Gary LawsonParticipant
It was definitely built that way and not modified. I don’t recognize the kart but by the looks of it I would say it is more than 6 years old and that it likely was built by an oval kart manufacturer. 99% of karts with heim front ends are oval karts
Gary LawsonParticipantWho’s in? Not Michigan david
Gary LawsonParticipantSend me some pics. I’ve seen a couple and may be able to tell you what it is. It’s not a coyote for sure.
Gary LawsonParticipantSimple answer is yes but that will be very hard for you to feel. You will likely feel if you have too much Ackerman if the kart turns in very quickly or is darty on entry.
Gary LawsonParticipantWater is not good. Any moisture in the tire will result in more air pressure gain
Gary LawsonParticipantCheck pm
Gary LawsonParticipantYou do not want to buy a stock animal. You want a 206 and just change the coil and pipe if you want to run at Thompson since their rules are different from everyone else. You need s 206 to run everywhere else. I live mentor and have raced in this region for the past 20 years. Unfortunately I just sold my spare kart. I do know of a complete package available that was raced at Thompson last year. Pm me if you would like more info
Gary LawsonParticipantI am in total disagreement with Walt. It is perfectly acceptable and no one will be killed if you hang the hub off the axle. They are manufactured to hang off the end. Half or even a little more is meant hang off by design. You want to make sure the entire pinch bolt and a little more in on the axle and tight and you won’t have an issue.
Gary LawsonParticipantGps sold
Gary LawsonParticipantNot really. Kart was just stuck to the track and lost a lot more rpm in the corners. The soft tires had so much grip I could go full throttle through most corners while with the harder tires I could lift and it would still exit faster.
Gary LawsonParticipantI’ve had vega whites on a yamaha and went faster with a harder tire. Both sets were new. No doubt you can have too much grip
Gary LawsonParticipantI would guess it’s worth between 2-5 tenths at Pitt. If you want to have lower maintenance but some of the performance advantage just slip it a little lower. 8200 would last a long time. Just need to remember to lube the bushing with tri flow every session along with the chain. Another thing to be aware of is don’t start your engine until youre about to pull onto the track. Also, don’t abuse your clutch on the pace lap before the start. The majority of clutches get far more abuse in these instances than the do throughout a whole race.
Gary LawsonParticipantHalfway through the season at new castle
Gary LawsonParticipantI have a nice kart lift electric HD stand located in Cleveland. Not sure when you need it but I will be driving to new castle early summer.
Gary LawsonParticipantWka 206 375# and any shoe clutch
Gary LawsonParticipantSR-Y pipe should be 83-8700
Open pipe with s dry clutch you don’t want to slip over 10,000. 9600-9800 is reasonable
Gary LawsonParticipantWet clutches are heavier and don’t let the engines rev as easily. Just changing the clutch will increase your engine rpm which is an increase in mph.
The new style pipe doesn’t need slipped above 8600. Even 8400 would be enough and every little bit less you have it you will keep the heat down and last a lot longer. A 3 disc is unenecessary unless you are excessively heavy but their is no harm using one. The tomar is also great
Gary LawsonParticipantI love my intercomp digital. Not a fan of the longacre. It’s my tool I can’t go without.
Gary LawsonParticipantI think first think would be to go to a 40mm axle. They seem to recommend the 30mm for jr and light SR. I would personally have a 40 in it even in jr classes. It’s likely it’s simply flexing too much and got worse with the stickier tires. Most times ylcs are fastest when new but certain tracks in hot weather like them to be run in a little when using a low hp engine. I think any changes aside from the axle will have minimal positive effect until you change the axle.
Gary LawsonParticipantWhat tires are they? The first issue that comes to mind is using s 30mm axle in the sr class. Is also makes me question the kart. Is it a kart designed for sr weight? Typically softening the kart would be recommended to reduce grip, but this kart may be too soft already.
Oversteer on exit seems to be the opposite of having too much grip. Widening the rear would make that issue worse but it would help if the kart was actually too stuck.
Give me a little more of the whole story and I can give you some advice on how to correct it.Gary LawsonParticipantI have a used one off a kart. 40 shipped with filter.
Gary LawsonParticipantOne set left
Gary LawsonParticipantI saw a pic on another post. Never heard of it on my 20 years in the sport.
Gary LawsonParticipantI find it impossible that it could be that much heavier if it had the exact engine package. The only difference between that and mine is bigger tubing diameter but that isn’t even 5# I’d guess. My kart is fully lightened and is 153 with an animal on it. I’ve never seen any kart lighter. What year birel was it?
Gary LawsonParticipantI would keep that arrow you have Paul. You won’t find a better kart for 1500
