I’ve worn Simpson, Bell and never had issues. Even the ones with smaller eye ports. For me, I had to try the helmet on unfortunately to see as each pair of glasses fits differently. Mine were RX of course ,but more of a wrap-around kind.

We recently expanded our track at Hill Country Kart Club in New Braunfels, Texas, about 20 mins from San Antonio and 1.25 hrs from Austin. Chuck, I think that 2008 was the last year the Suzuka was made? I know they didn’t make it in 2010 – so you might want to verify that…Suzukas are like poodles – people either love them or hate them. They were a stiff chassis and had a few points on them that people didn’t like. That being said – depending on what you want to use it for it might be great. There is a doc that a guy produced on setting them up that is the bible of them. I can send it to you if you PM me. I had one with a Clone/Chonda on it and it worked really well on longer tracks. I got the chassis very inexpensively so it was worth it. I would say though that its a limited resale market on them so don’t overpay on the chassis – no matter what shape its in.

Also, I would go to the eknclassic forum and do a search on Suzukas. There is a thread or two on them that will tell you all you want to know.

Dimitri, I come from the car racing world where radios are everywhere and helpful given the size of the track, the distance from the track of the crew and spotting.

I certainly agree that radios can be distracting and not as useful as one might think because you can’t use them at most kart races.

However, what I like about them is that they can provide immediate feedback for the driver and are great as a coaching tool. When I can tell my driver at the point on the track I need to coach that he needs to come wider, go in deeper and then tell him when he’s out of the corner whether it was good or not – I think its worth it. To me it accelerates the learning and also reduced “wasted” laps on the track.

The trick though is that if you use it too much – they can become dependent on it. So its a balance. Each kid is different and you have to judge for each of them individually in my opinion.

Oh, I also only have a radio that my driver can listen but can’t talk back (that’s good for more than one reason LOL).

John, you will find LOTS of opinions on this topic. Even in the MX world (I did that as well) you will find tons of differing opinions, even on the Leatt itself in spite of the testing they have done and shown. No easy answer here. Body shape, seat position, kart, etc. all affect how they fit as well which would affect performance.

We use the foam just for help with fatigue of the neck. My son used the Leatt in MX without fail or problem, but we can’t get him comfortable with it in a kart. Have looked at the others, but PERSONALLY, would prefer the Leatt or are looking at the Vahalla, which seems to have the best coverage as compared to the others.

That being said, all experience and advice here is anecdotal. Without testing, hard to say what works. Even though Leatt has done lots of testing, its more on the MX side.

I had also heard that HANS was making a karting one in an article in one of the magazines, but haven’t seen it come to fruition.
