Okay.. New pics! I found a few things in the process of popping it off the kart. The bottom of the motor on the drive side says Mac (perhaps Mac Minerelli?), and the front says 330 (but that doesn’t seem to turn up much on ye olde Google). It’s a reed valve motor and the carb is a Tillotson HL-334A.
Drive Side.. Yes it was direct-drive

I tried to get some pics last night but the kart is standing up on its back bumper and I didn’t really have time to set it down and get the motor removed for proper pics. Should get it done today. The other motor looks like a JICA to me.. It already got torn down so I don’t have pics of it. Will get some of that as well.

Yeah I’ll grab some better pics tonight. I snagged that pic the other day and we’ve been out of town. I didn’t even have time to pop off the side cover and see what kind of clutch it had.. Or if it’s direct drive, which it may be since there’s not a starter hole in there…

Try Greyhound. If you have depots near the origin and destination, it can be a decent option. They have size restrictions that might mean you have to pull off wheels, nerfs, etc, and fasten them to the chassis somehow, but I know a lot of folks that have shipped some pretty big things that way, and the prices were reasonable (maybe $100-$200) tops.

We’ve had very good luck with the Stinger shoe/drum clutches on clones.. They hook up well, are relatively cheap compared to disc clutches, easy to work on, etc. Our club mandates them for junior clones and also for our Senior “sportsman” class. They seem to run forever – I’m paranoid, so I tear ours down and clean them monthly during race season and rarely have much buildup/glazing on them.
I’ve also heard good things about the Mongrel, although those were on lower HP and weight junior karts, so I can’t say how they would work on a senior setup.
