Hi there. I am running a direct drive kart on a 3/8 mile track with 7 turns. The gearing on my kart is 10/93. And this kart will spin the tires coming out of the hairpin. It has plenty of power. Its all about the driver on a direct drive kart. Direct drives love a lot of fuel so you have to constantly keep adjusting the carb to give it some more. If you are a newbie clutch will be a lot easier to drive. But direct drive will be faster even with more weight.

Do you still have the radiator and mount for sale.

You ran 450 on the temp with out sticking the eginge. You might want to go ahead and pull the jug off too and check the skirts of the piston. To see if it has any scorch marks.

They say lean is fast but that is really lean if the pipe has that in it. when I run lean there is still a little oil look to the pipe. What kind of temp were you running. You might want to pull the plug and look at the piston.

I run a track in Texas that is 3/8 mile 7 turn so I run a F1

It depends where you are racing. Long straights and big turns longer flex. Short straights tight turns shorter flex. Gear for the bottom pipe for the top. I would put the 10 degree mount back on for better cooling.

I my self do use 219 chain on my 4 stroke. We had custom clutch sprockets made and cut the frame so we could run a bigger gear on the axel. Split sprocket too. I did this so I could trade gears and chain with my kt100 that way I didn’t have two sets of every thing. Why not run 219 on a 4 stroke since it’ll keep up with a 2 stroke.

As to changing from can to pipe you will pick up lap times. With a pipe you have 3 things you can do to just change your times and rpm. Header Pipe and flex. Don’t get these right and you’ll still be running the same times. Remember kts make power in the 9500-14500 rpm range. Gear for the bottom pipe for the top

Then yes you will need a starter to start it but some people had had luck with electric impacts to start them

I have too broke my pto side crank. I split the case with no problem. But yes you need to take the crank at lest to a shop. No way to do it your self.
