Margay used 1.75″ (44.45mm) axles in the past, but I don’t know if it was for shifter?
Are you sure it’s 45 and not 40 mm?
I’ve never seen a reference to a 45 mm axle gear in all my searches over the years.
johnny brooksParticipantFrom 2013 manual:
WKA man cup = 82”
WKA gold cup = 74”
WKA sprint road race –
WKA bodywork = 76” (includes nose)
CIK bodywork = 80” (includes nose)What’s the overall length of a Euro kart?

You could get one of those helmets that tilts up/down. That would allow you to have your glasses on (with the straps) and get the helmet on your noggin. Then flip down the front face shield. not a great link- but he shows the ‘modular’ helmet and he uses it because he can have his glasses on and then flip it down. http://siennabrickroad.com/2010/04/gear-part-one-helmets/ Ray
Make sure you find one that’s SNELL rated before spending big bucks.johnny brooksParticipantGenerally, in Spec/Stock Honda, re-plating is NOT allowed.
Check with your race organization and find which rules you run under.

Karting
AHM and HPD make Honda CR125 engine parts and rebuild kits available to kart racers and builders throughout the United States via The Honda Racing Line. The Honda two-stroke engine is used in the popular Spec Honda/Stock Moto classes by a variety of karting sanctioning bodies. The Honda Racing Line offers racers a new source for CR125 parts, engine-rebuild kits and technical support. HPD works with sanctioning bodies to ensure the Honda CR125 program continues to grow and succeed.
As in 2012, HPD will again offer support programs for competitors using the Honda CR125 engine package during the SKUSA ProTour and WKA Dunlop Tire Road Race series seasons, as well as all SKUSA PKC series.
HPD also offers an exciting and innovative new package, a fuel-injected, four-stroke CRF250 engine, featuring a complete engine/chassis install kit to help get racers on track. The CRF250 provides longer intervals between top-end changes, and offers the ease of using pump gas, resulting in an unmatched driving experience.

They are still producing many parts for all their bikes going way back. A quick check at Service Honda and their online system goes back to 1974 with a folder named ‘models with no year’ below that with numerous models listed.
My brother was able to order a carb kit for his vintage Honda Trail 90…..no problem.
I think Stock Honda is safe for quite a while yet….plus you can still get service manuals! :)
johnny brooksParticipantSomething to consider about batteries is that the new lightweight LiFEPO4 like the Ballistic cannot be charged with an anti-sulphating pulse charger like my CTEK 3300. (Pulse mode is part of program and can’t be turned off). Older standard type chargers OK, and newer chargers where pulse mode can be turned off would be OK………PULSE MODE will kill a Lithium battery.
Price and weight are the other factors.
A basic Sealed Lead Acid 7ah battery is less than 20 bucks and weighs 4.8 pounds.

An equivalent Ballistic LiFEPO4 8ah battery is about 100 bucks and weighs 1 pound.

Andy’s NiMH 5ah is right in the middle of that at 2 pounds and 65 bucks.

you need to re-post this in the “Vintage Karting” section.
I don’t understand your question about ‘converting’ to centrifugal clutch….it appears to have one already on the engine. (or part of a clutch)
It is definitely NOT a shifter kart….it is a fairly old ‘laydown’ road racing kart.
It would require restoration by an experienced karter in order to be safe and/or actually run again.
johnny brooksParticipantBut some of my karts life is going to be spent on private roads up north
Probably not a good idea. Don’t become another sad story of a new karter being killed after losing it and hitting a pole or fence post while ‘practicing’ on a road.
If you want to drift and play somewhere, get a fun kart or a used concession kart.
A shifter kart is not a play toy….it can and will kill you if not treated with the proper respect.
Your question about the carb angle shows you have a limited knowledge of mechanics and your admitted inexperience of driving a kart are adding up to potential disaster.
You need to hook up with someone at the track who can steer you in the right direction.
We love to welcome new karters, but also want them to be around for a long time, too!
johnny brooksParticipantThat carb does not look like its been modified for pump around. No return tube visible. What does the fuel pump look like…can you post a picture of it.
No you can’t run a float bowl carb at a 45 angle….needs to be vertical with bowl on the bottom.
Oakland Valley is a dirt oval I think….do they even have a class for a shifter?
If you end up running sprint or road race you will need to move that radiator, too.
Sprint and road race have pretty specific rules. You will need to know the year of your motor….specifically the cylinder, head, and ignition.
Find where you can run, talk to people at the track, get a rule book.
Have you driven a shifter kart before? You say you are new to karting. A shifter is not exactly a ‘beginner’s ride’.
Go here and scroll down for diagram of how pump around works:

Hope that helps.
