Yes but you have to use a big silencer and an intake air box.

The other group will be automobiles.
Larry DobbsParticipantMemo is coming home to NCA. We are thinking about you and wish you full recovery!
Larry DobbsParticipantAndy, please tell us what carb, pipe and ignition you were using. Tell us what piston and piston-cylinder wall clearance, head volume, and reeds. How often do you need to change the top end and then the crank? Thanks in advance :)
Larry DobbsParticipantMy idea is to let the European’s beta test the new barrels this year before we make any rule changes here, and that’s because they have more participants than grid spots and can afford to make a mistake, whereas we have just enough participants to break even on paying for the event, so we can’t afford to alienate any of our participants.
Larry DobbsParticipantI have noticed that long track 250 single owners have been ending up on the side of the track too often due to engine failure here in Northern California. It seems we have been running too lean. Is there anyone that could go over the basics as to how to establish a baseline for jetting, a good starting point, and what preparation should be done at home so that when you get to the track you are not overwhelmed. Also, I have noticed that a common sticking point (pun intended) is mid throttle jetting point. Anyone care to give advice?
I realize this is too broad but it is off-season and I could use some help. If we don’t help each other so that we can at least start fininshing some races there won’t be anyone left to race with :)
Larry DobbsParticipantI hand start, impact snug, and then finish by hand tightening. If you start with the impact and cross thread you have to replace the stud. If you finish with the impact and don’t get it tight enough, or too tight and damage the stud and/or wheel you have to replace them. When you do this hold the wheel with your hand this allows you to insure the rim is flat against the hub and you can feel how much torque you are applying. Most important also is not to get distracted before you are finished with all four wheels! Don’t ask me how I know the last one …………O
Larry DobbsParticipantWell done folks! Racers did a good job on track. New workers did a good job on grid and in support roles. Roger still had his voice by the end of the day. All in all it was a good day for almost everyone!
I need to share a few things I heard while I was too busy to be too upset that my race day ended in morning practice. Read this with the attitude that it is just information to reinforce what you already know. Racing with NCK is a privledge. You must follow the club rules in order to provide a safe place to race for everyone. Never drive counter course on the track, which includes the hot pit lane. Never argue with the Race Director on track (you can discuss your view point with him another time). Do not drive your kart in the pits (sometimes we provide an extension of the hot pit lane to get to the scales). How would you feel if you accidentally hit someone’s child? Inconvienent, yes, but someone actually spun his tires leaving a garage to get out for practice! Never stay on the racing line if your kart is experiencing problems. The universal sign that you are not up to speed is to put your hand up. We only race a few times a year don’t expect everyone to be perfect; even Sebastian Vettel makes poor choices sometimes!
Man, I love to drive my kart! March 28th can’t get here soon enough!
Larry DobbsParticipantSunny, 65 degrees, lots of entries, what more can we ask for?!
Larry DobbsParticipantHi Jason,
Sorry to hear about your collar bone. I broke my collar bone and raced 6 weeks later, but that was in a KT100 Yamaha. If you try it and it is too painful, you could always take photos and write some articles on social media. NCK can always use positive exposure to get the word out about roadracing. As you are well aware, it’s darn near impossible to work on your kart, race, and take pictures and write anything about the day. I will have my Gopro on and would be happy to contribute that if you or anybody else is willing to help NCK out.
Larry DobbsParticipantHey Tony, you got your kart done yet?! I provided some seating to a fellow karter, kinda like girls who have skinny jeans in there drawer hoping to fit back into one day?! As far as Martin’s ikart goes, I will be all over it to steal all his secrets, or I could just ask him! As far as weather goes, after this year’s Grand Nationals, I can race in anything! Sunny and 57 is the latest about the same as last year, but I have a bad memory and I never write anything down so I would ask someone else! About this ekarting site, I miss the old forum but the young guys running this thing have a vision . . . See you at the races!
Larry DobbsParticipantThe weather has been upgraded to 56 and sunny:)
Jim White and Doug Gossett came over to get parts to finish up Doug’s gorgeous kart, so come on people get your entries in; that means you too Doug and Jim!!! Karters helping karters! What will they think of next:O
Larry DobbsParticipantWe may not be racing in Austin, TX, but we are racing in Sonoma, CA, and we probably will be next year too IF we race there this year :)
Get your entries in and bring anybody you know with a kart!
Larry DobbsParticipantPartly Sunny Hi 54 says Accu-Weather :) Looks like another gift of wonderful weather!
Get those karts ready and don’t eat too much turkey dinner :O
Jim and Doug are working on Doug’s new kart. Paul Band is trying to help Mike Grajalva get his kart back in shape for this race. Mark M. has his kart ready. Less than 4 weeks to go. Let’s shock the registration volunteer and get our entries in early!!
Larry DobbsParticipantJohn let us know if we can help, i.e., you could leave your trailer at my house, etc., if that would help.
Larry DobbsParticipantVery funny Dean! Jim and Doug are picking up the kart today in WA. Luis says Joshua might come and race too. I haven’t spoken to everyone on the list but I just might!
Who else is coming to this race?
Larry DobbsParticipantNot much chance of me racing in the UK, but the best superkart racing in the US will be at Sonoma November 30th! This is an annual stand alone race where the fastest kart wins. This is club racing at its best in the US. We will have @20 ICE karts (CR250’s and Rotax 257’s). Last year Dean had the fastest lap with his CR250 while Anthony Williams won the race with his Rotax 257.

Larry DobbsParticipantWe are going to have a new 250 racer! Someone bought Brad Davis’ PVP and they are planning to bring it to Sonoma so it is starting to look like we might have around 18 superkarts!
Who’s planning to race Stock Moto?
Is Rus and Martha bringing the laydown 80’s?
Larry DobbsParticipant<span style=”color: #333333; font-family: ‘Georgia’,’serif’; font-size: 10pt;”>It is a privilege to have known George and we are glad that he brought Bret back to share our racing passion with. Maybe you can bring Gino back out Bret? My heartfelt sympathy and prayers for George and his family and friends.</span>
Larry DobbsParticipantFirst to quote Roger Penske about the new Grand Prix of Indianapolis:
“Thinking about history, we’ve gone from 30 days to 10 [with the 500]; we’ve got the Brickyard,” he said. “History, to me, is behind us, and in today’s world you’ve got to take big, bold steps. I think that’s the Speedway has done and the Hulman family has done, and it’s going to make our series a much better series.”
“Big Bold Steps”
National race is a once in a life time “bucket list” event for most of us due to finances. Let’s agree as a nation of kart racers to attend one big race per year and call it the Kart Grand Prix of America. It can be moved each year from region to region. For example, if going to COTA is a bucket list item for you, then you sign up and go, otherwise you wait for the next time the race goes to Austin or another track on your list. Local kart clubs tend to your members locally, but when it is your turn to host the big race, everyone that can afford to will attend your version of the KGPA. etc.
Anybody care to add to this big idea with positive input? This is forum brainstorming!
Larry DobbsParticipantAwesome!
Will fuel and oil be for sale at the track?
Larry DobbsParticipantIt’s gonna snow tomorrow:)
Larry DobbsParticipantDone flailling!
See everyone at the track.
Don’t forget to thank Roger, Rhonda, Dave, Rick and Jim for all their hard work making these races possible:)
Larry DobbsParticipantStill flailling!
