I ran there last december and january and arrived with 180 main 55 pilot, dgj p3. In regular maintenance I noticed scuffs on the exhaust side (light light stick) and richened to 62 pilot. No more issues. I ran same oil ratio as you but pure C12.

It ran better after I did that too.

Contact Curtis or Cliff for addiional help. I’m 2000 miles north this winter :(

As far as I know, the rotary engines karts don’t actually compete with others so much. My basic suggestion would be to persue this project in order to develop your product and learb about our great sport while doing it.

As for the chassis. I have been dealing directly with the PCR factory since 2000 and can help you a bit. You will find that almost everything for that kart is no longer available. The Jaguar was likely produced around 1997. Brake pads are not available and would need to be re-lined locally if you can find that service.

I may have steering columns and spindles here and there.

      Have fun!

Fyi guys I did a billet VHM piston and head kit on a K9B this winter and compares to the stock cast piston an increased piston to wall clearance is recommended. Be certain to have a kart shop or nikasil specialist measure your bore and likely open it up .0005″ or more. Also likely order the smallest VHM piston to save some hone time and extend the life of your jug.

Out of curiosity, how long ago did you leave an email or a phone call with the shops you mentionned?

I developped a bolt-on / easy to remove +1.5hp kit for stock moto that are fitted with 01 cylinder and mandated 99 ignition. It consists of vforce reed cage, base gasket change and programmable ignition. Added bottom and and over rev, as well as more reliable and easier jetting.

Add 1 more hp with cylinder head modification.

Requires zero porting and all parts can be changed back to stock moto regs in 30 minutes.

it worked well at our club where all shifters are run together at the same weight: stock moto, mod moto, ICC, KZ, Tag Shifter.

I would add a vforce reed cage immediately. Its the best value for added power.

For your own budgeting you can use the following for duties and brokerage:

      Brokerage $100

      Duties 6%

That has been pretty standard in my experience.

It’s a good image idea. If people think Pagano has some crazy engine and can’t drive… well go ahead and claim it.

Personally I’d rather claim the engine of the guy in 12th who was impossible to pass because he had so much straight speed.

In claimer racing you hardly ever see an engine claim. The Quebec karters put a claim rule in about 5 years ago because of paddock rumours of Lance Stroll’s rotax engine budget. Well guess what? Nobody ever claimed his stuff.

Same with our local IMCA circle track series 20 years ago. There was a $500 claimer rule while guys were barrelling around with $4000 engines. Hardly any claims.

If we see it anywhere it will be in Cadet where rivalries and fired up dads have pissing matches.

I’m interested to hear more opinions.

Sick! Please post your thoughts when you get on track.

You may want to contact Msquared in Utah. They prefer the 32mm and can give you their reasons. For the most part guys run the 30mm though

Dan, this is a great topic as many newbies experience questions like yours.

First its your money. Spend it with a shop you are comfortable with. Make sure their business practice matches your expectations. If not make sure they explain their business practice.

The shop appearance is a small part of things, but as many shop owners should take note – it is very important and sets the tone for the clients opinions.

Now as to your question of hand holding. Great question. Firstly a proper shop should either sell you an operational kart and then offer advice as post sale service. They can offer mechanical assistance for a fee and coaching as well.

If you buy a roller from them they should be extra patient in your ten visits to buy parts and recieve guidance in assembly (at a distance).

If you buy a roller or parts on your own or online they should offer you service at their shop rate for every minute.

In the end you should get a good kart together, the shop should pay the rent, buy some bread and order some iiTunes for their kids.

It was never that common but used sparingly in Europe and North America in FC. From what I recall the biggest gains we made with the stock engines was by cutting a few rotary valves as from stock they do not have enough duration.

Pipe technology has come a way as well. And you can make gains trying some pipes.

The ignition was very good for it’s era and the case/cylinder design. You may be able to bolt on a new era BRC cylinder for more juice.

Neat cassette style transmission and light design.

      Enjoy your engines!

      Hi Chris,

Rotax suggests 50 hour rebuild intervals. This is reasonable to insure reliability. For club racers I suggest a top end at the 15-20 hour mark and a lower end rebuild at the next due top end (another 15-20 hours).

The engines are quite stout. I’ve seen some come through the shop with 80+ hours and no maintenance. Not advisable but it can be done. I have seen very few let go at the 40 hour mark, but it does happen.

You will enjoy your Rotax kart. Try to learn what you can mechanically and don’t be afraid to ask questions at the track!

      JG
