February 9, 2016 at 10:57 am in reply to: AKRA Carolina Motorsports Park Road Race March19,20, 2016 #60818johnny brooksParticipant
As I read the post about the upcoming Kershaw race I notice the date as March 19-20. On the entry blank I see no Friday road race practice.
I look at my overall schedules I had put together and see it as March 23-25.
So I go to AKRA home page, click on the ‘road race series banner’ and see that it is indeed listed as the 23rd – 25th.
I see a button for ‘upcoming races’, hover and then click ‘road race series info’ on the drop down, get the same as when I clicked on the banner….March 23 -25.
Go back and hover again on upcoming races and this time click on ‘road race schedule dates’ and Voilla!…March 18 -20. Uh oh, still shows 3 day event as of today.
CLEAR AS MUD !!
johnny brooksParticipantJust after WKA releases the schedule, VIR calls and cancels .
July is now listed as TBA on WKA site.
VIR has canceled all of July due to the need to do some repaving work.
johnny brooksParticipantVIR in July has been cancelled.
WKA site now shows TBA on the series schedule page.
Apparently VIR has to do some repaving and cancelled all of July.
WKC/WKA not to blame…..completely out of their control.
johnny brooksParticipantHere is a kart that was for sale that had an electric power steering setup.
Unisteer? from a Honda ATV??

September 10, 2015 at 3:22 pm in reply to: August 28-30 WKC/WKA Summit Point Grand Nationals Pre-Entry Last Call #54110johnny brooksParticipantjust got the email link to the WKA race recap….OOOOPS!
I’ve sent a message to WKA on their site.
johnny brooksParticipantWow….totally clueless.
Hey admin….maybe you could ban (and delete) all video of illegal street use of a racing kart.
This is a forum to promote racing….this clown just doesn’t get it.
Shawn, do us a favor here and stick to youtube!
johnny brooksParticipantWow, you guys really just don’t ‘get it’.
Thinking that buzzin around the streets on bikes or atvs, etc. is somehow relevent…..We are only talking about racing karts. We are a small community that lacks exposure. Any exposure we do get should be positive…such as the CBS Sports coverage of the SKUSA races.
I’ll repeat that I hope you are both arrested and charged with maximum offenses…speeding, reckless, unlicensed, uninsured…maybe losing your driver’s license for a while might change your habits.
Grow up boys…..find some private property to do your doughnuts on.
Promote karting in a positive, family friendly manner….NOT BY BREAKING EVERY DRIVING LAW ON THE BOOKS!!FWIW- I’ve been karting for 30 years and never ran a kart on a public street.
again…just my opinion
I received a PM from Mr. Obrien so I’ve removed part of my post.
johnny brooksParticipant“Didn’t see any representation for those of us that do this type of karting.”
It’s not a type of ‘karting’, only a type of ‘stupidity’!“Just don’t have the time, or motivation to find a track.”
What an arrogant SOB!The sport of Kart Racing has enough issues to deal with; we certainly don’t need a future ‘Darwin Award’ winner like you to give a bad impression to those who see you being a moron on public streets. Hopefully you’ll be arrested and your shit impounded…before you end up dead or disabled.
I’d expect this type of post from a young teenager…grow up already! 41 ???There’s a reason sanctioning bodies have rules like this:
“Rule 114.1 KARTS ON PUBLIC ROADS:
Any WKA member driving a kart on public thoroughfares or who assists a person driving a kart on public thoroughfares is subject to immediate suspension of membership privileges.”Hopefully you’ve used your real name and WKA/IKF/AKRA and all the local clubs see this and flag you as unfit.
just my humble opinion.
johnny brooksParticipant2015 WKA Manual, page 25, sec. 115.4:
NOTE: If driver’s hair extends appreciably from beneath helmet, it is MANDATORY that the driver wears a “balaclava” or head-sock to prevent the hair from extending outside helmet. …….
To me, ‘appreciably’ is rather vague, but ‘to prevent the hair from extending outside helmet’ is concise.
If I was doing pre-tech and suspected someone’s hair of being too long, I’d have ’em put on their helmet and if hair was below the bottom edge of the helmet, tell them to get a sock. If none available, I’d give them my unused spare.johnny brooksParticipantLooks like a four stroke in the picture…with those fat front tires I bet torque-steer’s a bitch!
Long steering column and rearward placement of driver means a whole new engineering model for frame flex….I wonder if inside rear lift will be the norm?
“Grasshopper, you must achieve proper ‘male dog pissing’ posture to get thru apex faster!” :)
April 21, 2015 at 9:50 am in reply to: Mikuni 40mm I-series Carburetor with built in Accelerator Pump (BN40I 38-27) #46504johnny brooksParticipantBob,
Your testing of various ‘alternatives’ has been fun to follow and I know many share your dislike of jet changing.
I am curious as to whether you’ve heard of the APT Smartcarb. It is a single metering rod style of float carb with an ‘auto’ compensation circuit for air density. It can’t be tuned ‘on the fly’, but once dialed in thru rod height adjustment and idle screw it compensates for any air density changes.http://www.powerapt.com/Introduction.php
I currently run a 38mm cast model (they also make them in billet) on a Swedetech 5 degree offset boot thru a VForce 3 reed, fed by Dellorto pump (no tee/return). The rest of the motor is Stock Honda as I was not looking for the fastest, just ease of use. This is on an F125 laydown so Stock Honda rules are not applicable.
Just an FYI for those looking at options.

