Yes.  Connected to the power leads on the 2 port data hub that comes with the GPS.  I bought a couple of the female plugs would plug in the existing plug on the battery and put flat blade connectors on to plug into the Mychron wiring.

I decided to go this route because of how quick the Mychron with GPS would run down a 9 volt.

I’m using a 3s Li-Po RC car battery to power Mychron 4 and GPS.  It’s 11.1 volts and it charges to about 11.9 volts.   It’s been great, lasts so much longer than a 9 volt.  No more buying a 9 volt for $6 at the gas station I forgot to get one earlier.  Here’s a link to the one that I have.

I’m also using a 4s Li-Po as the main kart battery to start my PRD.  Hardly ever have to charge it and it weighs about 600 grams.

Are you racing at NTK in Denton?  I’m a member of NTK.  Welcome to club.  I bought a used kart with a PRD Fireball at the end of January.  I did the last race of the winter series with it, then switched it to a clone/chonda.  Now I’m running with a Animal in our box stock animal class and loving it.  If we do brackets again in the winter series I’m planning on putting the PRD back on for some fun.  The PRD is a strong motor and a blast, I just wanted to practice smooth driving and there’s a few very experienced guys in our animal class.

What gear are you running?  You mentioned your mychron was broken so you probably don’t know max rpm.

On your cutting out issue, it sounds like the high speed needle is set a little lean.  You can adjust the high speed needle while driving to dial it in just right.  Here’s a link to the PRD manual that will help.  The second link is to a PRD owners group in Australia.  PRD is very popular over there.  Tons of good tips to read on that site.

Welcome to Karting.

Agree that the best starting option is the LO206.  I just started in Jan/Feb of this year and bought a super clean used Intrepid with a PRD Fireball 125 on it.  Did a few practice days and 1 race with the PRD just for fun.  Then switched over to racing our Clone class.  Didn’t take me to too long to be swayed by the LO206.  Now I’m running our Box Stock Animal class (Basically a LO206 with the 12000 rpm coil.)  It’s a blast and the competition is really close.  The class is not just for beginners, we have a guy that’s been kart racing non stop since 1992!

Sounds like you’re going in the right direction.  At first I was wondering why you didn’t just join GoPro.  Then I looked at their site, it looks like a great place.  Makes me really happy about our Club/track in Texas.  Our membership costs only $315 a year and you get a key to the track.

I don’t think you could go wrong finding a used chassis and putting a LO206 on it with whatever restrictions there will be for her age.  Then as she gets older you’ll be able take the restrictions off and continue to use the LO206 in any age category.  With the LO206 basically all you have to do is change the oil, clean the air filter and clean the carb once in awhile.  It should last for years.  The focus will be on smooth driving and kart set-up.

Michael welcome to the karting world and NTK.  I’m a club member at NTK.  Chonda or Box Stock Animal is a great place to start.  Seems a lot of people are in the process of making the jump over to the Animal class from Chonda.  Box Stock Animal for us is basically a LO206 with the blue coil and a different pipe.  It’s still the sealed motor and you can run LO206 at another track by switching back to the green coil and spec pipe.

We’re having a Vintage Kart Exhibition and Swap meet at the track tomorrow from 10-3.  It’s free and there will also be open practice.

I have a couple of Chonda motors that I’ll be looking to sell at the swap if you’re interested.
