Freddy I’d love to, but we road race so it’s a whole different deal.  I get a kick out of running with the kids!!!  I’m getting a little too old (69) to be running a shifter or Tag anymore, so a 206 is right up my ally;)

As Eric noted, check out the Championship Enduro Series (CES), DART Kart Club, KART, and the World Karting Assoc.  All are, or have road race series.

We road race with WKA and the Woodbridge Kart Club, so we’re a bit further East.  But it might be worth checking with CPI (Phil Davis, Pa.) or Fisher Racing Engines (Brian Fisher, Tx.) for chassis’ and motors.

As Eric also stated, Stock Honda’s are very popular in some areas, but the KZ (ICC) engines are getting a little more popular here in the East.

Hope that gives you a start, and welcome back,

We road race an X30, and Brian Fisher our engine builder has always recommended Motul 2T.  Works great.  We used it in our Stock Honda’s for years as well with equally good results.

I know what you mean Freddy.  Even in road racing too many karts gets nuts.  My Son use to run a Stock Honda, and both he and I ran Leopards.  Now he runs an X30 in IAME Sprint and we both run CIK LO206 Sprints.  Wow, what a difference.

Change the oil each day with the 206’s and oil the chain!!  That’s it.  Maybe check the tire pressure before the race;)  That way we can concentrate on the X30.

That’s also the reason we’re trying to get the CIK LO206 class going in road racing…they are SO easy.

I’ll just throw this out there, have you new folks considered road racing?   Karts on sports car tracks, eg: Daytona, MidOhio, Summit Point, Kershaw, AMP, Roebling Road, VIR, etc.

On a road course, a Tag is much less punishing than on a sprint track, AND there are a bunch of them running with the Woodbridge Kart Club.  Also, there are about three of us getting the CIK LO206 Sprint class going, which is a road race class with the World Karting Assoc.  They’re pretty slow on a big track, but they are a LOT of fun, very little work and they don’t bust up equipment.

The WKC is having a race at Summit Point, August 26th and 27th.  If you’re interested, stop by and check it out.  The WKC has five events per year, two of which are WKA Nationals.  I realize Summit Point, West Virginia isn’t as close as Englishtown, but it might be of interest.

If you do stop by in a few weeks, please look me up and I’ll give you the cooks tour of road racing.  Also check out the Woodbridge Kart Club and the World Karting Association websites.

Have fun in your research into the world of kart racing,

I honestly haven’t seen a chain oiler in years.  What we use on our X30 in road racing is “RK, O-ring chain” and “Xeramic Synthetic Chain Spray”.  Holds up very well, but you WILL wear chains and sprockets out no matter what you use.  Also check your alignment, and oil the chain after EVERY track session.

First of all———-keep your kart OFF the streets!!!  You’re giving EVERYONE on this site and kart racing in general a BAD name!

I doubt anyone will help you!  Take the kart to a kart track.

Good oil of any kind is pricey.  We personally run the Amsoil/Briggs 4T in our two 206’s as well.  We also road race them, so they’re getting a good workout every time they’re on the track.  As a note, we also use Motul 2T in our X30…works great, burns clean, lubs great, and they don’t give that away either $$$!!!

There’s another forum on Bob’s four cycle page where this kind of info is discussed at length, including several engine builders.  They all agree that you can’t go wrong with the Amsoil 4T.  Though some folks do run different oils, they are all of very high quality.

The logic is it’s developed for high temperature (air cooled motors run hot) with a splash oiling system (rod/crank slap the oil at the bottom of the stoke creating some sort of crazy splashing mess).  Automotive oils don’t see those kind of conditions and may foam which cuts they’re lubricating ability.  I’m no expert, but it makes sense to me.

I know what you mean though, you change the oil and it comes out looking almost new!  Every time you feel like you’re throwing away 7 or 8 bucks!!  I get it, but compared to all the other expenses associated with this sport, why save pennies.  I’m sure Mobil 1 might work fine, but you’re only saving a couple bucks per change.

Like I said, I am no oil expert, but following your engine builders recommendations is usually a good idea.

    Have fun,

There were 4 or 5 Clone/LO206 Heavy karts and I believe only 1 Lite.

