The power unit called “Earthquake” IIRC, is mounted a copy of the Mantis tillers and is available separately, but I’m not sure of cost….it is available as a powerhead for a posthole auger unit too:

IMO, karts are a “boutique” item, ie. not mass-produced.  Even the “factory” efforts aren’t pumping out 10,000 units +…  Therefore, the remaining racers are forced to pay for what is essentially a hand-crafted item, even it’s produced with “modern” techniques.  Also, lack of corporate backing from industries outside the sport forces interior industries to pass marketing and promotions costs on to their customers through the pricing too…

Now why Coyote (or similar) aren’t paying a top-level driver to go win Man Cup races on their cheaper chassis to “prove” that they’re competitive is a mystery.  Even an inferior chassis, (which I’m not implying about Coyote), can win consistently with enough development time and superlative talent in the seat and engine sides…Win Sunday, Sell Monday…  IMO, the reason you don’t see Extreme, or others selling is that they aren’t winning, and they aren’t winning because nobody’s making the risk of running and developing them to the point of competitive worth it for the “top teams,” and so the top teams choose the “proven” chassis and reinforce the impression that Verde, Rosso, or Black are necesary to win.

Oh believe me, I didn’t buy engines from said “builder”…  However, didn’t BMW use iron oxide for break-in via water baths of the cylinder liner or something like that?  Seems like I read about it and decided, “not in mine!”

An “engine builder” I used to know ran his motors on dirt with no air filter for a while to try to accomplish the same thing…   YMMV…lol

For me, it would depend entirely on the demeanor and character of the “senior”… if s/he was self-disciplined and cautious and stayed out of the junior’s way, I’d consider letting them run IF THERE WERE NO SENIORS AVAILABLE FOR THE SENIOR CLASS.  Otherwise, why invite potential conflict?  Short of a developmental disability, I’d make him run with the Senior Novice class with more similar ages…

IIRC, it created a heavy dense fog that wafted through the backyard and covered the next 2-3 neighbors yards too, slowly dissipating over the 15 minute runtime it required, or something like that…

True… I think “the majors” in online kart parts carry it.

Xeramic makes a 2-cycle cylinder treatment with funny disclaimers too….basically to the effect of “don’t breathe it or you’ll die.  Don’t let your neighbor breathe it or they’ll die.  Don’t let your dog breathe it or it’ll die.  In fact, just don’t breathe while using it.”  It might be even as bad as 4-cycle dirt tire preps!  LOL  I wonder if the EPA has banned import of it since we found it circa 2001…

I’m down to my last can of Xeramic chain lube, so time to look up Comet, Russell, et. al. and find a US source…  in ’01 there weren’t as many Stateside, IIRC.

Greg — yes, but the MOTOPLATS have nice clean wiring…

I think I’m going to develop a cover since I work at a CNC shop (as a programmer), and I’ll keep y’all posted.  It will be a plate with central hole for the rotor, and a hole to put the rubber grommet plug into that secures the internal wiring…  I’ll post a concept drawing once I have it.  Luckily there’s plenty of threaded locations for standoffs on that side.  I used to work at a small-run plastic injection molding shop as a machinist too, but that road would be too pricey for this limited an application…
