It was an excellent event! A big thanks to everyone that made it happen. Really cool track, with ZERO bumps. Looking forward to this one in 2016.

In WKA and KART helmet cameras are allowed. Drilling holes in your helmet to mount a camera? Really, really bad idea. I’ve had a Contour helmet cam since they came out and yes, I’ve lost one. I tried to re-use the adhesive pad, and it cost me a camera. Other than that, if properly applied they stay on just fine.
Banning them seems kinda silly, just alienating more people.

Nicely done, but if you have an “off” and bounce up and come down on it, I see pain.

It’s not anything I ever want to see again. Tucking a ponytail down the back of a jacket is NOT adequate. The accident at an Enid, Ok. race was due to a ponytail working it’s way back up out of a jacket. The KART rulebook suggests a hooded t-shirt, and it’s a very good solution. Most folks I’ve seen with them cut them off just below the arms so it’s not too hot. No way your ponytail is getting anywhere near the axle if you are wearing that.

You really did a good job of clutching it and keeping it running through all those!

Bummer to hear this. David was one of those guys that’s always there, and he would always come by and say hi. RIP David.

I’ve raced at Afton since 1980. Think about it this way, if you look at Daytona, Road America, Road Atlanta, Topeka, etc., you’ll notice they all have walls around much of the track. If you look at Afton and Garnett, you’ll see some trees and other obstacles here and there. When someone asks me how I can race at one of these places with all the trees and stuff all around the track, It’s a very easy answer. If I go off at a track with a wall, I am not going to miss that wall, period. End of discussion. If I go off at Afton or Garnett, I have a pretty decent chance of missing a tree.
Afton actually has a pretty good safety record. I feel pretty safe there. BTW, I do see 133mph at the end of the back straight.

I personally don’t like to see mirrors on a kart. Generally, the driver spends too much time watching them. With a large overtake speed in a different class, I just don’t want a driver trying to anticipate which side I’m going to pass them on.

Jeff Metter turned a 2:02.6 with his GasGas, Miller went 2:02.4 with his CR. Looks like at Daytona anyway, it just doesn’t matter.

IMO, Unlimited needs to be one class 300cc max. Different weights for different motor packages maybe. There is simply not enough entries to break it up vey much. The broad mix of karts is one of the cool things about Unlimited anyway. Good engineering and mechanical prep is going to finish in the top 5 most of the time anyway. No need to get rolling with the “you can’t run that here”.

Gas Gas engines have been allowed in WKA Unlimited for years. Jeff Metter has ran his with us many times.

From what I hear Bootes moved back to Oklahoma, but I don’t have any other info. Ron Miller is another that have ran the Rotax there. I think he’s here on ekn sometimes.

Yup, Noah got it DONE at Mid-O. Very impressive.
FWIW, I feel like a sprag frees up the kart and makes it go thru the corners easier. I think I’d have a hard time converting back to driving without a sprag. Ya just gotta drive it like a clutch kart that you are mad at.

Robert and Jeremy, you guys got great video of me totally dorking up the infield for several laps until I started to get it figured out. Here’s my rear-facing video.

Big Thanks to MKC and everyone involved putting on MIS this past weekend, it was a great event!! If you weren’t there you missed a fantastic facility and good racing.

Robert and Jeremy it was great racing with you guys, and as Robert says hilarious too. Good clean racing with you guys. I don’t think in the first five laps I ever hit the same place on the track twice! You guys pushed me to get it figured out quick.

It was great meeting all the new folks, everyone was just super friendly. The ONLY thing I would change is to move the inside cones more inside to make the transition to the oval a little better.