I can only speak about the CIK/LO206 Sprint class.  I was the only one signed in, so I actually didn’t run during the actual race groups…only practice.  As a note, our Son Clark Jr also has one, but for only he and I to race would be silly.  We’d just spend a half hour messing around and not really racing!!!  It’s a father son thing!  ;>

We did run practice together and did notice the karts were almost spooky equal.  For those who have ever run a shifter or Tag and are aware of how well they draft….you should see these things!!!  We literally could draft by at will, often several times during one trip down the main straight!   Side by side through turns, draft by between every turn.  Pretty cool!

If this class ever takes off in road racing—–it will be nuts!!  Even a 69 year old can drive one well, VERY low maintenance, they sip pump gas, don’t eat tires, top out at about 70 on the limiter, avg 61 around Summit, draft better then anything I’ve ever raced, and at the end of a race day…change the oil and have a beer!

I’m pretty sure some of the folks from down South are planning on coming to VIR to run the CIK class.  Should be a hoot!  And for what it’s worth, if you have an old CIK chassis laying around, for less then a grand you can buy a “complete” LO206 setup ready to bolt on!

    Pretty neat,

    Clark Sr.

Ditto what Freddy said on axle gears, but we go up to 66 or so. Get one of everything and a spare chain.  Sprint racing we run 15 drivers, but my Son and I also road race.  For that we run 21 tooth drivers.

I’m not sure what the exact story is, but I believe it has to do with the scoring computer.  The results are stored, but not immediately available.

That’s honestly all I know, but I will drop the WKC bod an email right away.

Steve, other than the bodywork, the seats have to be in a more upright position (likely the way your Margay already is).  Double rear bumper, which extends out to at least the mid point of the rear tires.  They are generally a bit wider.  Usually 50″ minimum and 55 1/8″ max. across the outside of the rear tires (although 4 cycle sprint racing allows them to be much narrower).  Many rules set require specific size and/or size and brand tires.  For instance WKA requires 4.50 x 5 fronts; 7.10 x 5 rears, Bridgestone “C’s”.

May I strongly suggest, before you spend a bunch of time and money on your older kart, go to a track or two and have a look.  There are many older karts out there that can be had at a very reasonable price.  That may be a better deal then upgrading yours.  Check the classified ads on this site, and there is a LO206 Facebook page as well.

I noticed you live near Fredricksburg, Va.  If that’s the case, the Woodbridge Kart Club is holding a road race event at Summit Point on Apr. 29th and 30th in Summit Point W.Va.  We’ll be on the Shenandoah circuit if  you’re interested.  There will be a lot of CIK chassis there for you to look over.  In fact we will have two WKA legal CIK chassis’ with LO206’s on them.  You are more then welcome to stop by and look them over and ask any questions you may have.  If you do decide to stop by, please look us up.  Most folks at this event will know where the Gaynor’s are pitted.

I like the idea for several reasons.

First from my standpoint, I’m a little older (68) and laying down in a kart seat just will NOT work for my old neck.  So the sit up seats are my only option.

It brings our 4 cycle sprint racing more in line with what the rest of the planet runs, eg: CIK style/homologated chassis’ and body work.  Including our Canadian neighbors. I also believe our west coast folks generally run CIK style karts in 4 cycle sprint racing as well.

There are a ton of used Tag and Yamaha sprint karts out there which can be had very economically.  Many allow mounting a LO206/Animal with no problem at all, and seem to work pretty well.

I realize many who currently have American style body work won’t like it, but I also remember road racing 125 shifters back in the early 2000’s.  Everybody ran the big nose, lay down seats, and narrowed the thing up so much they weren’t fun to drive.  Then they started the CIK body work, sit up seats, and 50 inch minimum rear width class— and EVERYBODY loved it!  No more nonsense with crazy bodywork, uncomfortable seats and hacked off rear axles!  Just take your sprint 125 off the sprint track and change the gear and go!

NOW, WKA have CIK LO206 in ManCup, Gold Cup AND Road Racing!

I like it…….. we sprint race AND road race.

Unfortunately the WKC will NOT be going back to NJMP in 2017.  The facility is just too costly for the anticipated number of entries.  There is no way an organization should take an event with little hope of breaking even.

    Sorry for the bad news,
