Chris, the survey Lynn was taking and the question I asked was about the 60 kart Tag Senior field at Skusa Summer Nationals. The numbers he gave were for that field, not your shifter class. I have no idea what the weight is for your class and those numbers aren’t from your class, so who is misrepresenting data here? The average amount of lead bolted onto a tag senior kart is 35 pounds. Nobody is saying the weight should be reduced by 35 pounds, that would start excluding people. However, reducing the weight by 10-15 pounds is reasonable with little to no affect. The Yamaha classes in WKA and USPKS are likewise too heavy. I believe Yamaha senior is running at 360 pounds! The majority of the kids racing in rookie and sportsman have lead bolted all over their seats. I have no idea what the average weight on any of the shifter class is, but if it is 35 pounds, then I would think most think that is too high.
I think I work pretty hard and smart.

Oh my God. Bodywork doesn’t need to come off the karts, lead weight does!!! Average amount of weight in a 60 kart field is 34.33 pounds. Weight of class could be reduced by 15 pounds and affect 4 people.

Not to hijack your thread but, I believe you were asking all the Tag Senior drivers at Skusa Summer Nationals how much weight was on their karts. Just wondering if you could fill me in on those results. Interested to know how many had no weight on kart, how many had less then 15 pounds, what was average. Hoping you were compiling information with thoughts of reducing the weight in the future.

At 5′ 11″ and 140 pounds, my son was too small to even play High School football. Yours is too heavy to WIN a National level race. Life goes on.

It’s always amazing to me how people love to bash Rotax. IAME comes out with a completely new engine, the X30 and nobody complains. They show up at the various TAG races with both the Leopard and X30. Many have more then one of both. SKUSA will be eliminating the Leopard in 2016, USPKS will likely follow suit. Then we can all scrap all the Leopard engines we own. ROC is just getting started over here and they have just introduced their new direct drive engine. Is it inconceivable that ROC Cup will soon be direct drive? I believe I heard or read somewhere that Rotax would come out with an upgrade package of Carb, wiring harness, power valve and coil for around $500? Whatever it is, it will be far cheaper then buying a whole new engine. I can’t think of any reason the current engine with the EVO upgrade package wouldn’t be just as fast as the EVO. They haven’t changed the bore, stroke, cylinder or head to my knowledge.

I would suggest that you contact the person who sold you that chassis because the Birel RY30-S4 chassis is supposed to come with the zero pill that you have on the bottom, and the .5 adjustable pill on the top. As you have already found out, Birel makes the adjustable pills in .5 and 1.5 offsets and you can combine them to get various degrees of caster. The pills that you have are both zero pills and you can’t get any adjustment of caster or camber with them. The person who sold you the kart kept the adjustable pill so he could put it on the bottom of his kart would be my best guess.

The reason we use pin gauges is because the jets as marked are pretty far off. A jet marked 158 can be larger then one marked 160 for example. So say you are running a 160 jet, you read your plug/exhaust and decide to go a little leaner. So you throw in a 158 and it is actually larger. The pin gauges eliminate that. I size all my jets and pay no attention to what is marked on them.
