I think I know that kart well.

Riley stepped out of it after qualifying and let me jump in it at Miller Motorsports Park in 2009.

I started rear of field since I didn’t qualify it and won the race for 250 Twin.

My god that kart was quick in a straight line at such high altitude, credit to Riley.

      2009 USKGP Winner.

I believe the Sharkshifter mount has more adjustment than any other (3 spacers) and has all features required to be the best mount around.
This is what I use and it’s awesome.
I have the engine with starter mounted on kart with Large seat, heaps and heaps of clearance. Would have no problems with XL seat.

I’ve never had the need for push button start on my Stock Honda but now that I got one for trial, I’m sold. So easy!!!!

I read the press link and this post but I can’t see anywhere about the quoted power being at the crank, output sprocket or rear wheels.

The debate is totally pointless unless we know this.

“making it stick is gonna require some serious infield hustling”

I know it’s Daytona and good HP helps, but corner speed is where it is at Bobby, my guess is you must of improved in that area ;-)  …….you have been watching those videos of JR in your TZ again….haven’t you :-)

I agree that the competitor should always arrive prepared, that’s their problem if they didn’t arrive with rain tires.

If there were no wet tires by “MG” in the USA, that means the sole distributor/importer had ran out and they are not doing the right thing by their manufacturer to always ensure stock to their region. Who knows what the true figures are, anyway I wouldn’t even dream of driving to my local track 1 hour away without the wets packed regardless of the forecast, especially at what is the biggest event of the year, so a lesson learned for all those who didn’t have them.

It wasn’t “MG Tires” who failed to supply………..who is the sole importer of MG Tires into North America?

      http://www.wrmotorsports.com/

Furthermore, a promoter of such a large event with a contract to a “one brand” tire series should always work close with the importer to ensure enough stock at all times…..that should be part of the “control tire” tender/deal process.

      Just saying…….

      I just compared all 3.

MRC is Steel and no side to side adjustment.

Swedetech is alloy and has one spacer so you can position the engine to the left or right side of it’s mount. (2 positions)

Sharkshifter mount has three spacers so that will give you 4 positions side to side in moving the engine further or closer to the seat.

The Sharkshifter mount comes with the engine packages I purchase, I can’t fault it after installing into at least 6 different types of chassis.

In saying that, I’m sure the others are good mounts too, I like the amount of adjustability in the Shark mount.

Thank god I read your post Jimmy, I was ready to change the trans oil in my Stock Motos tonight after reading others.

I only change the trans oil every 2 years when I do a bottom end rebuild. That is around 24x race meetings at about 1 hour racing each meeting.

I use Castrol MTX which is 2 stroke trans oil for wet or dry clutch, no problems.

Our seasons would see a low of 40F – 100F and no snow so don’t have extreme outside conditions like some parts of USA to consider condensation in the transmission. Pretty much we are like LA California conditions here.

      I’ll rest easy now.

      On the current CIK Homologation list for KZ2 engines there is;

      Modena KK1

      Vortex RVZ

      Parilla Screamer

      Parilla Drifter

      LKE R14

      TM KZ10B

      Maxter MXS

      Derbi Exigo?

How would I pick the best engine from the current CIK listing?

      Which one is the fastest?

Well since my first guess pronounced as “brark” is incorrect, I’m now guessing it’s pronounced as “brock”.

I did a full rebuild on the weekend for a friend, installed the seals AFTER the cases where closed up with some loctite with my thumbs and a piece of solid timber/lumber and my steel hammer…..tap tap tap tap.

I wish I had that special tool to make it a bit easier but as people have said, its not rocket science and I only do this job on people’s CR125’s maybe 3 times a year.

Bro, bearings/crank are not slip fit from factory, if it was meant to be slip fit don’t you think the factory would have done so? Same goes for CR250. People may prefer the slip fit mods for convenience.

PS….Bro, does the pronunciation of your name sound similar to the 44th President of the United States?

The Stock Honda numbers at this event is going to be totally bad ass! I’d say numbers in all other classes are going to be memorable as well.

I hope this event gets the green light, certainly something that USA karting needs to get the passion flowing again.

It’s up to you guys submitting your deposit checks when the green one ready for it.

Since this is about Crank Seal installation for CR125, the cranks are not slip fit from OEM into the bearings and the bearings are not slip fit into the cases. Therefore something needs to be heated up to assemble the cases shut and you wouldn’t want heating being done while new crank seals are in place, so the crank seals go in after the cases are closed.

What this also allows is the check the crank spins freely with cases torqued up which otherwise could not be felt if the seals are in there creating some resistance.

I like the idea that Chris R has for crank seal installation, while it may be a little overboard for someone who does this job once every 2 years, it’s certainly a effective tool and nice way to do it if your doing this on a regular basis. The last thing you would want is a seal popping out on the transmission side to suck in oil into the crankcase at a race meeting. Maybe even recommend some loctite sealing compound between the seal and cases even though I’ve never used a sealing compound on CR125 or personally had a crank seal pop out of any of my CR125 rebuilds, however free insurance if you have some laying around.

Ohhh and some advise that I’ve always taken from a reputable engine builder, always lube the inside of the crank seals that makes contact with the crank shaft with some Moly grease. Slips though nice to avoid damaging the lip and creates great sealing while bedding in. ;-)

      Gee Tom,

Did those Barth boys really get smacked by CR’s?

Did you tune their KZ’s to a stand still? Didn’t you use the Techsav setup?

      :-) :-)

Currently mounted on a Regetti Rodolphi chassis (Gold Kart – Viper) and also have mounted on a BRM GPM-66 chassis. Both are current CIK reg European chassis.
This mount allows the sprocket/chain to align very close the the 3rd bearing bolt heads just without the chain touching….ever….under racing loads.
The gearbox sump plug is as close as it can be to the main chassis tube just before it touches about 1/2 half way above the tube’s radius. You can’t mount any further/lower than this, that’s why I recommend this mount based on what I know and see for myself….it is deadly accurate in it’s setup.
I have used this mount on about 25x chassis thus far, never an issue.

Sorry, this is the only photo i got with starter mounted onto the chassis.

Gotta admit the old forum rocked, it had a great database of members, easy to use, easy to navigate, easy to read and I don’t recall any bugs on it.

I’ve read the reasons for this newer version EKN forum, I still can’t comprehend messing with something that was so good and popular vs this new version which now looks to have much less activity.

Even though I have no troubles starting myself, I still got mine…..shipped to Australia.

Anyone notice the 10% special offer from Sharkshifter at the moment? Time to grab one now if your considering.

How awesome is the finish, quality and completeness of the kit, yet very light indeed. This really is a game changer for the class, nothing else required, even a freaking battery charger provided. Totally impressive!

Awesome job Bobby, great to see your still enjoying the twin.

Looks like you won the race by 5 secs.

Ian, here is the link to results which is hosted by Dart Kart Club. Scroll down to 2nd page to see Bobby’s result.

I spoke to Bernie late last week and in my discussions actually asked him about this.

It’s not my business to comment but he said that a proposal has now been put forward and he is awaiting the response on whether they say YES or NO to it.

It sounds like it is very formal in the way things happen in their processes etc, they consider much more to this then to just simply hire the black stuff on this track.

So if the response from COTA is positive and your interested, my recommendation is to jump to it. Don’t complain about little things on offer cause it sounds way too hard and costly for any karting promoter to do this it all again.
