    Steve,
You might be a little faster, but definitely poorer. Can you share with us what you’ve tweaked, how that changed your lap times and you current setup? Make sure the chassis is straight and not cracked. Are the brakes dragging, either by themselves or your foot on the brake? And how fresh are your tires and engine? How close are you to the weight of your competitors?

    Matt,
I can’t see how the brush and spring became separated unless the brush popped out while the armature was being removed. Or do you mean that the spring and brush were both in the channel and not in contact. Double check that the brush slides freely in it holder.

The objective of using the silicon is to reduce the brush wire vibration. Use some in the pocket where the brush lead comes into the starter and at the rear of its brush holder. For the second brush, apply the silicon between the half moon post and the rear of the brush holder. Don’t use any the brush and do not inhibit the brush from contacting the armature. I used the clear auto/marine 100% silicon, clear, from a local Auto Zone.

    Gif,

You got me there. There was a company that shipped karts that was run by a father and son. The son in California and the dad in Illinois. But sure dosen’t look like a web site that would be interested in shipping a kart. Will do a little research into the matter and get back. For now, just have a LOL on me.

Don’t bend the individual float arms. Instead, bend the tap over the needle valve.

Sure, it could be the coil, but work from the cheapest solution to the most expensive. You said you resealed the pump. Did you install a new pump kit? Any kinks in the fuel line, any tie-wraps restricting the fuel flow or a clogged fuel filter? Air filter clean? Any restrictions in the fuel tank, either pulling gas out of or a venting problem. Any cracks in the pump line? Have you tiried swapping batteries with some one? That would be the #1 item to replace. Have you checked on you ground?
Not saying it wouldn’t be the coil and you if you have the opportunity to swap it out, go for it. But have a backup list of items to check if the coil doesn’t fix the problem. good luck

    michael,
know nothing about a veloce chassis, but are you sure you don’t have two master cylinders bolted together? If you do, remove one and the bias adjuster. You’ll probable need a new brake rod as well.

    Cliff,
As David said, the Notification page is not working correctly. You can clear the notifications via a pc. I’ve just proven it again on my pc getting here. I’m using IE on a Windows platform. Scroll over the blue message indicator at the top, right side of the page and a list of the notifications will appear. As you select them, the notification number will decrease. Repeat those steps until the count is zero.
From a smartphone, log into the Forum and rotate the phone to landscape mode. There will be a head and shoulder icon. You might have to scroll up to see it. Tap on the icon and you will see an item that says notifications. This is where I think the problem is that David mentioned. Tapping on notifications gets you to the page that just tells you have messages, but they are not being listed.
If you have a pc, iPad, tablet or a Mac, you’ll have to use it for the time being.

    Michael,
A Mychron4 or 4t with a Data Key plus an IR beacon to record and analyze lap times. A big step up would be an M4 with GPS. This would give you the ability to plot and compare each lap graphically. Also a Go-Pro camera might be helpful. Will this affordable? Only you know how big your wallet is. But no matter what, you’ll need a Mychron and you can read the lap times and temperatures off of the display. Keep an eye on the Classified section on the forum for a deal.

    Mike,
If you’re starting with a clean carb, cleaning it with carb cleaner will work well if done at the end of the session day. Don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner, but it probably is the best method.

Contact your area VP distributer. There might be shipments of VP fuel being delivered near you and you could have your fuel added to the shipment. Otherwise, it’s a six hour round trip for you. Or, if you can find people who also are interested in VP fuel, get together and purchase something larger than a 5 gallon pail.

    Paul,
AS far as I know, there aren’t any secrets to bleeding brakes. If there are, if someone posts them, they won’t be secrets. Make sure you have the proper type of brake fluid for your kart, i.e. Dot 3 or 4 or 5. Fill the brake bleeder tool, screw it into the master cylinder and open the valve on the tool. Put a foot long piece of clear tubing on the bleeder valve that is the highest and farthest away from the MC. Open the bleeder and drain the he fluid into a container until the air bubbles on longer appear in the clear tubing.
Close the bleeder and remove the bleeder tool and replace the cap where the bleeder was installed. Try the brake pedal. It should have a solid feeling. If not, repeat the process. Dispose the old brake fluid responsibly.
TIPS; If you have reservoirs on top of the MC, leave the caps on them. If your bleeder tool has a cap, leave it off. For front brakes, bleed the brake closest to the MC and then the farthest one.

    P.S. do what Gif says

    Dave,
The issue was with the user, not the web site. I had been clicking on the blue circle and was being take to the page that will only tell you how many notifications or messages you have. For anyone else having this problem, roll over the blue circle and a list of messages will appear. Click on the message, not the blue circle, and you will be taken to the message. The blue indicator will extinguish.

    Ron,
If you truly only sprayed the clutch with brake cleaner and didn’t touch the spring adjusters, the clutch should be fine. Did you use the recommended tools to pull the clutch and reinstall it? I’d pull the clutch again to see if anything has broken. Revving the engine on the stand is not going to give you an accurate indication of when the clutch locks up and the engine should rev way past 10k.
If it’s not the clutch, you could have an engine or carb issue, or you have too small of a gear on the axle. If you keep running down the street having smoke coming off the clutch, stop doing both. Over heating the clutch is going to shorten the life span of the friction discs, floaters and springs.

The messages and notification count can be reset to zero if you log out and back in.  Closing the web page and reopening it will not work if you checked ‘remember me’ was checked when you first logged in.

in reply to: Why Don't We Wear Leathers In Karting? #28226

A good quality fabric suit is breathable and abrasion resistant. Go back 40 years ago and there were leather suits. Not anymore. Don’t see any F1, IMSA, INDY drivers with a leather suit. You can purchase a suit that is flame resistant; just don’t look at the price.
My son tried years ago to convince a motorcycle racing suit manufacturer to come out with a version of their suit for karters with pads for shoulder, knee and elbow protection. Fell on deaf ears because the market would not be profitable.

If you can get away with brake checking the kart behind, what’s to stop the lead kart on the first lap brake checking the entire field. Sounds like a great way to win a race. Please!, no new bumper.

Use a straight piece of metal. A metal ruler works. We use the 12 inch ruler from a combo square. Place it against the rear gear and move the gear carrier until both gears are in the same plane.

As for damage, you’ve covered most of the options. What will wear out first is the rear gear and the chain. Keep the chain well oiled and watch for wear on the gears. If you believe that the gears have been misaligned for a while, start over with a new clutch gear and chain.

Tension the chain, snug the engine down slightly and rotate the axle slowly while watching the mid-point between the gears. At some point in the rotation, the chain will have its least deflection up and down. At this point you should have a plus and minus 10 mm deflection. Screw the engine stop up to the engine mounting plate and tighten down the mount. Recheck the tension. As the engine is tightened, the tension will change. Tighten slowly while watching the chain. Repeat until there is plus and minus 10 mm when the engine is tight.

    John,
A CHT, cylinder head temperature, sensor has to read the temp as it migrates through the head. That’s going to take time you don’t have to spare when the engine starts to overheat. The EGT is going to give a much faster readout. With the EGT, you’ll have the ability to detect detonation and prevent having to stick another piston in. Check the Classic EKN form for ways to tune with EGT. Check the current site for people selling their Mychrons.
The Mychrons have the ability to set two alarm lights. With the 2t, set one to a max EGT and the other to the max water temp. If you don’t have a pc now that you can take to the track, you at least have a pc at home. Race Studio software is free. It’s a way to store engine data. Just as track notes, use them to help yourself to run faster.
For casually running now, jet the carb to the fat side, so the engine is safe and you can enjoy the track.
