParticipantlooks like 6mm/square.
William MartinParticipantIf it gets too hot and un-solders the wire, try silver solder, or any Rohs-compliant solder for printed circuit boards, they also have higher melting temperature than the “traditional” lead-tin solders.
William MartinParticipantStart with http://www.sdka.com, go to the next race event and talk to people.
William MartinParticipantMassive difference in wages/benefits between those tow continents…
William MartinParticipantIt’s mostly about the exhaust port timing. If it’s similar to the ICC spec in degrees, it should work just fine.
William MartinParticipantThe first thing you need to do is clean the cylinder thoroughly. Wash it with warm soapy water & wipe dry, then look for scratches, etc.
William MartinParticipantNo idea! That does look lethal. Good drafting job though.
William MartinParticipantIt was pretty amusing to hear the track announcer voice-over for a different class than was showing on track…that has to get some points for “creativity” at least!
William MartinParticipantWider front tires?

December 10, 2014 at 5:44 pm in reply to: Evolution of SKUSA; IAME shifter engine in the future? #38714William MartinParticipantOh, you mean like how ICC was supposed to save us from those awful Honda hand grenade engines? :-) I like the ICC’s, have one that I run once in awhile, mostly because I can’t afford to run it “all the time”…
William MartinParticipantMost do not, the vibration on a kart could possibly kill the kill switch, and if it dies shorted out, you stop. It may be a very overstated issue, I had one installed for a while and it never hiccuped.
-bill
William MartinParticipantDon’t even think about welding it on…ok, too late for that, just don’t do it! Use springs between the hooks on the pipe & silencer, it needs to have some give, or the vibration will fatigue the metal & break something eventually.
I don’t know about the fitting, you need to measure ID & OD, or if you have the parts to measure, just try putting them together…no need to over-think this. :-)
