This event pegged the funometer, as usual!

Again, I don’t understand why we don’t have to turn people away from our races, but I’ll just consider myself fortunate.

    Yellows most likely choice.

    Too cold for Reds.

Watch your right side tires for relatively rapid wear.

I don’t understand why we don’t have to turn people away from a race at Laguna Seca!

It’s a pleasure and privilege to race at this track, and it looks like there will be plenty of room for those of us racing on it.

The challenge is that with only two sensing points all you’re likely to learn is how little you know about tire temperatures!

To answer many questions would require a bare minimum of four points and much preferably twelve (inner/center/outer for all four tires) with GPS data.

Don’t mean to discourage you but if you have the resources, go to a more complete data collection system with sensors (~$3,000.00).

Don’t agree.  CHT is very important to tuning and could let you know you’ve lost cooling before damage.

    Overpriced?

Shifter kart racing is not inexpensive.

As a great response I read at Apexspeed stated to a middle income cost complainer; Racing is not for every income.  If it’s too costly, you’re in the wrong class of racing.

Spend for fun and enjoy yourself!

    Manny.

Save yourself a lot of heartache by rebuilding the entire engine.  The parts you’re finding in the top end are likely a reflection of the whole engine.

Get an original Honda service manual and follow the specifications religiously and you’ll be happy.

    Hi Walt.

Seats and rib protection are a VERY personal thing.

The Ribtect vest is thick and will take up quite a bit of the upper seat gap, but you’ll need to test it for yourself to see if it works for you.

    Jim,

Is the price at Sonoma high during the week of Labor Day?  Maybe we could have a race during that week, not on the weekend.

    Hi Brian.

I’m a EE and understand your logic.  The issues I’ve encountered with black boxes (BB’s) is  with heat/vibration/connectors.  Same as almost all electronic devices.  BTW, there are analog components in the BB that don’t follow the rules of transistors.

Locate BB’s in cool ambient spots and mount them in rubber with robust, liquid-tight connectors.  Also, no tight conductor bends and room to move without stress from either vibration or bending.  Wires with long radius bends are best.

However, we lost a BB on a Honda CR 125 recently.  Spent a great deal of time removing the potting around the PCB and components to find a broken or overheated component.  No luck.  This BB had some history before we remounted it using the above logic…

Go to a good KT100 engine guru for more info for your specific engine.  The forum is heavy with experience and also opinion not supported by either logic or knowledge.

    YMMV

    Paolo’s advice is solid.

If you want to be extra certain the clip doesn’t part company, you can wrap a small safety wire loop around the clip and side link.  Motorbike racers that use this style repair link (125 GP) sometimes use a small dab of black RTV on the clip and side link.

Given that the carb you’re showing has a round slide and most of us use “flat slide” carb’s, there’s not much expertise here.

If air is allowed to leak through this hole, it MAY cause running issues, especially at idle and start up.

Simply putting “an old Mikuni” carb’ on your engine may create more issues than it solves.  Putting the carb’ on that this forum’s participants use is the best way to extract expertise from this group.

    My $0.02, FWIW.

I’ve raced Formula Ford, Formula 1000 (B) and D Sports Racer in SCCA and can tell you that NOTHING with doors is close to the feeling you’re experiencing in a  fast kart.

Try road racing your kart if you want real racing experience.  Or, spend the money to chase the racing experience with at least a Formula 1000.

    Hi Blair.

    Stop the rain up there!

You coming down?  If so, I’ll bring the LD.  It has life!

Raced it at Sonoma last Turkey Day weekend.  Heavy crash with an errant superkart kept testing to ~30 minutes.

I took it to Willow Springs earlier this year and worked out some development issues.  Cooling wasn’t large enough.  Cockpit not comfortable.  Stuff…  Total time was ~35 minutes.

Will be taking it again to Willow Springs next month, on the 20th.  The track is really rough at one end, but the rest is pretty smooth and very fast.  A good spot to test.

Raced the modified CR80 sprint shifter at Laguna last month.  Ran out of talent and speed after ~20 minutes of total time.

Our races are dry and warm.
