Matt DixonParticipant
Do NOT run pump gas
Matt DixonParticipantPut the air screw back where it was, that wont help.
If it bogges then clears out go down 1 jet on the pilot.
If it hesitates then takes off go up 1 jet on the pilot
September 13, 2016 at 11:38 am in reply to: Question about 2 stroke engine, excessive oil from pipe #71641Matt DixonParticipantWalt is on point. Sounds to rich. Make very small adjustments the high, bigger on the low.
I used to tune to the color of the header, a nice tan color. White to lean black to rich.
Matt DixonParticipantIts a lot more work when most karts run 55 inch rear and say 47 inch front track width.
Edit- Scratch that post. It makes no difference the track width. Carry on 8-)
Matt DixonParticipant+1 to what Nick said. I use a coat hanger to mock up
Matt DixonParticipantBecause the market will bear it…
Or will it, why are there so many “Why are kart counts so low?” Threads…
August 18, 2015 at 7:16 am in reply to: Chassis Tuning with Tire Temp Sensors and Accelerometer #52985Matt DixonParticipantCal tune with the stop watch not a temp gouge as Gary said.
Yes level your tire pressure hot when you come off the track. Then add or lower pressures for best results.
Matt DixonParticipantBTW this is the cheapest I have ever seen a gps sold, must mean the M5 is close to being released
https://store.windingroad.com/aim-sports-external-gps-antenna-p850.aspx
Matt DixonParticipanthmmm I stand corrected, although I have no idea how the Mychon head can have any idea where you are on the track without the GPS
Matt DixonParticipantDan the gps is always on, what you are referring to is the setting for how the Mychron knows where the S/F line is. If you have it on gps you will need to set the S/F line buy pressing a series on buttons, but you only have to do it once then its in the memory forever or you can download the trackmap from Map Manager with your datakey. The good thing about using the beacon is if you overlay data with another kart they both are in sycn.
Matt DixonParticipantYou must have gps for predictive lap times to work
Matt DixonParticipantAny good qualifier knows how to use their predictive laptimer
Matt DixonParticipantWhat engine is on the kart?
Matt DixonParticipantWhile your at it just change out the dried out fuel line.
Drop a little of your 2 stroke oil down the spark plug hole and turn over by hand a few times.
Matt DixonParticipant^^^+1 agree with Jim.
With that being said, I bought a $1000 Emmick w/helmet for my 4 yr old son, drove it, he loved it, raced it for 4 years (won a bit) and sold it for $1000.Dont get caught up in the KK game. It just gets tougher (and more expensive) as they grow. Enjoy it now learn the ropes and wait till the Cadet years to go crazy…
Karting with your kid is a great fun experience if your lucky enough to end up with a driver…
Matt DixonParticipantI will answer 1 of the many questions.
The flat bar is sort of a Multi-bar.
Flat is softest, 45* is stiffer, vertical is stiffest.
I always start with it in 45* if I need less grip I turn flat, more grip turn vertical, if I need even more I go to adding caster and even more the go to the stiffer round bars. There is no better or worse, its about keeping the kart balanced and fast with the changing track conditions.
Matt DixonParticipantI have been watching this thread because I thought it was lean.
Mr Pappas has forgot more about kart then I ever knew but this is why I was thinking that. By backing off the throttle a little arent you closing the slide? By closing the slide arent you reducing the air so in a sense “Fattening it up”? As for Bernie’s comment, isnt the needle only in the jet at the beginning of the throttle?Sorry Glen I do not mean to confuse you and I am curious to hear what it was.
Matt DixonParticipantThey are racing them out here at Sonoma, currently they run with the Heavy (405lbs) and are just as fast. They have awesome bottom end and are easy to drive, tuning doesnt even play into the equation. Honda even uses the 250 in an Indy car commercial so it makes you wonder what direction they are going…
Matt DixonParticipantI will agree with above, your fastest carb will always be your fastest. Test different ones cherish the best.
As for rebuilds, when the bottom lets go you loose the whole motor. So be careful only worrying about compression.
Matt DixonParticipant^^^I think you meant to say Lon G’s for brake/excel
Working with young kids GPS is a must. It will show you grip levels, braking points, coasting and when they get to the throttle.
RaceStudio is a very powerful program most only use less then 10% of it.
Matt DixonParticipantHaving a kid under 16 racing adults in cars, I have seen that the kids are better then most adults.
Once they figure out the loading of a sprung suspension and gearbox their years of karting show through.
They should be heavily scrutinized when applying for their comp license but after that their age should not be a factor.Matt DixonParticipantBrilliant place to park
Matt DixonParticipantWe run a 38mm in Stock Moto so 39 will be fine, save your money.
I have told you what you need to do to get it to run, we ran pilots in the 40’s when we ran a restricted Jr125.
It should not idle, the motor fuel requirements are much different then a bike.
Jets are cheap, put them in and you will be close.
New jets get clogged just as old ones do, run a filter.
Trust me go run it and report back, I gave you a fat set up but will “rip” at all rpms.
edit: 32:1 is what we always run
Matt DixonParticipantRemember the 2 jets work together at WOT.
If the 2 motors should be jetted close then try 168/55/dgj2
We ran that just fine with the AA of 2000ft
Matt DixonParticipantFatter pilot to start, those are mighty lean.
If it boggs off corner lean it out, if it hesitates then fatten the pilot. -
