Finally got back on the track yesterday. I rotated my airbox so the holes faced outward instead of toward my leg. Made 3 10 lap runs and it never stumbled. So this problem had to have been created by my leg covering the airbox holes.

I use the 360 and don’t find it uncomfortable or limiting, I barely even notice its on when driving. I prefer it over a foam collar. The foam collars are usually too tall and bulky for me and make it hard to turn my head or have any movement.. but they obviously aren’t strong enough to hold your head in a good position in a violent crash.
The only thing I don’t like about the 360 is the locking mechanism. It likes to spin around and you kind of have to stuck your thumb it in to hold it still to unlock or lock it. Very minor annoyance. Can’t beat the price vs the Leatt.

Mike, another EKN member messaged me today and said that the low speed needle might need to be set richer (maybe an 1/8 turn more). He said the engine can start to run leaner as it heats up so that might by why the problem that I have only occurs after I’ve driven for about 5 minutes. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get to the track to try different things yet but I should be on track this Friday. I’ll let everyone know if anything works.

Thanks Gary. You might be right about the airbox. I’ve heard that issue mentioned before and it never even crossed my mind that it could be what my problem is too. Maybe I lay my leg down a bit more after 5 laps. I do know that the airbox holes are pointed towards my leg a bit. Hope that is the problem, simple fix :)
I’ll check on that pickup tube too. It’s been on the kart since I bought it in October.

Tim, its funny you mentioned that because I had the same exact issue in our 2nd race of the season lol. That was just a case of me being a noob and not checking my bearing set screws. Had a few of them fall out and the axle shifted and rotor started rubbing the brake pads. That was more of a gradual feeling though and it bogged the engine down. This new issue with left turns its like the engine completely shuts off for a split second.

The “classic” style forum would work perfect on a smartphone with the right theme.. which many are available for free. This one is alright, but nowhere near as good as the old forum was.
Switching forum software should not have been a financial decision. phpBB, which is what the old forum software was, is completely free. The old forum used an older version of phpBB and if I remember correctly its been said there was some reason the old forum could not be upgraded to the latest version of phpBB. Even so, they still could have created a brand new install of phpBB.

Taking off the bumpers just to stop people from bumping sounds like a terrible idea to me.
Evan, you say landing on your head would be a teaching a lesson. What about someone who drives clean and just happens to get caught up in something? I don’t think that person is being taught a lesson. All that person is getting is a trip to the ambulance.
I’m not a fan of anything that makes it easier to go upside down. This no bumpers thing just sounds awful to me. IMO its like saying F1 needs to go back to the cars they raced in the 60’s because everyone raced with more respect. Respect didn’t stop anyone from dying.

I’ve been meaning to ask a similar question. My front tires had a line of rubber like that, but it was on the outside edge of the tire. What does that mean in terms of handling and and setup? I only have 1 career race so far, so I’m still a newbie. Does that most likely mean I have a setup that is understeering? Too much negative camber, or not enough?

I’m still trying to figure out how the style of racing a WoO car and a kart translate. I see no similarities other than going fast LOL.
My opinion is if you have to mentally think about your corners as 3 or 4 separate things you’re going to be slow just because you’re doing too much thinking and not enough driving based on feel. IMO I think its best to keep it simple. Get on the track and follow someone. If they are faster than you going into the corner, try driving in deeper. If they are faster than you off the corner try getting on the throttle sooner or braking earlier to be able to apply throttle sooner.
Its really all about muscle memory just like any other sport/activity. You don’t throw a great curveball by thinking about every single little thing in your wind-up or your grip on the baseball during every pitch. You throw a great curveball by practicing over and over and over and eventually perfecting the small details.
More practice, more trial and error, less thinking.

Thanks Walt!
Is there any way to be able to tell if I should have the stall speed at something like 8500 vs 8800? I’m just not sure how I determine where it should be set if I don’t have a dyno sheet that shows max torque. Is that something that can be obtained via RPM data in something like RaceStudio? Or is it based more on the feel of acceleration while driving? When I look at my RPM data I see a fairly small flatline around 8200 RPM before the RPMs start to go up. This happens in the slowest corner on the track.

Thanks guys. I think I’ll stick with the circlips. Now what happens if I break a bolt? I can’t find bolts with that groove in them anywhere..
