If it’s a flat bottom seat the gives you the proper angle and you can easily manupilate it to get the position you want. Generaly as close to the engine as possible then 7 1/4″ from the front of the axle to an area alongide the rear spline of the seat move the ruler up and down 7 1/4″ should be the shortest measurement. Then mearure front the front ear of the seat to the kingpins. the left should be a 1/4″ to 1/2″ shorter than the right. I would put both stays in place you can always loosen one if you need to.

Brian DegulisParticipantYour old seat looks like it’s turned to the right to much. Seat mounting is critical for performance and avoiding injury. Most kart manufacturers have dimensions but they don’t factor in seat size or shape. Without that the OEM dimensions are useless. This is the best guide I’ve found on seat mounting http://www.internationalkarting.com.au/files/TILLETT_DATA/TILLETT_Seat_Positioning_Text_by_Steve_Tillett.pdf

Brian DegulisParticipantYes still available and in Palmetto FL.
No not interested in selling engine alone
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipantBoging and high RPM at idle sounds like your losing fuel and running lean. Check your fuel system from tank to carb.

Brian DegulisParticipantNo I’m not sure as I said I drove an Atom and couldn’t make the times I make in my car but the Atom was new to me and I have no idea how well it was set up. It had the power but didn’t handle as well snap over steer is a common problem with them. I went with a Stalker because it’s built right here in FL Costs less than an atom and uses common components that I can get at the local auto parts store.
With an LS3 @ 480 HP in a 1700 lbs car it’s got power 0 to 60 in around 2.9 seconds. Very low profile open car with good suspension it sticks better than most mass produced cars and it doesn’t cost a fortune to keep it running. I TM KZ10B with factory prep is $7300. An LS3 crate engine is $7200. The 480HP v8 costs less than the kart engine makes you wonder?
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipantI eat Miata’s, Porche’s, non track prepared Ferrari’s and all the American brands on track days with a car that cost under $45,000 new. I’ve not yet come up against an Atom but I drove one and I think the Stalker will eat that also.
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipanthttp://stalkercars.com/ I race one. The Gs HP to weight ratio and general driving experience are very close to a shifter kart.
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipantIt’s probably not made so you’ll have to make it. Take your gear and get a machine shop to cut it down then make a spindle and weld a 428 sprocket to it. I had to do that when I put together a CRF 450 Kart.
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipantStill available All the right stuff competitive kart with 2 hours use for less than half the price of new.

Brian DegulisParticipantFirst you take all the threads posts and comments acumulated over 10 years all the stuff that posters took the time to think about , put into words and create threads or reponses and you throw it all into an archive to die.
Then you make all the members sign up all over again. At first the process is clumsy and frustrating.
Then you make posting photos a mystery obvisouly it still is to some and it is not the same or as easy as the old forum.
Then somehow you make difficult or impossible to copy and paste without turning your post into some that looks like a secret code.
So some get frustrated and walk away. Then some that aren’t frustrated get bored from the lack of content and walk away and so begins the death spiral.
WAKE UP it’s not social media or the time of year or the economy and people didn’t suddenly decide to stop talking and just read. Who ever decided to make the switch in the manner it was done knowingly or not came up with the perfect formula to kill a forum.

August 7, 2014 at 5:46 am in reply to: OTK Fernando Alonso Kart, very bouncy, hopping, Please help #31622Brian DegulisParticipantMy kid went from a DR to a Tonykart and had the same problem. It was driving. He had to get used to less wheel input in the Tonykart. If you have a Gopro you’ll be able to see it if that’s the problem.
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipantWalt The clearance between the pads and caliper is less when the brakes heat up. If the rod is adjusted to tight then you may have clearance when the brakes are cold but no clearance when they heat up. Then they drag and get hotter and close even more.
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipantIt sounds like the caliper is not releasing. Check the adjustment of the rod between the pedal and master cylinder. Make sure the rod is adjusted properly and allows the lever on the master cylinder to come all the way into the release position.
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipantAustin use the rib vest. If you bruise your ribs you’ll be 4-5 weeks of no karting.
Brian
Brian DegulisParticipant11,750 is where the engine is capable of producing the most HP. That doesn’t mean that it is producing max HP on the kart. It probably isn’t because the kart is moving at a pretty good speed and in low gear it probably doesn’t require max HP to make that speed. Idealy you should shift at an RPM that puts you at 11,750 after you go into high gear. At that point your in a lower gear and the kart is accelerating so the engine is fully loaded and producing all the HP it’s capable of at that RPM. It may not be possible to get to a high enough RPM to be at 11,750 after going into high gear so you probably want to shift at the higest RPM you can to come as close as possible. I had a DD2 and shifted around 13,000.
