No one showed up with an LO206 … the organizers would have found a home for them in the 2015 season if they had.

      Hi James,

There isn’t a defined practice day before race day; unfortunately there are a lot of events at NJMP and it would be difficult to get the track for another day before every race. On the other hand, there are open practice days throughout the season – the NJMP website will have that info.

As for track configuration – with the exception of the RMAX weekends, I think we’ll be on a short track (i.e., Avenger or Liberator) configuration. Not sure of the Bomber configuration you mentioned?

      Gif,

Practice prices are dictated by NJMP management. Looks like $65/day from what I see on their website. The expense of running a race vs. running a practice facility aren’t necessarily comparable, but there is a bit of planning left to be worked out in order to figure out all of those details. Hang in there, we’re working hard to organize a series that we think will be fun, competitive, and a great racing environment.

      Gif,

We’re still finalizing some of those details and should be able to start trickling out information as we get that worked out. Ideally we’d have everything organized by now, but we got a bit of a late start on assembling this series. Please keep an eye in these forums and njkarting.org (and NJKarting Facebook page) while we’re getting all of those things worked out.

Sorry I forgot to update this thread. The information is out for the newly created Mid-Atlantic Karting Championship. This will be run at NJMP, but organized and executed by a number of racers (myself included) and race supporters in the area. Check out our press release on the NJ Karting site (http://www.njkarting.org/). We’ll be launching a new site and providing updates soon – mark your calendars!

So, bring out your LO206 (or whatever you’re racing) and bring your friends!

Gif – let’s hope so. The more karters the better.

Ambrose – it certainly is something that has been challenging over the years since the rental karts are big money-makers for the track. Not sure how practices will go yet this year; but, stay tuned and follow the NJ Karting facebook page and keep an eye on the njkaring.org website to get much-needed updates soon.

Just a note on this, there will be racing at F1 New Jersey (i.e., NJMP) this year … the details are still being finalized. As for LO206, I think it’d be a fun class to build – do we have any sense of how many LO206 engines are in the area?

      Jack,

This really does depend on what track and also which class of Rotax you’re running. You’ll probably use a 12t drive gear almost everywhere, but I keep 11t and 13t on-hand for some track configurations. For sprocket, you may see people on any size from 68-88 … all depends on the track, class, and driver.

If you’re just starting out, I’d recommend seeing what others are running at the track you plan to run at – otherwise you’ll spend hundreds of dollars on sprockets that you’ll never use.

      Hi Christopher,

Stay tuned on this topic … there should be some news in the upcoming weeks. Where are you located?

Even as old as it is, I think that manual is good for general info (ride height, toe, caster, camber, etc.).

This page has current info for seat placement, axles, etc.: http://j3competition.com/technical/#technical-user-guides-information

I have to agree with Andy on this one … people ask for things, but the actual turnout doesn’t change much. Ted, I see your point that racing at various tracks in your region becomes problematic due to the unique classes, rules, etc. that each have. I see that here in the northeast where the lines are drawn based on engine package. But, egos and opinions are hard to change.

I think the challenge we face is bringing new blood to the sport of karting, not necessarily finding a way to get those already in karting to attend a new track. We need to advertise what we do and be able to educate people to help them get into the sport. I’ve seen too many people get bitten by a bad used kart deal or buying an engine that can’t be used where they plan to run (bought it because someone convinced them it was a good choice, when in fact that someone just wanted to sell it).

If you’re not getting feedback from others in the same situation it is because they’d rather complain about the problem instead of help solve it – my $0.02.

Last thought from me – how do we find new people that are interested in karting but don’t know about it or how to get in? If we can solve that, I think we’ll grow the sport.

The answer is “it depends”. I’ve had MOJOs become useless after 1 day at some tracks, and have had them go for 3 race days at other tracks. The track surface will play a big role on how the tire performs. I’d be amazed if the tires performed well (or equally) through an entire season. I’m sure you could run them all season, but I’d bet the kart wouldn’t handle well and you’d be chasing odd handling problems because of it.

Acquiring punches can begin after the US Grand Nationals, as you see from this recent GN registration form –

Please list four Rotax Max Challenge events competed in since August 15th, 2012. If you have not acquired “4” punches throughout the course of the year you will not be allowed to race, unless otherwise approved through prior written documentation with Josh Smith, USRMC administrator.

Senior Max has 37 in the Final, but that is after the field is trimmed down. They started with 70+ and had to qualify through the Heats to make the finals. Same is true for Junior Max. Master Max hasn’t had enough entrants to require the trimming before finals, so all Master Max drivers make the show.
