    Thanks Samir –

I am going to run the Old Loom for now. I did not want to change too many things on the Kart in the off season. I’ll switch over at some point.

Rain or shine, I’ll be at OVRP tomorrow for First Pratice Day. Hoping to run F-Series at end of month at NJMP.

I’ve not done any back to back testing. I thought I had the latest cylinder, apparently not. For me, motor performs more than fine, thus not spending the huge money to change. When it comes time for my rebuild, if it approaches $2,000 for rebuild + cylinder head, I may consider another motor. As much as I like the Rotax the prices for parts are out of line. Have you priced a radiator or exhaust recently? Prices for those components for other engines are typicialy about 1/3.

On the advice on someone here, I emailed sales@go-rotax.com and they sent me a form. About a month later they sent me an upgrade to the troublesome upgrade. They had my info in their database, not sure if I would of been contacted, so I am glad I reached out.

Not sure if the new bracket will work on my iKart due to interference issues. Won’t know for sure until I get around to installing it. This entire process has been a bit of a challenge. Took a 1/3 of a season to get the kit to work correctly. At least is does seem to make the motor perform better (At least in high Engine RPM Range). Low to mid end, I think it actually hurts, so the net on the stop watch is marginially positive.

Intersting news… Took us a couple months to get EVO Upgrade sorted on our engine. Had to purchase the update to the upgrade kit. Even with their recommended mounting can’t believe components and wires would last long. Inspired by someone on one of the other boards I put go-pro looking backwards towards rear wheel and electronics. You’d be amazed at how much movement there is.

I look forward to seeing details on the new harness. I could not find a way to register or get on MaxSpeed mail list so I sent them a message.

I did find this press update: http://www.rotax-kart.com/en/Community/Newsroom/2015/56-Customer-Information-Update-Rotax-125-MAX-Evo-Engine-Series

Seems like they are directing you to work with local dealer.

Let me rephrase. Every engine as an operating range to balance performance and durability. Assuming one wants to get 50 hrs between rebuilds, what should top limit of RPM be? The EVO upgrade defnatly allows me to pull higher RPM than I was previously. I’d sacrifice a couple tenths in order to avoid prematurely wear the engine or dramaticially increase likley-hood of failure.

It took 1/2 a season, but I got the issue resolved. Although my EVO kit supposably had the upgrade to the upgrade, I ordered one anyway. It was probably a combination of things but mostly vibriation.

    1. My seloniod was hard mounted by shop. I put one rubber isolator on it (Kit only can with one). I also relocated the coil so it bounced around less.
    2. It is possible in some bumpy corners the coil may of been making contact with the seat.
    3. I also put a couple rubber washers between where the bracket mounts to the crank-case. That dampened a little more vibriation.
    4. Added the second crank sensor Gasket (Did not resolve the issue)

I am running without resistrictor pill installed. I found that when I had the pill installed it got sucked about an inch down the black hose and it is a pain to remove. Its a pretty poor design. Intresting in that the dealer said he installed he pill but I could not find it. It has me thinking maybe there already is one stuck in the line.

Running with 2 ground wires connected, it pulls 14,900 RPM. Next time out going to test back to back with one wire verses two.

Also I think 14,900 RPM may be on the high side, I may drop a tooth. Can only help with engine longevity. What are you guys targeting for max RPM?

in reply to: Rotax EVO parts failing? #53973

I took a look at the engine over the weekend. Based on the feedback here, I notices two things:

    1. The PV seloniod was hard mounted with two bolts to the bracket. Not having access to purchase an isolator until I get to the track, I mounted it loosly to the bracket making using a two stacked fawcet washers to create a home made isolator. I used two bolts.

    2. I also noticed that the when hitting a big bump the coil would hit the side of the seat. You can actually see by looking at the coil and the seat where there would be contact. Hanging off the isolators these parts move around allot. The video posted in this thread illistrate that effectively.

Hopefully, these two fixes should address the RPM limiting issue. I won’t be able to hit the track for a couple weeks to test it out.

I think the issue is vibration caused. I looked at the data and notices an intresting trend. When hustling to get a fast lap, it would rev limit at 12,400 down the straight. If I would take it easy during the lap (Let’s say stuck behind slower traffic or I was catching a breather) it would pull all the way to 14,300. At OVRP you need to use the curbs quite a bit, so I think the extra movement and banging during a fast lap overwhelmed the components.

If these adjustments adress the issue great. However I an disappointed at the the experiance and the design. I can’t see the plastic tabs holding these commpnents lasting very long. The coil and hte e-box are fairly heavy. This movement not only stresses the mounting points but also the wires and hoses. In a year, I am sure you’ll hear about these tabs breaking and replacements being needed.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Not been able to get to the track for a few weeks.

To Michael’s point: I did not have the gasket installed. I installed one. It did nto solve the problem. I then installed 2 gaskets and engine would not start so I went back to one gasket. I will check the ring connectors, but I dout it is the issue.

To Nigel: I did not istall the upgrade, the Rotax shop did, I did not get the installation guide. Kart has the new style Electronic power valve assambly so I assume this means it is the upgraded to the Pressure set-up? Is this correct?

To Eric: I am pretty sure all parts are hung off the bracket with rubber isolators. If it is the coil or the Selenoid, or both, I don’t know by memory. I have to see the Engine and take a picture.

