Who won 125?
Chris HegarParticipantIn road race engine size does matter along with the skill and balls of the pilot. Single car times can vary greater from event to event based on track conditions and weather due to how long a road course is vs any shorter sprint track. You might fight hard at the sprint track to find that half second lost with a green track, you might fight hard to find 2 seconds lost on a green road circuit. ICC @385lbs vs stock moto @400 (IKF standard) on a 2+ mile track will usually be about a 1.5 second lap time difference. Throw a big pack of dudes in with either style motor and expect the fast lap time to come from the best drafting person. If you want to really test road times you need the same guy with skill on both motor styles with no draft.
Chris HegarParticipantNick, same rules as last time we ran Laguna. I’d imagine fuel will be a tech item probably sold at the track.

No laydowns for us but we will have cik opens in hand. I have not seen an actual open laydown here out west in at least 15 years. Couple of stock appearing show up from the midwest if we have a national but nothing else 100cc, it’s all 80cc laydown or nothing. We have Ital 100cc motors but they just sit until we refurbish our twin then it’s on!
The track looks great from the video’s I’ve seen and much faster than before. Just hoping we see no rain in the forecast at that time, that would probably be the only thing that might shut down the program from here. Not that were afraid of rain but an older wiser fella says screw that vs the younger dude that didn’t care about wet socks or rusty kart parts. Looking forward to it!

I know some of our old friends still have karts sitting around collecting dust like ours, drag em out dust em off and come play. Were not traveling much anymore so were looking forward to getting off the left coast for this adventure. I don’t know why but my brother has received an officer presented speeding award every time we drive into the great state of Kansas, I’m looking forward to testing that once again.
June 17, 2014 at 2:57 pm in reply to: 2014 KART Enduro National Championships @ HPT Oct. 3 – 5 #29070Chris HegarParticipantPlease add Hegar Manufacturing as a class sponsor for Stock Moto 1. Looking forward to racing open again, it’s been years.
Chris HegarParticipantWe always hear… “remember back in the day when karting was thriving with so many guys on the grid, it was awesome!” Realistically the numbers were always spread out with one or two classes pulling in large numbers from time to time but still always looking for more people to come help make rr the next great thing. No that long ago in 2004 we had nearly 100 karts on grid in cik open 125, what happened? People move on due to economy issues, people move on because of the next best thing, people get tired of running mid pack bad mouth a class or karting in general and quit. Lot’s of excuses for downturn but mainly we tend to have a lack of new runners interested in our sport specifically in our rr end. The sprint runner is now our target market and has been for a long time but sprinting has turned into an ultra expensive program just to get your foot in the door. Yes we see the old Yamaha drug out with friends now days but that’s not what your going to hear about that type of ride if you walk into a shop with your wallet, nope. Pretty much the only thing we can do is keep our heads down staying dedicated to rr karting, talk it up whenever possible and help out each other while keeping an eye out for new possible racers. That’s what I see and think I’m reading here, if we don’t gain more people rr is doomed because they will keep charging more for pavement weather it’s an international circuit or park side temp track, they all want top dollar.
Chris HegarParticipantWe out.
Chris HegarParticipantWhat gas were you using for testing Ian?
Chris HegarParticipantUnfortunately it takes a track with major draw at the right time of the year to even think of pulling in numbers from everywhere. Indy, Road America, COTA and Laguna to me are the only places that can do what needs to be done for one event. Mid Ohio, Road Atlanta, Thunderhill, Infenion, Heartland Park, Daytona, The Ridge, Barber, your favorite, ect are all great places but it’s gotta be brand new awesome or a track with serious racing history. People in general really don’t travel much farther than 10 hours, it’s gotta be good. The average racer just won’t do it.
Chris HegarParticipantMr Anderson has replied and I think him for the wonderful quote. I like new, over the curbs through the bails I like to know where my ride has been.
Chris HegarParticipantDude your hosed… eat the gears. I doubt a judge would find in your favor, who’s to say they were not good the day you bought them, you can’t. Did they get rounded off riding around in your tool box? Then the judge is gonna say “prove it sir.” Don’t waste your time.
