stuhayner@aol.comStu HaynerParticipantThe Cal State Championship was a Sat/Sun event is why it looked like so many classes. It was an enjoyable race to be in and to watch. It had a few glitches, but over all – a great event.
I know that there were some good drivers holding out to see the class sizes (as they always do) and some less experienced guys thinking it would be over their head. I believe you’ll see double the entrees next year.
Let’s hope so! CSC is a good event for pros and amateurs alike.
Stu HaynerParticipantJohn,
I have a brand new set of UNICO in silver and a set of very nice used set in yellow. I also have a (mounted only) new set of black that I can switch around if you prefer those.

You’ve just bought one of the easiest and lowest maintenance cost engines in karting.
If the engine is sound now – it should be good all year w/o much, if any maintenance.
If you don’t know how many hours on it – have an engine builder look at it.
If you’re going to leave it sit over the winter and you can’t bring it inside, put a little Marvel Mystery oil thru the carb as it’s running – shut off – then put a teaspoon of MMO in the spark plug hole. Run the cylinder up and down a few strokes – then bag it in plastic. Moisture will hurt any engine if it’s not well lubed.
If you need ANYTHING for the engine, give me a shout. I have bins of new and good used parts for the HPV. That engine is 95% of what we run out here in the F100 series.

I know it’s a long way from Michigan, but shipping is less than driving these days.
Send your engines to Jesus @ P1 racing engines. You will not be disappointed.

“KPV is the best speed for the money and can be competitive without many short term rebuilds. Clutch is bullet proof. Speed is fast.”
I agree with you Mike. Even though not everyone thinks so, there’s a bunch of drivers in SoCal that do, which is why the F100 series is still growing at a rapid pace. F100 is 95% KT100’s and HPV/KPV engines. Close racing – low cost – fun.
Isn’t that what club level karting should be?
F100 isn’t the largest series around SoCal (only 3 yrs), but when you have over 60 drivers all with the same equipment – challenging for the podium – I’m not sure why.
If you agree with Mike P, make some calls – get everyone that has a 100cc engine to make a class at your local club.
Read the F100karting.com rules – they make sense. Is F100 a stepping stone to NASCAR and Formula One – Not at all.

I’ve raced them all, but 25-35 100cc racers heading into turn one still makes me smile.
F100karters has 11 races scheduled here in SoCal. If I have a little strength left in me, TAG Senior at LAKC.

October 1, 2014 at 9:17 am in reply to: dumb question of the day! tony kart evr 125 shifter used for tag?? #34733Stu HaynerParticipantI just heard this quote last weekend at the Lancaster Grand Prix.
“Birel brakes are to stop you – OTK brakes are to slow you down”
Personally, I like the confidence that I will be able to stop, and train my left foot to modulate so I don’t over slow the kart.
It’s sort of like the auto manufactures designing cars to push, so some drivers don’t spin out.
It is all preference.
Stu HaynerParticipantWayne,
It sounds like you’re getting ready to drive the next F100 race at Willow Springs in a couple of weeks. (Oct 4). If that is correct, Welcome!!
I have quite a few 11t drums – and some 10t drums as well. New and used.
Give me a call Mon – Fri at 714 928-5278 or text me at 714 305-6123. I can ship you what you need or I can bring them along to the F100 race.
If there’s anything else you need before the race, please give me a call.

Call Jim Russell jr. He is a wealth of knowledge and will walk you thru it. In fact, you can send your harness to him and he can repair it for a very reasonable price.

Stu HaynerParticipantOVRP is a fun track. It is a little rough, but what tracks aren’t?
They are a very nice family that runs it, (at least to me in my 4-5 times there) and Tim gives the very best drivers meeting since I’ve been racing (a VERY long time).
Don’t miss the opportunity to go there and play.
I’ve run a few different engine combos there, and I may be off base, but it seems that I ran an 11/84 on the Leopard.
Have fun – nice place!
Stu HaynerParticipantBrad,
Where are you located? If in SoCal, bring the kart by the shop and we will get you handled. No charge at all. We are glad to help.
If somewhere else, give me a call and I’ll try to help you over the phone.

Orange,CaStu HaynerParticipantDan,
I believe I stopped at that shop a few months ago. Your are right – a bit disappointing.
I love to see what the other shops are doing to help me get better. I visit 2-3 shops a month, and to be honest, most are pretty close to what you describe.
I’ve been karting for over 30 years, and recently opened our own shop in Orange Ca. There’s a few that are nicer, but we are working to fix that. To be perfectly clean and organized is quite difficult, but we are trying.
I specialize in helping brand new to karting guys, and I have to admit, I do my best to get them to come down and sit in a few karts. It is so much easier when they can touch and feel.
We have brand new Birel and the all new American built iKarts assembled and on display, but also have over 60 used karts to pick from.
I spend over 6 hours a day on the phone – trying to explain this that / differences in karts – flex / engines etc. I’m sorry to say that many of those calls fall on deaf ears.
In most cases, you ARE better off traveling to the shop in person. Once you establish a good relationship, the calls get shorter and the guy on the other end knows he’s not just wasting hours on a guy who’s dead set on only spending $400 on Craig’s List junk.
If ever in SoCal, drop by. I’ll spend any amount of time you need – promise!! I hope you find some beautiful karts and very clean kart shop. If you’d like to see pictures, text me or email me.

Cost is only $20
See you there!!
Stu HaynerParticipantNick,
I have a slightly used set of V2 Sniper lasers that I can sell. They are special “ROTAX” labeled snipers, (which makes them cost twice as much as anything not labeled Rotax).
I believe retail is close to $375 w/o being special “ROTAX” lasers.

Ok… Back to karting. Please look at f100karters.com. This series is there to help new guys get started – advance them as a driver and enjoy karting without being so high pressure. It has produced some great racing and I recommend this series to ANYONE just starting or guys that enjoy karting and just want to have fun.
