    Linda,

Could I get a salad with RANCH dressing to go along with the pizza PLZ!!! AND, 6 pkgs of crackers also.  Brad would like RANCH for his pizza also!!! LOL.   ENJOY the lake!!!

Maysha should be posting the information on the KART web very soon. We did make a few changes to the schedule. We swapped both 45 minute races each day from how we ran it at Afton – Hallett.

If you haven’t made motel reservations yet, you might want to get on it ASAP as they normally have softball tournaments during this same time.

It will be another GREAT KART/MARRS-RUSSELL KARTING SPECIALTIES event!!! Why wouldn’t it, THE MAN will be there as your race director!!!  SORRY!!!!!! LMAO

On a safe note, we had NO RED flags the entire weekend and that goes FULL CREDIT to the racers for doing a SUPER job!!!!  Thanks to all the racers, Maysha along with her daughters, Roger Hatcher, my kids and the HMRC staff for helping make this a GREAT event.

I look forward in seeing everyone back at HMRC for the KART/MARRS – RUSSELL KARTING SPECIALTIES Road Race National Championships July 31-Aug 2.

    FYI,

    1) Racers should be able to get in Friday starting at 3:00pm. I will be there by 3:o0pm myself. Remember, we have sponsors who have reserved pit spots along with some if not all of the race ports have been rented, so you might want to check with me before unhooking your trailer.

    2) Hallett has track fuel available. They have SUNOCO 91 (pump gas-no ethanol)), 98GTX & 110. ALL should be good but we will tech it when we get there on Friday to verify.

    3) There will be vendors with parts & etc available if needed. I know that RUSSELL KARTING SPECIALTIES, TANDA RACING (MG tires), MT POCKETS, HATCHER ENTERPRISES, MISI as a few who will be there.

    LET’S GO RACING!!!!!!!

BIG CREDIT goes out to these guys for there thoughts & engineering!!!!

The down falls I see here are:

    1) Heat off the motor.

    2) You hit something up front and you could ruin more then the kart (motor pkg.) let alone having the motor in your lap.

    3) Steering. Unless they have the weight distribution right, better have strong arms.

    4) Arrow. Going to catch some major drag. May not be bad on a sprint track??

Here in KART land, we have made some REAR engine “laydown” animal karts in the road race division that have done real well. The main object was to give the driver more compartment space especially those that are wide up in the shoulder area since the animal motor is much wider then most motors we currently race.

For the ONE driver (Lindsay) who will be the only one from MT POCKETS that will be able to make it this weekend, her kart already to load on Thursday. Unfortunately Brad has to go west (Dodge City) for work, I have to go to St Louis for a conference and Jim is still mending so it will be her supporting our group. Those who know me know that I DON’T like to miss any races!!! In the 20 years since my first kid (Brad) started racing, this will be the 2nd time I have sent one of them off by themselves and that SUCKS!!!!!!  You ALL keep her straight!!!

Everyone have a FUN, SAFE weekend!!!

    David,

    VERY VERY GOOD POINT!!!

As a promoter, racer, etc I’m glad to read that we have racers looking out for hazards!!!!  Those of us who put races on don’t always see or hear of hazards around the course or even in other areas with all the other things it takes to put an event on and having someone come to us letting us know, only makes things better for all as we are not perfect either!!!! This brings up a VERY IMPORTANT POINT that ALL racers needs to be ware of along with this needs passed onto ALL racers. With there help, we ALL can make our sport safer. I have NOW added this to my driver’s meeting notes to pass onto the racers at future events.

M.K.A. would like to thank everyone who attended.

Weather on Saturday was BEAUTIFUL (80+ and sunny)!!!  Sunday was OK but cloudy and cool (60+). I can not think of 1 class that didn’t have a minimum of 2 karts battling for the lead for their entire race. GREAT job guys and gals!!!!!

    Clark,

KART has a SPRINT TAG CADET (8-11) and have had it for 7-8 years.  In 2013 and 2014, we experimented with a SPRINT TAG JR (12-15) as a local option class and still have it as a L.O. class. The racers in these two classes have shown that they can run on road race tracks. This year we are adding a SPRINT B&S LO206 JR (8-12) class at a couple of our events to see how it goes. These classes run sprint chassis, none or CIK or Schribner bodywork with the standard bucket seat. I’m guessing it will be a success also considering that all the driver’s so far have come from a sprint track and have some driving experience which is a great plus!!

