That class (classes really, Yamaha Senior and Yamaha Masters) has grown on it’s own the last few seasons. I think the expense of TaG sent a lot of racers looking for a affordable alternative.

There is no magic formula to the success of the KRA club, there is a lot of stability in the classes we offer and we don’t try to fix things that aren’t broke. I see a lot of series jump from new class to new class and when you do that it makes it hard for the racer to justify buying all new equipment every couple years.

Most of the new classes just take the place of a class that is already offered as well, so you cannibalize one class just to add another. When you go from 20 karts in a class to 8 each in the new and old class you see both classes fail a lot of the time.

They had 3 pipe karts at the last race last year and the trend the entire season was DOWN. The last can WKA race was at NCMP 2 years ago and they had around 20. The very next season they switched to pipe and the class slowly faded. USPKS has had can every season and the class continues to have strong participation.

I could look up the entry numbers but I also go to all these races so I see it first hand. The pipe just doesn’t bring the entries and the can does.

USPKS helped address a lot of the issues that karters had with WKA at the time. More track time, time certain schedule, live practice timing, more racing, fewer classes and the racers noticed. WKA followed suit and overhauled their format to make it more racer friendly.

I was at the WKA and USPKS races at Mooresville the last two weekends and I think both series are doing a great job for the racer. I can only hope that the competition between series will only help improve the series for the racer.

Saturday Night Lightning was a great series for karting. Most of the races were broadcast live on ESPN2. I think it ran from 1994 to either 95 or 96. That was purely about racing and not a “reality” TV series.

When the whole “hang the hub off the end of the axle” thing became popular in karting I thought there was no way this is right but we have been running like that for years and I have never lost a hub assembly off the axle.

The funny thing is *if* the hub is left loose or the pinch bolt breaks the hub moves in and not out which seems crazy but has always been my experience.

My rule of thumb is never let the pinch bolt be closer than a 1/4″ or so from the axle end like Gary said. Always have axle under the entire pinch bolt plus a little extra axle and tighten it down.

The only time I ever see a wheel come off is when someone leaves the 3 hub bolts loose and that’s definitely a big no-no.

You should be able to buy a kart and an engine and race it at any sprint track in the USA with dozens of competitors in the class. Until the rules are standardized and organizations can get along this won’t happen and karting will be in the funk we currently see it in. Too many egos and politics. It’s currently a race to the bottom from what I can tell.

News to me. I haven’t seen anyone lay down mega laps in the first lap or two of a race that takes everyone else another 5-6 laps to reach. That’s usually a pretty good sign something is going on. I thought the races at the front this year were pretty even across multiple drivers/karts/teams/engine builders.

They work great and definitely help maintain the resale value of the kart. I recommend them. The short style work well and they long style work well. I think it’s personal preference and also how concerned you are about scraping up the bottom.

I have to agree, the new forum software isn’t user friendly. After I hit log-in to post this comment I had to click all the way back through the forums just to post this since the log-in is on a different page. Why can’t I just log-in right from the forum page? Little stuff adds up to, “screw it” for a lot of people. I think the main points have all been hit, it isn’t FB and Twitter, it’s the UI here.

The seals under the reservoir caps. They can vacuum down so even if you remove the caps the system is still sealed until you pull them off.

I’d pull the caps and rubber seals, pump the brakes a few times and see if that fixes your problem. Personally I like to bleed the system with a bleed tower from the master cylinder.

Did you remove the two big reservoir caps and the rubber seal? Sounds like it is vacuum locked.

I think the LO206 is a step in the right direction for karting, especially for the club level. I think Briggs finally has a package to replace the Flathead. I think a lot of people underestimate how much losing the Flathead hurt karting. It was inexpensive, they were everywhere, you could race them at almost every sprint track and it was a very easy way to get into karting and to stay in karting. I hope it doesn’t get screwed up by “updates”, rules creep and tech shenanigans.
