Clark Gaynor Sr.Participant
Nice to hear you guys are up and running again at a new facility. Does anyone have any on board videos they’d like to share.
Clark Gaynor Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantWalt, we ran a 15/60 which seemed about right. As you know Sandy Hook is real tight, so it was on the limiter about half way down the straight. But I also assume after a few more start showing up, lap times will start to drop as well as rear axle teeth! You know how that goes. My son is also 25 pounds over the 375 limit, so that wasn’t helping either.
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantGreat to hear folks. It’s about time someone gave the 206 program a chance here in the East! Unfortunately we’ll be a Sandy Hook that same Sunday with two of our own 206’s. It happens to be a Maryland Series Race, which we’d like to support. At their first event, we had the only one, but this time there should be at least three or four Sr 206’s.
I wish you folks the very best, and maybe in 2017 we can all get together and form a true 206 series of sorts.
Please let us all know how it went.
Clark Gaynor Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantThe spec filter hardly needs a support. They are TINY!
Though it’s probably illegal, we trimmed off the split piece on one of ours and stuck it back on. Works fine. I don’t know why I bothered, we have two new spares in the tool box! And I suppose if we were going to a race where somebody cares, we’d put a new one on!
Just sayen’
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantJust my two cents, I feel 219 is higher quality overall. It’s used very successfully on Tags which put out in excess of 27 HP. On the other hand, if you’re running 4 strokes, 35 is a better option. Most vendors who support 4 stroke events will have a variety of gears and chain for 35, not so much for 219. And of course, just the opposite for a 2 cycle race.
That being said, we run the highest quality 219 we can get on our Leopards, and RLV Xtreme on our 206’s. Never had an issue with the RLV product. It also breaks and goes back together very well with very little kinking.
Just my opinion obviously,
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantSorry, but that was for a Stock Honda. So I’d suspect add a tooth or two to the axle for the KZ. You might want to contact Phil Davis at CPI, he’ll know a lot more about your application then me.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantStart with 17/22 or equiv. and take it from there.
Clark Gaynor Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantMike, we had the same thing happen to one of ours. It’s seems to be a matter of over tightening the hose clamp. They fit very tight anyway, so just be very gentle with the screw driver!
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantThanks folks, I’m just curious what everyone thinks of running in the rain.
Thanks again for your input,
Clark Gaynor Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantI understand a few of the races ran in the rain? How did that go for everyone?
Clark Gaynor Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantDitto David, and congrates on the WKA Trustee position!!! Looking forward to working with you.
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantMike, it’s actually got both a kart track and a very interesting sports car course. Check out their website.
Clark.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantHere’s a video ad the WKC runs prior to our events. It’s put together by a friend of one of our board members. It’s shown on Comcast stations, trying to run the ads during appropriate racing events on TV, in and around the DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland areas. We really have no idea if it does much for attendance. But it certainly can’t hurt.

Road racing is a tough sell. At least two day events; not usually close to home; motel; food; fuel for the truck; high entry fees; etc; etc.
It’s a difficult problem.
Clark.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantRob, Greg asked earlier, is there any way you could post road race results as well? It would sure be appreciated.
Thanks,
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantSorry for the delay, but we just finalized our schedule a week ago!
Woodbridge Kart Club 2016
*May 7-8 Summit Point, Shenandoah Circuit.
*June 4-5 Summit Point.
*July 22-24 VIR, North Course. WKA National.
*August 27-28 Summit Point. WKA National.
*October 8-9 Summit Point.
The VIR and Summit Point August dates listed as nationals has to be approved by the WKA NRRC and Trustees, but I’m pretty sure those are good to go.
Take care and have fun at Daytona.
Clark Gaynor Sr.
WKC VP and Board Member.
WKA NRRC member.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantJohn, generally speaking, the less HP you have, the less stiffness you need. So a 40 mm axle will generally be less stiff then a 50. A 28mm frame less stiff then a 32.
The Euro folks are now making 4 cycle, low HP karts. The tend to be 28 mm frames with 40mm axles. I believe Margay makes one as well.
