Your best bet is to go out to the track when the SoCal Sprinters are there to understand what you need to get started. They have a race there tomorrow, Saturday, July 12. Clubs are the entry level to the sport. There should be at least one or two kart shops there, and racers are always willing to provide their advice to getting started. The Los Angeles Karting Championship races at the CalSpeed Karting Center. That is more of a regional event, bringing in some more teams and more talented drivers. CalSpeed also has a race series in karts very similar to what you find at the indoor track. Their Super Series races tomorrow, Saturday July 12. Check that out. It’s a lot of guys you just love racing and don’t want to bother owning their own stuff.
David ColeKeymasterWe had just shared his article on our Facebook feed when you made this post. He was at the Simraceway facility in late March. He still has a lot of connection to the sport of karting, and is a great ambassador for the sport.
David ColeKeymasterWelcome Chris to the EKN and karting community. Starting out with indoor karting is a great way to get hooked. Looks like you guys are ready for the next step.
The KartSport North America group at the GoPro Motorplex are among the best people to get you started in competitive karting. They deal the FA Kart and the Arrow kart.
My suggestion is to check out the chassis products they have available, and start off with the LO206 engine. This is very similar to the indoor karting engine, American made, can be raced right out of the box brand new, and is a great speed to get started. Then, if she catches on quickly and wants to move faster, you can advance up into the Rotax engine with the same kart.

David ColeKeymasterYes, you only use the clutch to take off. You can only upshift off the gas, and most of the time you can quickly down shift, if it’s a hard braking corner.
Here is the best American shifterkart driver Gary Carlton driving a KZ kart. The engine has higher RPM then an 80 will, but you will see how he works the gas and hear the sound of the shifting.
