      I started off with an eBay special. After all the agro, I added up all the money I had put into making the kart right and found I could have ended up with a real decent package if I had saved up and looked around properly.

      Moral of the story- a decent kart doesn’t come cheap.

      The odd decent kart does occasionally find it’s way onto eBay. You will know the difference between a decent package and an eBay special as the asking price will be considerably different. A retirement sale is always good as you can often pick up lots of spares. Just be careful with the age of the frame with 125’s, the steel hardens over time.

      Have you checked the classifieds on this site? Over in the UK we have ‘superkart.org.uk’ if there is anything worth buying in the UK that’s the best place to start.

      I can understand how emissions and efficiency can be improved massively with this technology but I’m struggling to understand how output can be improved to such a degree over a properly jetted carb. Maybe 5/10% but 20% ?????

      Maybe where the maps can be programmed a lot more effectively with fly by wire EFi you can just peak every last bit of performance out of the top end to give good readings on a dyno.

      Anyway, it would be lovely to see two stroke GP bikes hitting the track again one day :)

      Thanks for the replies,

      I have decided to sell the older chassis on and go with the more rigid 2012 frame. Need money to put towards building the new frame up and it seems silly to have two chassis on the go.

      I wonder if the older 32mm frame would have worked well with 125 gearbox on long circuit? (if you could keep the weight down)

      I like the idea of having extra support from the seat to the axle, may just try this in the future :) would this also transfer more weight onto the rear tires under load?

      An adjustable wishbone across the rear of the kart is what you need :D

      thanks,

      mark

      only ever driven a kart in the rain once. next time i will definitely not be wearing slicks…..

      the ‘magic’ was returning to the pits in one piece.

      my friend kept saying “why didnt you turn into the corners, you weren’t turning in!??”, needless to say the discussion got a little heated.

      complete newbie to owning a kart and i can honestly say that there is far too much maths and theory involved in this topic.

      the way that i see it, there is no set rule for entering a corner, all corners are different and require different driving lines and rules.

      for instance, a hairpin leading on to a straight i would brake hard, deep into the outside of the corner, turn sharp and accelerate hard. ‘hard in, hard out’

      alternatively an ‘s’ bend would require a more constant speed, dabbing the brakes softly and floating the accelerator pedal gently through the corner. ‘easy in, easy out’ ???

      if the numbers are slightly worn down you could be mistaking the 6 for a 9??

      in which case the motor would have 1998 crankcase.

      don’t take my word for it however.

      first two numbers in the engine code.

      62 = 2000

      63 = 2001

      64 = 2002

      65 = 2003………. and so on. (I THINK)

      Ta,

      I seem to pester Mr Harrison every time something is up with my motor. Don’t want to be a nag.

      I have found that the 2004 chassis does understeer on first gear corners and I find myself trying very hard to get the back end around. Although on faster corners the rear is stuck to the ground which Is great but when I push hard it hops around like hell. Maybe a sign of too much rear grip??

      Quite new to karting so please bare with me if I sound like I’m talking rubbish

      ………..and before anyone says it, yes my garage is a complete mess at the moment. My entire vans contents have been emptied all over the floor :)
