Thanks for all the help guys….. Went out for some seat time over the weekend and he got to follow behind a really experienced driver. The kart looked really good and he ran his fastest times yet. The front is what’s pushing a little so I’ll be widening the rear little bits until it balances out.

It’s a 102 chassis which is in between a cadet and full. Seems like I have been confusing too much rear grip for the front. Would you say that if he is still trying to turn the steering wheel after the apex that the kart is pushing and not enough front grip?

It’s our junior sportsman class with a kt100 3 hole can. After looking at it closer it looks like he was not slowing down enough and floating the kart into a big fast turn at the track. So maybe he’s just not setting the kart properly at the beginning? He’s not very big only weighing 75lbs for a 300 lb class. Had to add a lot of weight to the kart that’s why we made sure to scale it.

Thanx for the info, right now the seat sits mid rail and the rear axle is all the way down. Ran new tires this weekend and that helped but he says it still feels like it wants to slide out. I’m looking for a good baseline measurement and I know manufactures have guides for this but top karts website doesn’t have a set up for the mid size chassis. Any suggestions are helpful.

Only thing changed was the motor. Fresh top end lots of compression 1% leak down. Your saying it make take a bit for the ring to seat before it comes up to where it should be?

Thanx Freddy. That’s a good thought but when he’s consistently running low 32’s and even a 31 last race and now he can’t bring down below a 33.5 all of a sudden with a motor change I don’t believe it’s in his driving. Something’s up lookin at the mychron when it hits 9000 it still climbs, it never tops out, but is slow to get to 11650. Hopefully a different carb or going up a tooth will help get us thru this race.

It’s that time again at The Bakersfield Kart Raceway!!!!!! Come out this Saturday 9-12-15 for some excellent kart racing. Bring everyone and help support Kern County’s local kart racers.

Yes the carb settings are the same and nothing has changed on the pedal movement. I hear these motors are temperamental and just won’t run right if they are not built right. I’ll try another carb and if that doesn’t help, it’s going to the dyno shop.

Thanx for the replies. I pulled off the carb to clean and kit it and noticed that the idle screw was turned in some not allowing the butterfly valve to close fully. Could that be a possibility?

Everyone I’ve talked to say to lower my axle gear, would this help? The rpms I list were at the end of the longest straight.

Okay, went out today and the kart looked great! Moved the font width out to 39.5″ took the toe out in a hair and lowered the rear tires 1psi and he was cookin around the track. I guess it’s all about seat time now.

We race in Bakersfield CA at the Bakersfield Kart Raceway. It’s local club racing no sanctioned racing but maybe soon, just having fun right now. Haven’t got to try the set up yet. Caster is maxed, maybe it’s just more seat time. I’ll update

Okay got the kart pulled into 46″ in the rear and 39″ in the front. Worked great he dropped a full sec on his lap time. It seems the kart is pushing out of the turn some now and he’s having to input a lot more steering. What do you think? It needs more front grip? Widen out the front track? Lower front spindles?

Gary, yes it’s a late 90’s INVADER cadet kart that we rebuilt with proper ackerman steering and put in a softer wider 1-1/4″ rear axle. We run the small tires front and back 10×4.5×5? Anyway these chassis are very stiff so getting them loosened up is a challenge. Lol