Keep in mind as for track time, we give them (alone) 2-15 minute practice sessions each day and also have them participate in our novice session that starts right after the Saturday morning driver’s meeting. As for there race,  we run the youngsters with our Animal sportsman classes (old folks) to keep them out of the way of the faster karts which goes good. On the two events of where our third JR class will be running, we will be adding 1 – 30 minute  race each day to the schedule and put all the JRs in it. Of course we do adjust there entry fee as they don’t get as much track time as everyone else.

We also have what we call YAMAHA 4 HOLE CAN for 12-up that has different chassis and weights that runs 45 minutes. This class was developed for those wanting to run a two stroke who are new to the sport and those wanting to move up. This class has also been a success. Great stepping stone for the younger and those older driver’s getting into the sport.

Here is something to think about for those running dual REAR systems.

Rather you have one caliper with two master cylinders OR two calipers with separate master cylinders on a SINGLE rear disc,  what good is either if you brake a disc?? (seen this more then once including at sprint tracks)!!!!! Wouldn’t having one rear and fronts vs two rear systems give us a better chance of getting slowed down and stopped if this happens let alone better control of the kart??

Looks and sounds like you just got the wrong width nose by what you have said of the nerf bars and old nose measures.

    David,

You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned that driver’s hit the track with no experience in a kart let alone have a clue how to maintain it!!! HELL, we have experienced driver’s with the same issues!!!!! Talking about maintenance, I’ve seen some karts that if they just cleaned there karts would be a start!!!  Amazing what you might find when you clean the dirt and grease off.

    To all,

Something I wish more organizations did what KART and possibly others do and that is, we have what we call a NOVICE SCHOOL first thing after the driver’s meeting on Saturday morning for those with 3 or less road races that they must participate and pass before they are allowed to practice and/or race the remaining of the weekend. And YES, we have had a few that didn’t get back onto the track after the novice school!!! There are things we cover in a meeting then we have experienced qualified driver’s lead & tail them for several laps beginning pretty slow then building speed. When they come in, the experienced driver’s talk to both the driver’s and race directors of there findings. In most cases the new driver’s are given some pointers in which they appreciate very much.

As for this brake thing, IMO it seems to me that several are asking “why some sprint classes have to have dual brake systems and some are only required”. KART REQUIRES ALL karts up to 100cc Open (both sprint & laydown) to have dual brake systems in road racing. Under 100cc Open, it’s an option. I have my own opinion rather ALL karts should or not have dual brake systems. Brakes are made for stopping but have nothing to do with DRIVING SKILLS.

Don’t ANYONE take this wrong!!! Why don’t ALL SPRINT classes run the SPRINT rules?? Other words, no full bodies & standard sit-up seat as examples like we used to and they still do at the sprint track, WE used to!!!! Here is the MAIN reason some of our sprint classes that allow this are going much faster then years ago.

Dam it Linda don’t rush me!!!!! LOL

HAYWIRED at Rc’s will get us all fired up to go racing.  For those who don’t know what/who HAYWIRED is well, it’s Brad’s country band. He has opened up for some pretty big names such as BIG & RICH. His band is going to RC’s to play in a packed house of racers and I hear some racers from Illinois and possibly Florida are coming . If your close, come on by as you will have the time of your life I can promise!!!!!

As for Afton, I believe we are real close of being ready with karts and getting the race set up.

Afton event schedule and entry form should be on the KART web (www.kart.org) soon.

So ALL are in the know!!!!!!

This event didn’t just develop over night!!!!  I believe that I can say since I was part of this, that those who have been working on this from both KART and WKA over the past several months have worked hard and well together to make this happen. NO hiccups and all went smooth!!!!! Having a facility that is between both organizations really helped in making this happen.

As a representative from KART who worked with WKA officials on this event, I assure YOU that YOU won’t want to miss this event!!!! KART themselves have had multiple combined events with other organizations in the past with success and now having a combined event with WKA, is a plus for ALL ROAD RACERS!!!

With declining numbers and expenses of promoting an event especially at major road race facilities, having 2 organizations working together to give us road racers a place to race is AWESOME!!!!

I look forward in attending this event and hope all other ROAD RACERS come support this event as well.

Event information will be posted later in the year on both the WKA and KART web sites. IF, there are any classes that neither WKA or KART run on there current schedules, contact myself or Robby as we will look into it.

This is one that will be missed dearly!!!!!! Rest in peace David!!!

As for welding, he was one of the tops!!! He welded things no one else wanted to even attempt.

He was one of those who would experiment and try anything. I remember just a couple of years ago he brought a 4 engine (controls), 2 on each side on a laydown kart to Afton to test for his trip to the salt flats he had plans for. Only issue was that he found out before making the trip that it was not what the salt flats deemed as a legal entry to try and set a land speed record.
