James, you somehow missed my point.  You expressed your dissatisfaction with practicing on a half track before a race on Sunday.  So I followed with an example of a track that is able to share track time between rentals and karters effectively.  How do they do it?  NJMP can look at the model MMX is using to see if it would work for them.  I was not suggesting that everyone drives 500 miles.    It was merely an example of personal experience.

I think they do this so they can have Rentals use the other half of the track. The Solution is to look at what the guys at Mooresville do. They have Rentals and Kart practice taking turns on the use of the track without inconveniencing either group. Their customer service at MMX is so good that it is worth the 500 mile treck down there every now then for us.

The Steel Exhaust Isolating Mat is legal for all Rotax senior so do not worry about that. I think this has been the case since the 2012 season. You said you race in the TAG class so you probably see the Leopard powered karts get warmed up rather aggressively on the stands and think you better do the same! In PA we have similar weather or even colder sometimes. All we do is add two or three strips of tape on the radiator, Start the kart about 3 or so minutes before rolling off the grid and we get it to temp with in a lap or so. This is sometimes in weather cold enough that we add latex gloves inside the regular gloves to keep feel in the fingers! I am assuming that you have the new radiator with the flap to modulate airflow. You are at MMX yes? I love that track! Talk to Eric Jones, he will help you plenty and keep you Rotax legal.

If you tip the scales at over 200lbs: Get a shifter

If you want to race SKUSA, WKA, or USPKS: get a Leopard

I don’t hate Leopards, they just don’t make much $ense.  …to me anyway!

The Fronts are CRG pattern and are 135. The rears are 210 regular metric.

Yes the beacons work with MyChron 4. I have both of them listed for $30 each.

If by old style you the mustard coloured ones they the answer is yes. I have a full set and an extra rear. The rears are 180s for Jr. I would like to sell the whole lot. Do you want pictures? I was about to list a few other things I don’t and those wheels were part of it.

Given the way you have described the condition, I come to the following conclusion. In warmer weather you do not warm up your engine on the stand, therefore; the packing last longer.  Yes?  In colder weather, you warm it up on the stand and in so doing unburned fuel is dumped into the exhaust pipe soaking the packing.  When you finally go full tilt, it burns it.

Solution: Try using/adding the Steel Exhaust Isolating Mat. Also, if you start your engine about 2 minutes before you roll out, you should be up to temp within a lap especially if you put your hand over the radiator.  If too cold, add tape. Starting it on the stand should then be for making sure all system are a go.