We put a 206 on an old Intrepid 32 mm X 50 mm axled shifter chassis! There was NOooooo way we could free it up enough!! We just put an older TopKart with a 28 mm frame and 40 mm axle together- haven’t run it yet. But I suspect it will be MUCH freer!!! I’ll let you know next year!
By the same token, it’s very unlikely a 28 mm frame would work well with a Stock Honda shifter either!
Hope that helps. But I’m sure someone with a lot more knowledge then me could better answer your question.
Clark Gaynor Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantI know, but my Son is running out of vacation and Bowling Green is a long ride!! We’d really like to be there. And as you know it’s a WKA and KART event, so I’d guess it will be pretty neat!
Oh well, maybe next year. I know there’s at least a couple WKC Leopards going, so I’m sure your Dad will have a good time!
Take care,
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantYa’ Chris, on the face of it, it looks crazy!! 79 classes!!! But in reality, WKA has something like 27 or so REAL classes. Kind of like SCCA. For instance, Stock Leopard Final 1 and Final 2. It’s actually one class which runs two races per event for a single year end championship. Let’s say there are 6 nationals during a season. Leopard would have 12 races counting toward the championship, not a Final 1 champion and final 2 champion.
But you’re right, there are still TOO many classes!!
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantAs Tim stated, there’s a spacer which replaces the C-clip (the C- clip which holds the clutch drum in place). Russell has them, and when you ask they’ll know exactly what you’re talking about. They also wear, so get 3 or 4 of them at least. You’ll need to change them a couple time a season.
Oh, and by the way, unless the bearing starts to loosen up, don’t change the clutch cover/third bearing support. It will still work just fine!
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.Participanthttp://www.mylaps.com/en/events/1156005
I think that’s the right one!!!!! I hope!!
David– by the way, the WKA Road Race Grand Nationals will be on Summit Point Main the last weekend in August. No better time then that to give Summit a try!!! You might even go home with one of WKA’s Funny Bird trophies!
You run Stock Leopard as I recall??!!!
See you in August??!!
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantCheck the reeds.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantOK, you’re going to really hate this, but go with the external starter and be done with it. We went through the same issues. Ours were always broken brushes or weak batteries. It’s a fine little 2 stroke motor, but the starter system just sucks!!!
We have two which we road race. A MY07 and a MY09 and they both would randomly go through the same problems. When we’re on the grid and the flag goes up, they MUST start! At this point all the starting components are in place, but the starters aren’t even plugged into the harness. And they really couldn’t care less how charged the battery is!
For $250 you can get a brand new Coleman with battery from any kart supply house or vendor, and it will start your Leopard EVERY time.
It’s just not worth the nonsense. Been there, done that!!! Like I said, great little motor, but I hate the starter!!!
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantShawn, there is a Woodbridge Kart Club road race this coming weekend at Summit Point Raceway, in Summit Point, WV. It will be on the Shenandoah circuit. There will be MANY shifters there and a few vendors/engine builders as well. You could bring your kart with you and have one of our shop guys look it over and get you headed in the right direction.
If you decide to attend and have a look around, look me up. Red trailer, white canopy, parked near the front, doing pre race safety tech.
Hope to see you Sat. or Sun.
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantSamir, you NEED to find someone at the tracks where you’re running to help you out. There must be folks there who are familiar with Leopards that can look over your equipment and figure out your issues very quickly. Helping you over a forum is really tough! Better yet, at some point you’re going to need an engine builder to rebuild your engine. Find one now, and ask for his help. We would all like to help here on ekarting, but another competitor or engine guy can fix all your problems in minutes and head you in the right direction.
I know that didn’t help, but I suspect others will agree.
Have fun.
Clark Sr.
Clark Gaynor Sr.ParticipantHold on there Steve, we’re allowed to do both, right??!!:)
We actually road race Leopards with the WKA / WKC, AND sprint race a Sportsman Pro Gas (from BRE by the way) and LO206 locally. But I will say the appeal of the 206 is undeniable. Simplicity at it’s best!!!!
