for the kart you bought, your better suited for TAG, HPV (think its called something diff now)
I personally wouldnt go chonda i would do LO206 but the 50 mm axel might not give you the flex you will need. but thats my opinion. I know David has been karting a lot longer then me.
Also I you dont want to spend a gazillion on mychron, and you have andriod phone, check out an app called track master. pretty powerfull data loger for a fraction of the cost.
When i get a new kart i set everything to neutral until i get consistent laps, then one or two adjust for 5 laps and see if the times got better.
GLuck!~

im not an expert on this by far but unless you missed some thing while changing the gears it might not be mechanical. Could it have something to do with your ignition at such high rpm?

I dont know about this year but last year and before that I raced shifter sprints in il and the class was dead as a door nail. Apparently its to much work and money.. imo.

When I started shifting I got a 3 yr old Brm. somethings to look at would be current brand production, brake system, castor camber adjustability, also where shifter lever is is positioned on the frame. I now have a GP11 which I like. But for ur forst kart look at CRG, intrepid, tony kart they are reliable as far as replacement stuff. Although the U.S. has had a recent influx of made in america karts you might wanna take a look at.

if its for sure a TAG kart then i would assume its some sort of IAME
However the domed shaped head is reminiscent of the HPV 100.

I used to use the plane doughnut one and then got one with a little more back padding but what a difference the evs makes. Can easily move ur head about but still keeps it with in safety and doesnt choke u to death.. well worth the money.

The drivers should know better.. pop clutch, start, engage clutch, brake… or just start the kart on the stand and ground it in neutral..

Wade, I 100% agree with the other two guys above me. I got back in to karting a bit ago and bought a BRM because they were a leader before my brake in racing. Little did i know that BRMs all but disappeared from my area. So i couldn’t find some specific parts for the kart and not many knew where to get them.
I would highly recommend you pick a chassis that your local track/shop carries. this way youll have a good support shop.

Im sorry but you dont need 30K + to run at the top of a series. You dont have to join a team, you dont have to have the motor coach of the year. That article is a bad example of karting’s grass roots. What the author highlighted was the top teir people with 1000s of $ to throw at something and willing to accept the loss, not the majority of people that race to have fun, or keep their skills up. Clearly there was a shock agenda in that article thus making it a poor article.

Were these products sold without recieving payment?
that just doesnt sound like a good idea…

Agreed with above its a shame that the article focuses on the extremes and the more negative ones.

Shifter karts…
As above stated there is more of everything and needs to be done faster. The hard part in my opinion is being smooth. Banging through gears, and hitting apexes are not to hard but getting through consecutive corners with all that much more going on is where the challenge comes from. If you get to the high levels of shifter karting like S2 S1 it becomes that much more important. I would say start in TAG then once you feel confident enough move to shifter kart.

didnt even know they mad a 45mm rear axle.
-
November 6, 2013 at 7:16 am #14817russ JollyParticipant
Wickedly confused.
Arn’t we supposed to have inside rear slip so that the outside rear is able to turn? As paul was saying tires generally want to go in a straight line even more so when they are connected by a solid axle. So it seems to me at least we would need to loosen the inside rear to turn the outside quicker.
That being said I remember my 5.5 briggs days where we all had g-man full body plastics and steering faring with lay-down or offset seats. Most of the time was because our track had more lefts then rights and also the aero draft effect.
-
October 31, 2013 at 1:56 pm #14415russ JollyParticipant
Isnt there a rule in some classes about the seat being so far back or the back being so close to the axle? Some I would imagine like it because of the control you get over the steering wheel.
-
October 30, 2013 at 3:21 pm #14341russ JollyParticipant
I would never recommend jumping straight into a KZ class with out experience in karting or tons of practice days before hand. As others have mentioned maybe a tag class would be better suited until you get the dynamics of karting down.
that being said…. prepare to hurt, and be tired lot especially on a sprint track. As Ayton Senna said its the purest form of motorsport.
If i was buying a shifter now, I would get something no more than 3 years old. CRG, Intrepid, DR, GP. CR125 is probably your best bet if you want to race. When buying used pay attention to joints, and cracks splits, anything that looks like its not an original weld. If you can have a well rounded kart guy come with to check it out.
Cant think of much else patience maybe? lol
-
September 22, 2013 at 3:02 pm #10456russ JollyParticipant
I think Karting is kinda like going down a hill sitting on a skateboard. The steering is incredibly sensitive, the faster you go the quicker it responds, your only off the ground a couple of inches and if you can master its control you’ll make it down the hill, or in this case win.
