Thank you Matt, I find the topic search feature here a bit fumbly at times. Good info on the squish info in that post as well. I’ve already made that adjustment with the gasket set. The piston I have is in fact the same as the picture you posted and the ring gap is indeed directly in line with the port. Also, rummaging thru my leftovers, I found a Vertex RS piston that also had the ring gap in the same location as the 2005 Honda OE. (it was seized in the piston of course, I hope that’s not a bad omen) However, all of the HRS all have the ring gap placed at 7 o’clock in the bridge. We’ll run the 05 piston and see how it works.

Geez, what happened to ekarting forums? 8 years ago, there would have been 10 different responses, and 30 ensuing arguments….Seriously, NOBODY else has run into this same issue?

I just did a rebuild on a friend’s Yamaha rookie motor. Parts cost was under $200 with a few carb rebuild kits etc. The crank was among the straightest I’ve seen (less than .0005″ on each side) and the lower rod bearing had virtually zero play so we didn’t separate the crank. We did new main bearings, seals, cylinder hone and top end, along with measuring /checking to be sure the port timing and cc’s matched the engine builder’s specs. In all, it took about 5 hours labor. Still a pretty cost effective engine package in my opinion.

I wrote this article several years ago for a magazine and recently found it floating around on the web. Written specifically with kart seats in mind, but also provides general info about composite construction techniques applicable to any industry.

Yes, always starts easy on the stand. I believe the problem is we cant get the kart rolling fast enough to get the engine to fire easily when its setup as a direct drive.

Nevermind- I got it, the part number <span style=”color: #000000; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold; line-height: normal;”>96001-06095-07 </span><span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”>works as a Honda OEM number. Cool, thanks Chris. </span>

The link you have for the 95mm long bolt- it didn’t translate on my end here. Can you try again or PM me please? The motor is ready to go back together except for that bolt.
