Spray some WD40 on your finger; wipe the O-rings and inside of the pipe; then slide the pipe on while keeping it straight.  A little twisting of the pipe while it is slipping on helps, too.  It’s more technique than anything.  But I’ve found the WD40 works well.  It evaporates quickly when engine temp gets things warm.

Check out http://www.ShopSwedeTech.com.  They have the SCMM1 meter by Speed Concepts.  I’ve used it for years and found it a good tool.

Chuck: I’m not critical of your choice of a $90 helmet, and I’m not hijacking the subject; however, driver safety equipment is the most important consideration in motorsports…in my opinion.  I’ve been upside down in a kart, quarter midget, and motocross more than a few times, and each time I was very thankful for the protection I was wearing.  What I wear is directly proportional to the risks taken in motorsports.  And I want to protect what’s inside the helmet, suit, rib protector, gloves and boots that I wear.

I’ve used the Simpson strap that David shows for several years now…in addition to strengthening the neck and shoulders in my regular workout routine.  Both have made a major impact to reduce the “neck noodle effect.”  I have clips attached to both sides of my Bell GP2 helmet; two straps.  Only ocassionally have I used both straps at the same time.  The straps do limit the ability to turn my head to look beside me.  But I work around that limitation.  The straps make a major difference in long, high Gs turns.  I only road race.

Well done NCK!  What a courageous decision to try this joint event with the big cars…and you made it work very smoothly.

Having us pit together in the West Paddock was insightful!  Being close together for information flow…encouragement…assistance…and having the grid/scales right there, too, was excellent!  I was dreading pushing the kart on the stand to/from the track entry.

Everyone played nice…it can be done!  The fast drivers made it by me safely and I was able to get by the few slower karts that I passed without running any off the track, too.

The only change you may want to think about: Maybe the 3rd practice can be split into fast karts (superkarts and shifters); slower karts; each gets 1/2 the session time.  I only got one clean fast lap in the 3rd practice session before catching slower karts.  Just my opinion.

No complaints about the day!  Well…except maybe that wind…

Ribtect + Ribtect Seat.  Best protection I’ve found for preventing rib injuries for me.

I never balanced tires when doing the sprint track series.  However, in road racing it’s very necessary…fronts in particular.  Next to mounting tires, balancing was on the “least favorite things to do” list.  After getting and learning to use the TurboTire Changer, mounting tires is not longer a big deal.  Recently, I began using balancing beads http://www.<b>motorcycle</b>-superstore.com/50004/i/counteract-<b>tire</b>-<b>balancing</b>-<b>beads</b&gt; .  (1) ounce in each tire…it’s amazingly simple and works for me!  I harvest and reuse what I can when unmounting the tires.

I plan to be at Big Willow for the April 19th event.  Driving up from San Diego on Friday.  I hope to drop my trailer at the track…stay for any tailgating…but I’ll be camping at the Holiday Inn Express in Lancaster…11-miles to the south :)

I would be at Chuckwalla, too, but for Willow Springs the weekend before and NCK at Thunderhill the week following.  No way can I manage 3-back-to-back weekends!  Hope ProAutoSports and Speed Ventures will give us another try.

Coil Wire: If you mean the wire from the coil to the spark plug, yes it unscrews.

Rebuild Water Pump: You can replace the two outer seals without removing the cover, but it is hard…tight.  If you need to replace the drive gear and bearing, you must drain the oil and remove the cover.  It’s easier to replace all the parts with the cover removed.  Go to Honda Parts Direct.com and print the Water Pump drawing.  You may need to replace gaskets, too.

      Started as an adult.

HPV.  But my size and weight were a penalty.  Still a good place to begin.

Moved to the 80cc shifter; then to the Stock Honda 125cc shifter (dream ride).

As an adult, I would point anyone to the TaG as a good place to begin.

I’m registered.  And I know that Don Howard, a new shifter road racer from San Diego, is planning to register, too.

With NCK running Big Willow April 19th, June 21st, and Sept 20th, this is a great tune-up event for those needing some more seat-time.

Hoorah!  It’s a reasonable way to encourage participation and support for the NCK BOD sticking their collective necks on the line to host pricey events.  $75 to insure I get a place in the registration line with fellow members, ahead of those that cherry-pick what events they will attend, is fair.  IMO.  That said from the perspective of a fellow that drives a minimum of 6+ hours (each way) to support/race NCK events.  If we don’t support NCK, we won’t always have a road race place to race.

Would totally enjoy getting to run this track.  Bad timing for me.  The weekend before I’m in Chandler AZ with the SWK group on the Bondurant West Track.  Can’t pull-off back-to-back weekends anymore.

Hope this opportunity comes around again…with more heads up.

Uh…Ray: Are you going to Big Willow on March 15th?

I think it was the 2002 SKUSA SuperNats…they kept our tires in parkferme.  Whoa…that proved to be a nightmare without an impact driver.

Got the Milwaukee 1/2″ cordless impact driver with a 3/8″ adapter when I got home from SuperNats; been using it since.

However, I use a ratchet wrench to tighten/loosen the wheel nuts.  I do not trust an impact driver to get the wheel nuts totally tight.  Haven’t lost a wheel, yet.

The impact driver is a time saver for me.

I have the KartRaiser.  You can even keep your kart on the stand when hauling in the trailer.

Dang…hope you’ll be okay soon.  Sure sorry for the mishap.  I saw the two dirt covered karts when we came back around on the green flag lap but couldn’t see the numbers…I was watching what I was doing entering turn 2 at speed.  Didn’t see the kart numbers until the cool down lap.  Guessing you whacked the arm hard on the engine.  No tossing pizza dough right handed for a while, Mr.
