Kevin the idea of switching from an air cooled 4 stroke to a water cooled 2 stroke may not be practical. You might be better off getting a good 4 stroke package get some seat time then think about a TAG kart. Take a look at this http://www.tsracing.com/store/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Product_ID=6834&CATID=33

It looks like a good deal on a new Coyote chassis with a new Briggs Animal ready to go. It’s got Veloce graphics on it but so what that will just confuse everyone which is always fun. TS is a reputable outfit and it looks like they will make a deal on shipping!!!!

It is part of the cost of doing bussiness. That customer with the lost prop ordered a boat from us a year later in part because we did the right thing with the prop. Doing the honerable thing always pays off in the long run Plus it makes it easier to face the guy in the mirror.

Pete In my case I was the shipper. I shipped a customer a $3500 propeller I forgot to add the insurance and UPS lost it. How you lose a 120Lb prop is beyond me but that’s what happened. So I shipped the customer another prop no charge UPS eventually gave me the $1000 included insurance I licked my wounds and called it a day.

There is no mystery here the builder is responsible. Ask him how he would react if you shipped the engine un insured and it got lost on the way to his shop and you were expecting him to pay for it?

I build boats for a living. We use a lot of control cables most of the paddle shifters I’ve seen use a Morse marine style cable. There are different grades Standard and Teflon. The Teflon is better but the most important thing is the geometry of the linkage. The system needs to be set up to use the full travel of the cable which is normally around 3″. If you don’t do that then your putting a higher load on the cable and your exaggerating the effect of the play in the cable. The right cable in good condition with the right geometry will shift fine.

I’ve been down this road. The builder shipped it under his acount. Leagaly the builder included shipping the engine back to you as part of the job you paid him for. Legaly the builder is your shipping company and resposible for your engine untill you get it back. Your re course is whith the builder.

You might be able to add the egt sensor then wire with a double pole double throw switch. Then you could switch from H20 to EGT but not read both at the same time.

I’m not sure about other states but here in FL small claims court is not expensive or complicated and no lawyers need to be involved. You generaly sue for what’s owed to you plus the court fees. Often just serving the deadbeat gets you paid.

It might having something to do with a bad economy but there’s definitely been a shift in attitude over the last 30 years and it’s gotten much worse in the last 5. Years ago you had deadbeats on the consumer side but business to business deadbeats were rare. Most wouldn’t let it happen because you understood what it was like to get stiffed and you didn’t do it to someone else. Today it’s more acceptable. The workplace today is much safer than it was 30 years ago but disability claims are up 40%. Half of the people in this country are getting some sort of Gov. subsidy. Food stamps are at an all time high. People buy homes they can’t afford and when the economy tanks it’s the lenders fault. I grew up poor but my dad would have slit his wrists before taking the Gov. cheese. That was reserved for the woman with kids who’s husband died of a heart attack and she needed a year to sort it out. Disability was for the person stricken to a wheel chair not a guy with a soar back and a good lawyer. In this environment it’s much easier to rationalize not paying your bills. Today we glorify the takers and vilify the makers.

I don’t want to sound like some bitter guy ranting about the good old days because I’m not. Things are good today and most people still have a sense of honor and pride. I’m not sure if that will be the case 20 years down the road.

And I envision a wet behind the ears kid, with no manners nor proper up bringing.

I’d appreciate ending the name calling now. If you have something to add to the discussion present it. I’ve probably been on this board and it’s predecessor since before you were born.

I suspect my irrational thoughts have even had some input into the way, the front end of the kart you ride today is designed.
Your priceless I passed kid long before the Internet or any forum even existed. If you had enough sense to be relevant you’d click on a profile before commenting and if you had proper up bringing and manners you wouldn’t hijack a new comers thread with pages of crap that add up to nothing but an opourtunity for you to hear yourself talk or read your own writing.

Now I wrote this after I took a dump but before I had my coffee and I didn’t re read it so it might be BLA BLA BLA.

Are you just yanking everyones chain or could you really be this much of a wing nut?

One thing I rarely hear talked about is how to accelerate. Beginners tend to stomp on the throttle at the apex. All carbureted engines will accelerate faster with a more gradual opening of the throttle the slower the speed at the apex the more gradual it should be. Slamming the throttle open lifts the metering rod from the main jet making more fuel available the problem is that it also lowers the vacuum which makes it impossible to pull the fuel in until the RPM comes up. When it’s extreme you feel the engine bog but it still may be happening even though you don’t feel it. Lowering the connection point of the throttle on the pedal and putting it closer to the pedal pivot point gives the pedal more throw and makes it easier to control the throttle. This works great with some beginners.

Give him enough seat time in a shifter on track days and you won’t have to ask if he’s ready you’ll know. Make sure you know before you let him compete. He’s got plenty of time no reason to rush it. BTW my son is 13 and runs a DD2 and an Aixro and he’s fine with it but running and racing are 2 diffrent things.

First remove the rear bar. Still tight Try increasing the front width . If it’s still tight bring the rear width out to 55″. Still tight add caster. Still tight put everything back to neutral and weigh the kart.

Your his dad so you know his capabilities better than anyone on this forum. You have doubt or you wouldn’t be asking. If your not sure then don’t. Or get him enough seat time on practice days to eliminate your doubt.