Chris HegarParticipantI like freckles. ;-)
Chris HegarParticipantIn karting and with women it’s what have you done for me lately? Well what have you done for me lately Mr CR chassis?
Chris HegarParticipantUnknown to me… bitch lips.
Chris HegarParticipantThis has been fun, you guys are as nutty here as you are riding 100hp. I’m not sure my pilot is going to go Superkart direction for certain but I like to be in the know if anything is needed. For me I’d probably look at the unknown from CR just to be different unless one of these Anderson hot rods was found closer to home in race ready condition or a nice unit like Dean Martin is selling. I did send Anderson a price quote request through there site and got no response, they are probably busy I guess.
Chris HegarParticipantFront brakes in tag are not required in IKF rr but they are recommended. I’m going by memory but I think that’s correct. We run karts with and without together without problems. I prefer with but that’s me.
Chris HegarParticipant+1 Lyle
Chris HegarParticipantIMO, here’s the way I look at it. Each year did we gain 5 new runners that we never had before while maintaining the runners from last year? 5 is my guess to offset rising cost and I know that’s not nearly enough but looking around the drivers meeting 5 is the best I think we can hope for. If your club isn’t seeing at least that many new racers your in the same trouble as every other rr club or will be soon.
Not stepping on KART with my listing of 14 runners Austin but the KART site shows every race and all the runners in those races for 2013 to date. You have about 213 total entry’s in all classes for all season and that’s not counting each name to see how many times it’s listed in more than one class or guys that only went to 1 event, that’s everybody. I’d imagine it’s about 80 names registered total that push the program consistently. 80 is almost exactly what we have here in bodies so were pretty close to the same as far as trucks in the pits. You may not now but you will be in search of racers at some point. Natural tracks are cool and your lucky to have them but pavement gets rough and needs $ to get fixed that’s when the $ rises.
IKF rr has done what the racers asks as far as I know for rules. Can I ask what recent rules made you dislike or the IKF runners in general dislike for rr? I’m on the IKF rr committee and have not seen any requests or changes to our rules in years. I will pass on your request to the board.
Numbers in IKF rr have lots to contend with. SKUSA in Cali, nice sprint programs here in the NW and the dark side of karting no ones thinks about…. dirt. Dirt is growing and it’s cheap in comparison to rr if your looking for fun with your buds. Yes you can piss it away if you try real hard but dirt is very affordable and you can buy it all ready to go if you know where to go.
I forgot to add, if anyone with anything shows up at the rr track we will always accommodate those runners, we never turn down a kart unless it is unsafe. You wanna run Briggs 2 stroke banana pipe ball bearing muffler Senior over 75 @650lbs class just offer up a few and we will see if it can be added to the roster. Yea were that desperate to draw in people, it’s ugly round here.
Chris HegarParticipantI find it amusing when people make these posts and leave out KART. Road Racing in KART it doing quite well.
KART needs help as well. Looking at the 2013 points totals to date the largest class all year was Briggs Animal Sportsman with 14 in class at Lake Afton, 14’s not killing it by any means. Probably paying the bills and coming out a little ahead but it won’t be long and track rental fees will rise hurting the program. Tracks are starting to look at not just rental but how much fuel they can sell to groups. In other words they want to sell you the track plus 500 gallons of gas to your runners which is easy with big cars but us we don’t do much in that area. Better track days will go to clubs that rent and burn. It’s a tough situation.
I can see the US moving to 3 or 4 events a year in each region hoping to draw those of us left and going the extra mile to attract the sprint side as a new thing. The only other hope is that a group like SKUSA finds a reason to throw in a big track race which I doubt would happen. I don’t know if the old IKF or WKA label helps sell races anymore, sometimes it’s better to relabel and push it off as a new program.
Chris HegarParticipantOh no I did something again didn’t I… I’m sorry for what I did and whatever I might do next. ;-)
Chris HegarParticipantWe have no issue with adding LOCAL OPTION classes as long as it doesn’t create to many reaces per day (No 8+ races a day for sure, been there done that – sucks). YOU give me class names, rules, sponsorship and make sure that there are entries other then our regulars (including yourself) I AM IN!!!