johnny brooksParticipantAccording to WKA 2014 TM Section 115:
M and SA 2005 rated helmets are legal until 12/20/2016.
johnny brooksParticipantI bought this starter nut from these guys:
http://www.accu-products.com/accu-products-specialties/bosch-drill-kit-starter-tool-combo-deal.html
(the drill and clutch seemed a bit expensive–nut was 25 bucks).
I have started my motor with a cheap Ryobi 18v drill, but if it needed a lot of spinning (flooded), the drill battery does not have the capacity. A fresh new lithium 24v or 36v drill with a spare battery might be OK. I use a standard Coleman w/ separate battery….however my Honda is on a laydown so I don’t have seat clearance issues.
johnny brooksParticipantWhat I learned from episode 2 is that if you want to run up front in Yamaha Jr. ya better get daddy to buy ya one o them new X30 motors!
Oh yeah….also ignore your paid tuner’s observations about sliding the kart too much and just do what your pouty little brat says.
Too harsh?? :)
johnny brooksParticipant310.1 is still the same in the 2014 WKA Tech Manual….
allowed….mounted securely to kart.
The mirror worn on the hand is NOT legal.
johnny brooksParticipantRobert, where are you reading this rule?
2014 WKA TM rule 310.4 allows IC/E karts to run in Unlimited class.
WKA’s F125 class is a ‘laydown’ class running 45 minutes. I don’t think an IC/E will fit the dimensional requirements…ie. maximum 50″ width and 26″ height.
???
johnny brooksParticipantMonday race 5 / Tuesday race 4
johnny brooksParticipantHere are the corrections:
http://worldkarting.com/downloads/2015-misc/DEC%202014%20SUPER%20TECH%20UPDATE.pdf
johnny brooksParticipantBear in mind this book won’t have carb info relating to karting, nor exhaust.
It is 1992-97 which gives the info you need for the 6 speed gearbox. The 1999 Karting CR125 is a mix of early bottom end (6-speed), ’99 cyl, head, and ignition. (Except in orgs that allow use of the 2001 cyl & head)
You could also order a 1999 manual for an extra 50 bucks, but it’s not really necessary.
http://www.helminc.com
If above link doesn’t work.johnny brooksParticipantThis guy’s probably got the nut you need. I got one for a cr125 (same as rs125)…call him to verify fit for RS250/CR250?
Uses LH thread, goes in flywheel like a puller.
His “drill setup” seems a bit pricey, and may be too long for your seat as well?I use standard kart starter with separate battery, but I’m a F125 laydown so i’ve got more room.

September 29, 2014 at 9:10 am in reply to: Any one live in Kentucky? Any tracks road courses around there #34639johnny brooksParticipantI don’t live there, but WKA announced a Road Race at the new track being built in Bowling Green at the Corvette Museum (across the Interstate).

If you’re looking for Sprint tracks, someone else will have to chime in.
johnny brooksParticipant
Johnny,
Here is a pic of my paddle shifter. It is an evolution of of one my dad created in the mid 80’s….
Nice,
Thanks.johnny brooksParticipantJeremy,
That’s an interesting shift paddle you’ve got…any chance you could post a picture or two?
Great videos.
