      Bill,

I always have the crank bearing surfaces polished so there is a slip fit between the crank and the main bearings.  This ensures easy assembly and disassembly without a special tool.

There is a special Honda tool, but I don’t have one and have never used one.

      Cheers,

      Bill Pyles

Your assessment is consistent with what I have heard.  I was at Indy running a Honda in shifter masters and my buddy Mark Nagy had one of the fastest Modena’s out there.  (I think I was 3rd fastest Honda)  Anyway, Mark stuck because the axle moved over and the water pump belt came off with two laps to go in the final running for the lead, so that was not strictly speaking a weakness failure.  I decided to order a Modena from Brian Fisher and have him build the motor, as I have been very pleased with his work on my Hondas.  I’ll check out KartPulse.

If you are in Southern CA, you might check out racing in Arizona with ProAutosports.com.  Karts run the same race weekends as the cars on several tracks in the Phoenix area at Wild Horse Pass Raceway.  We also run Memorial Day and Labor Day at Inde Motorsports Park in Willcox, AZ.  We don’t race June, July and Aug due to the heat, but we race once per month Sep-May.

      Robert,

Bill Pyles from AZ here. Considering the Grattan track day for both days. What is the status at this point? Are we going to run both days wx permitting?

      Thanks,

      Bill

The entry fees for a day comprising three 20 minute sessions and one 20 minute race are about $145.  The practice sessions are all qualifying sessions and we grid for the race in a two by two configuration  for a rolling start, based on our qualifying times.  Once per year our race is one hour and the same fee applies.  You have to be tidy, because the shifters are running at the same time as the world formulas.

George was kind and just loved being around racers.  I believe my 15 year old stole a ride or two in his kart.  Hard to believe George left us so early.

Best kept secret in Arizona is that for several years, road racers, under the management of Benn Herr, have raced with car club ProAutosports at the former Firebird Raceway near Phoenix that has 4 different road courses!  The car club has several groups and the karts are just another group, treated equally.  We also race twice a year at Inde Motorsports in Willcox, AZ.  All karts run together in 4, 20 minute sessions per race day, with the last session being the race.  The classes run together, but are scored separately.  We have 250 sprint, 125 stock Honda, 125 sprint modified, and World Formula.  we would score TAGs if they showed up.  A big weekend is 40 karts, but we have a blast, and most of us drive less than 40 minutes to the tracks.

Lesson—kart clubs should look for opportunites to partner with car clubs.