In a link in previous post I saw someone shooting video of power valve opening and closing. Maybe I should do the same. At least I can confirm to the shop that cause is the power valve not operating properly.

Thanks for the link. I will read it tonight. We’ve been experinging a problem with our Upgraded Rotax Evo Max were the engine would just rev limit at 12,400 RPM. The more we ran the kart the more often it would occur. If I ran 8 sessions of 10 laps each. First few sessions engine reved to 13,900-14.300 no problems. Later in the day every few laps it would rev limit at 12,400 RPM. For example, mid-day sessions, about half the laps would be rev limited. it would be fine, then not, then fine again. No pattern. By the end of the day, most of the laps would be rev limited. The isse clearly shows itself in the AIM data. Going down the straight the revs flatten out like a table top when the issues occurs. it has been a challange for the shop (Who installed the kit) as the problem is inconsistant. If they take the kart out to test it for a couple laps it may be fine, however if I run mutliple sessions over the course of the day, I have the issue.

Are these parts covered under warrantee? For how long?

in reply to: How's your EVO upgrade experience been? #52090

It’s been a mixed bag so far.

    – It took so long for Rotax to futfill my order that I ended up buying kit from a dealer.

    – As I was pressed for time, I had dealer install it. In hindsight, to better understand the kit, I should of installed it myself.

    – We had Pre-Evo pretty dialed in tuning-wise. We used a Jetting App, and it gave us pretty accurate Plug, Pin and Jet Guidanceidiace. I’ve not found a tool that supports the EVO yet. If anyone is aware of such an application, I’d like to know.

    – First time I took it out, it would not rev past 12,300. It would hit that speed and just stall there. I left Kart with dealer to get sorted. Not how they fixed it (I think it involved installing some valve in the plumbing). Post this fix, engine pulls easily to 13,850.

    – We also changed to 120 main and IW24 plug (SR). However noticed the kart has no pull out of the very slowest corner. Old setup we were about 5500 rpm, new setup is the same rpm in this corner. It almost dies if I apply the throttle, any-way other than super slow. There is something still fundamentally wrong with engine setup. What time I gained with more RPM, I lost with sluggish bottom end. It is not a kart Gearing or setup issue. I drive our second kart with pre-evo, with same gearing and it launches from low RPM like a beast. It could be simple engine tuning, or it could be the EVO Install (Both engines are reasoanbly fresh).

    – Not a huge fan of the Battery Box, Starter Switch.

    – Once I get the engine to perform as it did previoulsy, I am sure I’ll be happier.

    – Dealer had a box-full of defective parts. I know one team who went through 3 Ign Units as they were rev limited as well.

    – I got no documention with the Kit – Anyone Know where I can find the install guide?

    – Is there an operatign manaual or do we just download the one for the EVO?

    – I find very little referance/support material on the nuances with motor.

Samir – Nice meeting you and your son Sat.

You may want to ask Tim on recommended Jetting. He is installing our EVO Upgrade on SR Engine this week. On the SR motor I think he said we’d end up with a 122ish main jet, verses 160 on current setup with 12/82 gearing. Jr motor may be totally different.

I’d consider switching over spare kart from KPV100 to WF or LO206 if there was a class at OVRP. No one showes up on a constant basis with 100cc Air cooled motors, forcing me to go Rotax. Rotax is more speed, cost and comnplexity.

I should be at OVRP Sat with my IKart+Rotax Sr, #27. Just did a front end alignment, looking so see impact. I’ve ordered the Rotax EVO Upgrade Kit, still waiting.

The Rotax Motors run reliabibly, but when you need parts they are costly. I just noticed I have a cracked exhaust and they want $500 for a new replacement. It’s outragous what they can charge.

Started using a jetting app this year, love it as having the jetting, pin or plug wrong can easily cost you a second or more.

Trying to get my SR MAX EVO Upgrade Kit. I do NOT have acess to the Passport (In Trailer), where can I find the S/N on the Max Engine. I sent picture of the Number stamped on the engine just in front of the clutch cover and I am being told that is NOT it.

Thanks in advance for the information. Looking to get this order placed, processed and gettign the upgrade.

I never really understood how NJMP Pratice/Racing worked. With OVRP and ET, you checked their web site and saw days open, what is practice and what is race. I know what the prices are. I know on practice days ET is mostly drivers bringing their own kart. Same for OVRP although you may lose some track time due to arrive and drive/rentals and classes. Still track time is more than enough.

NJMP is 3 hrs away for me, it is a great track, but if I drive that far for practice, hope to get reasonable track time. For most part can only practice on weekends. Wither accurate or not, seems like Arrive/Drive and rentals take presidiance. Hopefully track will be avaialible for racer practice on weekends, will be cost effective….

i just saw the press release as well. Shame they won’t be avaialible from, our local dealers. Supposably Maxspeed has kits available. Printed out the order form tonight. Will submitt it tonight after I take a picture of the crankcase with serial number. Hopefully will have it in a couple weeks.

    Thanks Tom…

I’ll be on the lookout for the press release. It is a shame they don’t offer the parts through the dealers who we have relationships with that support us season in and season out. Maybe the margin is not there at the discounted price?

Hopefully they will have some sort of automated web-e-comm ordering page that makes ordering on-line easy and takes standard forms of payment like Credit Cards or Paypal.

Hope it will be warm enough for us to start hitting the track in the North East by Mid March.