Offering the same exact class later in the day just like many rr events do would be my professional recommendation. You have 1 dozen open motor shifters in Sprint 125 Shifter per the information given, offer the same rules package later in the day on both days. 4 X the fun. Or offer the SPRINT STOCK HONDA class as the second set of classes to run, I’d choose IKF/WKA rules over SKUSA for that class.
You want me to confirm YOUR entries? Sure I can do that as soon as YOU confirm I have a winning lottery ticket. Offering events are like running a race, sometimes you suck and fail and sometimes you hit the jackpot taking gold. Only guarantee is if you don’t try you’ll never know. Offer the classes see what happens. Just run the class with another group don’t add any other races.
As for 80 shifters, we don’t have but a few 80′s here in our area and 2 only wanted to run 1 day and the other went to the Open & A-limited classes so they had people to race against.
Understood, I was only thinking 80 if it was a large following.
Off the top of my head (ouch), as far as NATIONAL LEVEL classes, I believe probably the only one I can think of is a SPRINT STOCK HONDA class KART does not have that would be a good class to add. YOU must remember, LAYDOWNS are still a big thing back here in our area. ALSO, with the economy, very few people can afford to race more then once per day.
Laydowns are great, I love the laydown but they are all but extinct where I am and what your after is attracting guys like me from far away to your event with whatever I have in the tailor. No classes for me or not enough classes and I won’t spend the thousands of dollars to get to your race. Are you certain laydowns in your area are the BIG THING because your limiting your runners to that combination with these classes? Extra costs for racing more than once per day are minimal unless your blowing up stuff. USKGP, IKF, all run second classes later in the day if you like. In stock moto your looking at a tank of fuel, 2 tear offs and killing off a set of tires you ran earlier in the day.Stock moto has it’s plus, it runs and runs and runs no problems.
Stock moto here had 2 the first year then 6 the second, now it’s the monster that keeps rr karting alive in the west. Main thing is you gotta keep the door open while things grow. I have a feeling if I plan for stock moto at your race I can draw runners to the class for you but your not looking at a 100 kart grid your probably talking 10 or so the first time around.
As for 125 shifters, thinking about a dozen or so. all are quick!!!
I know they are quick, we would like to run with them. Not many left in Open across this fine country, we go where they are when we can.
As for our Unlimited and the Superkart classes. I had talked to everyone who is/has ran our Unlimited class before putting the schedule together. 1st, we added a L.O. Sat Unlimited due to the B-Stocker group from the East are coming and IF any others who can run this class did show, they had 2 places to race. 2nd, The few Unlimited racers (250 gearbox) we have, want to race with the Superkarts and the Superkarts only want to run with the Superkarts so there is no crossover anyway.
I’m not gonna argue, it’s your rodeo.
Did I answer questions??
I think you did but I DON”T see the NEED for all the CAPS. I get your points.
Chris HegarParticipantThat worked, thanks Jeff. I had to go to your history to see your post then followed your directions to get here. I highly doubt many are going to see this but hey others might be used to this thing.
Linda thanks for the response. I’ve also been a part of many schedules for karting from local races to nationals. IMO I’d still separate Unlimited away from USSK just in case one of them decides to run both or a guy just needs a few practice laps to prep for the other. After all it looks like it’s a one time all you can race fee same as we do here. If a guy runs he burns fuel, parts, tires, ect which all equals $ from sales back into karting and clubs in addition to individual fun from driving. We all go for it if the option is there once were at a track. I’d imagine it’s no big deal to move Unlimited in with something like 125 middle of the day.
I also see only one place to run a tag motor that isn’t a Leopard, why? How is that going to attract runners? 1 day racing Friday on your Fireball and your going home, dude you gotta give more options. I can see trying to keep class numbers limited but your offering the classes anyway so give a guy 3 try’s at a trophy in 3 days. Sprint tag senior Fri, Sat & Sun will draw more runners and make the ones you already have happier.
Chris HegarParticipantWow ok this forum is freaking out… notice the date I just posted is inserted above older posts. Rock on EKN.
Chris HegarParticipantSo.. I can’t get to the second page here to see Linda’s response due to how slick this new EKN forum is. Does anyone else have this problem with this site?
