Greg WrightParticipant
You want to smack it squarely and sharply, this is normal operating procedure when pulling something off of a tapered shaft.
Greg WrightParticipantDid you smack the center bolt of the puller with a steel hammer? If not you should.
Greg WrightParticipantTroy, don’t leave out the hard core group of roadracers please.
Greg WrightParticipantItaly is on the Euro and for the most part that’s the one that counts in karting. Don’t hold your breath on prices dropping.
Greg WrightParticipantNot another loss, RIP David.
Greg WrightParticipantGif, You bring a lot to this forum and it needs more posters not less. Unfortunately you were incorrect on your hub advice, Big deal, it’s not like I’ve never been wrong.
Greg WrightParticipantAgreed Gary!!
Greg WrightParticipantThere is an attempt to revive shifter racing at New Castle Motorsports Park by a group of shifter drivers. Hopefully it will be successful, shifters are awesome at NCMP.
Greg WrightParticipantNow that’s interesting isn’t it.
Greg WrightParticipantGif, believe it or not Honda 80 pistons look like the one in the photos.
Greg WrightParticipantTo my knowledge mirrors are or at least were deemed illegal by most organizations.
I have however raced against folks with mirrors installed and found it a great way to screw with them. Pop up in the left mirror, pop up in the right mirror, wave at them when you see them looking in the mirror etc.
Greg WrightParticipantCan’t see it working. “standard” kart pipes are designed to have as wide a power band as possible and shifter pipes are designed to work in a narrower rpm range which is usable due to the tranny.
Greg WrightParticipantNO
Greg WrightParticipantI would have to measure the piston for wear so can’t help you there.
NEVER USE A FLEX HONE ON A 2 CYCLE CYLINDER EVER!!!!
Greg WrightParticipantIt would be a good idea to take a close look at the crankshaft where the bushing rides. Cranks that are showing visible wear at that spot eat bushings.
Greg WrightParticipantJames, your comment about “too much media/marketing emphasis place on the stepping stone, short term customer side of the sport.” is a song that I’ve been singing for years.
You are 100% correct. When that direction was taken some years ago the sport has continually gone down hill. I guess the sport overall is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.
Greg WrightParticipantBy the same token I can’t for the life of me understand why anybody with that kind of budget would race karts. That’s car money right there.
Most of the US born “stars” of racing seem to come from the world of short track car racing and they don’t spend that kind of money doing it.
Greg WrightParticipantUhhhhh Ted, That’s not a pump around system. Should work just fine though, I’ve never needed a restrictor in the return line but many use them.
Greg WrightParticipantChristian, There is a little more being done than just reassembling the engine, in many cases there is minor machine work to be done, and certainly clearancing is involved.
Having said that the $1200-$1500 dollar figures being bandied about are beyond ridiculous. Your dollar estimates are in the general range possibly a bit low but not by much.
Greg WrightParticipantWell said Patricha, I agree 100%. By the same token I can almost guarantee that a percentage of the WKA stalwarts will be willing to cut off their noses to spite their faces.
If this affects DKC in the future it will be a true shame. Personally I am hoping for the best and have no true dog in the fight.
Greg WrightParticipantJust saw this on Facebook;
AKRA Welcomes Dart Kart Members
By Bruce C. Walls
AKRA Media and Marketing
The American Kart Racing Association (AKRA) is proud to announce the addition of the Dart Kart Club and their sanctioned tracks for 2015 to its membership ranks. Dart Kart Club, is one of the nation’s oldest and largest Road Racing clubs in the country. These high-speed racers compete against the clock as much as they do each other.Primarily powered by 2-cycle motorcycle racing engines, these pilots compete on long road racing courses for specific time periods that end in fierce battles before the checkers wave.
Additional details, including their 2015 season schedule, will be announced soon.
Gene Davis, do you want to comment on this posting? Are Dart Kart Club races being sanctioned by AKRA in 2015?Greg WrightParticipantI really need to watch this show although somewhat hesitant. I’m sure my voice is on it at some point from the taping they did at the 2014 Robopong 200 weekend at NCMP where I was the PA announcer.
I hope this thing isn’t a black eye for our sport.
Greg WrightParticipantAdmittedly I’ve only watched a trailer on this show but it reminded me a lot of a previous show aired on ??? Network called something like Gold Cup Karting. Truck loads of money being spent, parents berating their children and generally making karting look like a circus side show.
The dollar figures being bandied about are crazy and not just on this show. Mr. Willis with his $100,000-$150,000 budget is an example. I know for a fact that their are a fair number of people spending 6 figure budgets racing karts, what I don’t know is why.
That kind of money will go a long way in other forms of motorsport that would get more attention and probably be safer as well. No you can’t race Indy or NASCAR with that budget but you can do a hell of a lot of car racing for those numbers.
I must be getting old, I just don’t get it.
Greg WrightParticipantDoes it still try to “rev high”? Good chance of an air leak, leopars have been known to spit out the crank seals on either side from time to time. They can’t be seen without removing the ignition rotor and/or clutch. An air leak would also cause what is going on.
Greg WrightParticipantWhat we have here is a failure to communicate!! Strother Martin in Cool Hand Luke.
