What makes TaG a lot more expensive than yamaha? Besides initial buy in costs (Serious question, im new to TaG)

Im considering buying a lightly used TaG kart to go racing at local clubs, hoping to not break the bank besides intial buy in costs

So do the front runners in TaG classes modify the engines? Ive looked around on the forum and cant find a definite answer. I remember a time when shops would port the head then acid dip it to give it an unported look lol.

IDK if this adds to the discussion at all, but back in ’01 we only had sidepods, no nose cone and the rear bumper didnt cover the rear tires. One race we had a rookie join us,on the 2nd heat I pass the finish line and slow because the race is over, his front tires touch my rear tires and his kart launches up onto mine and basically lands on my head and shoulder and was stuck there. The last heat were going into the last turn and he brakes  way too soon, and my front tires touch his rears, my kart launches like 8 feet in the air and cartwheels away, while i land on the track, and that was the end of my first go kart.

Thanks for the info sir, already very helpful. Looks like USPKS is local enough and a good goal to shoot for!

I am aware of some general setup guidelines to follow, such as track width in dry vs track width in rain, swapping axles and gears depending on the track, but what about alignment? I do my own alignments on my track cars so Im educated in vehicle setup. I would assume get as much negative camber as you can while keeping the whole tire contact patch on the ground, with toe straight.  Would love any tips on that. Anything else about kart setup I should be aware of?
