I just went through this with my kart. I was getting a false neutral in 5th gear and the motor would zing and not put down power. There are two different main shafts for the different years of a cr125, I thought I had the wrong one but this wasn’t the case. If you search this site for “5th” and the old ekarting news forum you can find the part numbers. Take a closer look at your gears again, I thought mine looked pretty good but they were indeed rounded on the dogs. It was expensive to fix but no issues with the new pieces installed. Personally, I think there is too much gear play on the secondary shaft and thought about adding a shim to help hold it in gear but decided against that. Check that there is a lot of space for the shift rod next to your seat too, I saw marks on my seat and it was flexing in fast lefts and pushing on the shift rod while on power (bad).

Honda makes a recommended trans oil that is available at most Honda powersports dealers. http://www.extremegokarts.com/honda-hp-trans-oil-p-1121.html?cPath=4_3_30
I’ve run Motul trans fluid without much noticable difference.
Two things though:
1. The clutch cable should have a bit of slack in it since most kart handles can pull the cable too far and the plates of the clutch can be pushed out of the basket. Ask me how I know, kerblamo. I adjust it so when the handle is fully squeezed the plates have just barely disengaged.
2. Use the stock springs, I think the rules even say the clutch has to be stock. Make sute the revs are staying up, I try to slip the tires more than the clutch when possible. Stand on the gas and let the clutch out over half a second or less.

My pumps are as high as they’ll go on the seat. Ran it this weekend with no issues. lumbered around in 3rd gear video taping my son, let a newbie drive it for a while and didn’t foul up the plug. Never have had an issue flooding the crankcase ever. If you want a picture of the setup let me know.

Sounds to me like your return pump can’t keep up or is pumping the wrong way. Did you rebuild it with new diaphragms and seals? Can you swap the two?
Pumps should be higher than the pulse line if possible so any oil can drain back to tank but honestly I’ve seen all scenarios work. High fuel levels can cause issues too.

pwm has an idle adjust built into the choke knob. Turn all the way open to start and dial back to warm up. Just remember to close all the way before driving so the engine doesn’t actually idle. It makes shifting easier if there is no motor load in the trans.

things to check… The pulse line and the pumps themselves can fill up with oil and you may have not enough fuel. You should see almost a constant stream of fuel coming out of the carb and a constant stream in. Fuel filters, plugged jets and at least two vents are next. Which carb? Pwm or pwk? My pump around works well and usually start my kart by spinning the rear tire by hand.
